There was no time like the present, and Rende didn’t like putting things off. When Lt Kreed sent the schedule out she had Rand take the first available for her. Then she had the Yeoman reschedule anything that had to be postponed. At the appointed time, Rende took the lift down to deck 9 and entered sickbay. A passing nurse stopped, “Oh Captain, how can we help you?”“I’m here for my annual physical.”
Asam, CO
A newly familiar voice said “Thank you for being prompt, Captain. This way, please.” Kreed stood further into Sickbay and directed her to a biobed. He pulled a privacy screen around and then said “Lay back, please. I will try to get this done as quickly as I can, but your record is not current. Expect this to take longer than normal.” and he began recording vitals.
Kreed, CMO
Rende moved to the bed and laid back on it, taking very slow deep breaths. “Take all the time you need.`I prefer to have my records current and up to date.” Her vitals were BP: 110/68, Pulse: 79, Respiration: 14, Blood Oxygen: 99%, Temperature: 36.5 degrees C.
Asam, CO
Kreed monitored her resting heart rate, respirations, temperature, blood oxygen, even the amount of water vapor in her exhalations. He ran at least four separate full body scans and then localized scans of seemingly random spots on her body. Once all those were done, he retrieved a hypo and said “Now for a blood test. Roll up your sleeve, please.”
Kreed, CMO
Her bio scans were interesting. There were several injuries, actually a lot, that were all healed, but old. They would have had to happen when she was a child, but they were combat injuries, some… well that couldn’t be right… before her great grandparents were born. And at some point she had had a child, but when was hard to tell, and her record had no mention of a pregnancy.
Rende rolled up her sleeve and held out her arm for him.
Asam, CO
Kreed held still for a long moment looking at the results. Then he looked at Rende. Then back to the results. “I know these indications are correct, because I know these instruments are calibrated and working properly.” He looked back at the Captain and said simply “Explain, please. You have scan results that indicate your record is very inaccurate. What is the cause of the discrepancies?”
Kreed, CMO
Rende sat up and pulled her sleeve down. “That explanation, Doctor is for the privacy of your office, and not a cubucal with a flimsy curtain for visual privacy.” She raises her brow. “Shall we?”
Asam, CO
Kreed simply nodded and said “Of course.” He gestured to the office door.
When they both were inside, he closed the door. “Apologies for the disorganization and clutter. My predecessor left a lot of things, and I am trying to find to sort. Please, be seated.” He took a seat himself behind rhe desk and then said “Very well. What do I need to know?”
Kreed, CMO
“This does not go beyond this room. Per Star Fleet Command’s order,” she actually rolled her eyes. “I am not human. My species is called El-Aurian. We are very long lived. Longer than Vulcans. Centuries. And we’re empathic. Command knows, but feels that society as a whole is not ready to know about us.”
Asam, CO
The horizontal eyelids blinked, followed by the vertical. Then both blinked again. “Very well. I will take that into account when dealing with you in a medical capacity from here on. For future reference, it would have saved us both time had you told me this in your office. Regardless, I can now make accommodations for you as needed.” He paused and then said “Is it necessary for me to falsify your records to reflect a more… human… medical history?”
Kreed, CMO
Rende nodded, “Yes it would have been, but watching how you handled the data compared with my file. I have had several doctors that chocked it up the device malfunction and never questioned it.” She lifted a shoulder with a slight smirk. “Consider it my way of seeing if you meant everything you said in my office.”
“As long as you don’t alter what is in there now, and only add to it, I see jo reason to falsify it. Honestly I think people could handle the knowledge.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out a data disk. “My complete medical history. For you only.”
Asam, CO
Kreed took the disk and proceeded to stand and move to a secure medical cabinet. He opened it and put the disk flat on a shelf and then set a bottle of something on top of it. Taking his seat, he said “If previous doctors did bot act on what their diagnostics showed them, they are poor doctors.” His tone was flat. “I will review your file during the night shift. I am less likely to be disturbed while doing so. Now.” He took the report from her biobed readings and said “You are within the normal human ranges for vital signs and show no areas I am currently concerned with. I will of course be requesting whatever species specific information I can get to ensure you are receiving proper nutrition and the like. Otherwise, I can sign off on your physical and allow you to return to duty.”
Kreed, CMO
Rende agreed that they weren’t very good doctors, or they were too afraid to ask. And that was a whole different character flaw. “It’s all on the disk. Other than our aging and empathic abilities, our physiology is the same as humans. I lived on Earth a long time and never encountered a problem with medical treatments. I even gave birth to my son there.”
Asam, CO
Kreed inclined his head and said “Very well. Do you have any concerns or issues you want to discuss? Or any health hoals I can help you achieve?”
Kreed, CMO
“No concerns. In a couple hundred years I might be ready to discuss middle age and arthritis,” she said tongue in cheek. “Goals? To keep active and fit. A lot of my time now is spent in the center chair or behind a desk. I have always been fit and active. I want to stay that way.”
Asam, CO
Kreed thought for a moment and then said “I can provide you with the transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation patches we use. They will stimulate your muscles to expand and contract, allowing you to ‘exercise’ while seated. For cardio, you will simply need to utilize the treadmill in the gymnasium. Let us try that for a week, and then revisit.”
Kreed, CMO
Rende nodded, “Sounds like plan.” Exercise while sitting down. It reminded her of those old commercials for bicycle peddles for senior citizens to use while sitting in recliners.
Asam, CO
“Very well.” Kreed said. “In that case, you are fit for duty. Thank you for helping us get your record updated and current, Captain. I trust the rest of rhe crew will follow your example.” and he stood up. “If there isn’t anything further, ma’am… we are quite busy and I must get back to work “
Kreed, CMO
