Rand didn’t remind Roman of her medical appointment. No need to actress him out more. Save that for his psych eval. Rand didn’t really mind doctors. It was just she worried about what they might tell her. And she was nervous around people. She did okay with basic check-ups and hypo refills. She got really scared if she had to stay over night.Doctor - patient interactions were very formal though so that helped. Except she didn’t know Dr. Kreed and he had certainly given himself a reputation in four days. She worried over what he thought of her medical file and her recovery. That he might send her off Sentinel or worse.
She had worked herself into a state by the time she entered sickbay and checked in with the nurse. She sat down to wait and focused on breathing to calm down.
Yeoman Rand
It yook a few minutes, but then a voice said “Yeoman Rand? This way please.” The speaker was a reptilian humanoid… the new CMO. He directed her to a biobed and said “I am Dr. Kreed, the new CMO, and I will be conducting your physical today. Now, please get on the biobed and lay back and try to relax.”
Kreed, CMO
The Yeoman was impeccable. Even after a long day, her uniform was clean, crisp, her boots shined. Her hair, braided and pinned up, had not one strand out of place.
She stood, hands clasped behind her back and followed him to the biobed. “It’s nice to meet you, Dr. Kreed,” she said as she laid back on the biobed. She focused on a spot on the ceiling and reminded herself this was just routine and her last physical had been fine. She had nothing to worry about. She worried anyway.
Yeoman Rand
After a few brief moments, the CMO said “Yeoman, are you under any undue stress at the moment? Your vital signs are just outside of the normal range and are a bit too high.”
Kreed, CMO
She twisted her fingers together, and reminded herself it was okay to be truthful with a doctor. He already could tell she was nervous. She sighed heavily. “No, no undue stress. I’m just nervous. This always happens when I’m nervous.” She said quietly. “There is a nite about it in my chart.”

Kreed reviewed the record again and nodded. “Alright.” He drew the privacy screen around them and then set his notes aside and looked at her.
“Listen to me very carefully, Ensign.” He soad calmly but firmly. “I do not know what you have been told about takotsubo syndrome, or stress cardiomyopathy, or broken heart syndrome, or whatever anyone else calls it; but you have fully recovered from that. It is a temporary issue, and your body healed itself just fine. As to your previous injuries… we will start with the concussion.” He picked up the scanner and ran it around her head while looking at the viewer. “I see no cause for concern. The damage was temporary and there seems to be no residual, permanent damage. As to the amnesia and disorientation… I can see no signs of the injury. None.” He set the scanner aside and said “I would be very surprised if you had anymore episodes. I will say I am not impressed by the care this crew has received in the past; and that trend will no longer be the norm.”
He continued to monitor her vitals and do a full body scan, made a few notes, and then set the notes aside again. “How are the anxiety meds working out for you? Do you find them helpful? Any unwanted side-effects? Do we need to discuss changing the approach at all?”
Kreed, CMO
Rand knew she had healed from it. The doctors she’d seen had been amazing, and she would never have made it into service if she hadn’t. But she also knew that it was caused by stress. Emotional stress putting too much physical strain on the body and the heart couldn’t handle it. With her anxiety she was always afraid it would happen again. That’s why she loved Star Fleet and did so well. Everything was regimented and there were expectations and protocols for everything. She knew exactly what and how to do something. Her life was much less stressful now.
His reassurance settled most of her nerves and he was very direct. Rand liked that because she didn’t have to guess at what he meant. She took a slow breath and relaxed. “Umm… I haven’t had to use it since a month or so after I boarded the Sentinel.” She paused, “Oh no that’s not right. When I was injured from the blast … I had a few attacks because of the amnesia and I got really confused. Ro… Cmdr Alden insisted I use them to help.” She shook her head, “Mostly they just make me tired.”

Kreed nodded once and made a few notes. “I am going to change your prescription to something a bit different. The new prescription, sydexthropin, is a low dose, but continuous anxiety inhibitor with no side effects.” He looked up at her and said “It will take a week to get full strength in your system, so int that time frame you may actually feel more anxious. That is normal and it will pass. Once the medicine has a consistent level in your system, it will even out the anxiety. It’s not a suppressant. Those tend to have side effects like fatigue and nausea and such. Those are for patients with severe panic attacks that occur almost non-stop. This will lower the amount of anxiety-inducing chemicals, epinephrine and norepinephrine, your body produces on its own. It also eases the production of dopamine and melatonin. You will probably find it easier to fall and stay asleep.” He looked back down, made the changes in her record, and the looked up, his black eyes staring at her unblinking. “Any further questions or concerns?”
Kreed, CMO
Rand blinked. That was all? Questions? She should have them. “You said there are no side effects, but are there any side effects that indicate a bad reaction that I should tell you about?”
Yeoman Rand
Kreed though for a moment, looked at her record, and then said “There is nothing that I can see that would trigger an adverse reaction of any kind. You have no allergies to medications and the chemical make up of the new medicine is extremely similar to your current medication; just in different quantities. You will need to stop using the old medication altogether immediately. Bring the emergency hypo here for disposal. Other than that? I can think of nothing that would trigger a histemic reaction. You will be fine after the compound is built up in your system. Just give it a week. If you feel like you need something else in that time, come in.” He looked at the file, marked it, and then said “You are fully fit for duty, Yeoman. Will there be anything else I can help you with today?”
Kreed, CMO
She sat up and grabbed her large bulky PaDD and opened the storage compartment and pulled out the hypo. “It doesn’t work if I don’t have it with me when I need it. Do I take the new one in the morning or at night, and when do I start it?”
Yeoman Rand
“Pick up the jar at the front desk. It’s a pill, small. It doesn’t matter when you take it as long as it’s at roughly the same time daily.” Kreed said. “You will get a month’s supply at a time. Come see me a week before your first refill and we can see how it’s working for you.”
Kreed, CMO
Rand wasn’t sure what to make of this appointment. She was usually here for an hour. And no more anxiety? Really? Or at least no more anxiety and panic attacks? “I’ll make the appointment before I leave.” Rand’s schedule could be come very hectic or be very slow, she preferred to not miss making the appointment because other things were going on. “Thank you, Lt.”
Yeoman Rand
Kreed waved her of began to collect his things. “No thanks required. This is what I am here for, after all.” He inclined his head and simply turned and walked off.
Kreed, CMO
Well that was confusing. Of course it was his job, but she still appreciated it. She knew nothing about Saurians. Had she offended him? Oh no, she really hoped she hadn’t. She would have to read up on it. She didn’t want to be rude, after all. She got up from the biobed and stopped at the desk for the little jar of pills and made her appointment for 3 weeks. She made a note of it on her PaDD and then returned to work.
