Taking the stylus, Leah signed where she needed to and offered the stylus back. “I don’t think it’s so much a hurry as Dr. Kreed being rather efficient. Besides we know each other and he knows I will see him promptly when I’m able.”
“Please led on, I’m excited to see my new home,” the short woman said, rolling from her toes to her heels and back. Her muscular body was compact and she walked to strong strides used to moving quickly from place to place, but she quickly fell into stride with the yeoman.
Rand led her out of the transporter room and toward a turbolift. She stepped on the lift, twisted a handle, “Deck 8,” and the lift took off.
Leah had fallen behind slightly for a moment, walking backward and turning in a circle, just taking the whole ship in. Transporter rooms were one thing, but the ship was another. There was almost something tangible she could feel about the place that was distinct from working on Earth. She had joined Rand with a slightly shepish smile.
Rand didn’t mind, she understood the awe Sentinle inspired and she slowed to allow her to catch up.
“So hoe long have you been on the Sentinel?” she asked.

Oh dear she was the chatty type. Rand smiled at her though, “Two and half years, almost 3. I’ve been on board since she was christened.” Lift stopped to let on a pair of security officers who then got off on the next deck.

“When I joined Starfleet, I never expected to be on a ship. Maybe if I had stayed in a more general nursing practice, but my specialty is usually only needed in specific areas. But it’ll be nice to go back to other ares while I’m here as well.” Leah rocked a little on her toes, dispersing the slightly nervous energy.

Should she say she knew why she was here? What her specialty was? Well she probably already knew Rand knew. Her application had been sent directly to Rand. It would be okay to talk about her brother though. “My brother is also a psychologist. He served on board for just at two years, but he took a transfer and promotion. He is very much an advocate for having counselors on board.”
Leah touched her lips and lifted her fingers. “Your words to the brass’ ears. I firmly believe that we shouldn’t be waiting till people are at the breakdown stage to be dealing with their challenges. If I can help people avoid that while I’m here, then I will consider my work successful.”
The lift stopped and they stepped onto deck 8. “You will have a private room. Quarters are on the fore section and the gymnasium is aft. It has almost everything. Anything it doesn’t, let me know and we will try to get it.” She stopped outside a room and hit the controls. “This is you.”
Yeoman Rand
She gave Rand a small smile and pressed the key to open the door. Leah stepped in and surveyed the space. It was smaller than her apartment in San Francisco by quite a bit but she knew with a few touches she could make it feel cozy. She turned back and looked at Rand as she set her duffle on the single bed. “I’m sure it’ll be just fine.” This new assignment came with a whole whack of changes and part of the adjustment would be recognizing those changes and finding alternative ways of doing things.
“Tour now? Or I can come by later after I’ve seen Dr. Kreed?”

“Any time you’re ready. Just activate a comm box and unless I’m with the captain, we can finish.” She stepped out of the door way, “I’ll take you to sickbay. Your crates should be in here by the time you get back.”
Yeoman Rand
“Rand?” Leah asked, stepping back towards the woman.
“What’s the protocol around here with meeting the captain. On some assignments, it’s expected. Others don’t want to be bothered. But I’m from a hospital setting where my commanding officer was on the floor with us as Chief of Staff and the people we rarely met were the upper bureaucrats. I just don’t want to commit a faux pas on my first day if I can help it,” she said with an easy grin.
