After the new CMO left, Rende left her ready room and made her way down to deck 9 and the Alden’s biology lab. She stepped in to the lab, “Cmdr Alden, if you have a moment please.” The new CMO was going to cause some ripples, but that wasn’t a bad thing in her opinion. However, she wanted her XO to be aware of the directives she’d handed down.

Asam, CO

“Of course, Captain.” Roman said, stepping out of the lab and leading her to his office. Once the door shut, he looked at Rende. “What is it?”

“Our new CMO has arrived. He’s a spit fire, and not afraid to hold his ground. I think that will work for us. That being said, medical is in a bad state. I’ve given him permission to schedule physicals for the entire crew as he sees fit, and to get it done before we leave space doc. We must set the example for the crew. No more neglecting basic duty requirements.” She looked contemplative. “I know that won’t be a problem for us, but I am worried about Rand. I know she’s scared that medical will find a reason to send her away because of her head injury. Especially because she had that really bad relapse, but it is very important that she has her health checked. That way she can continue to get better. I know she likes to spend her down time in the lab and tends to hide out there. If you could make sure she doesn’t hide from her appointment if you see her.”

Rende

Roman breathed a tiny sigh of relief. Rand liked to avoid medical… phew. “No problem, Captain. I’ll be sure she goes.” He said. He was not going to Sickbay. He wasn’t… no. No way. He nodded to the Captain. “I’d have appreciated knowing beforehand, I prefer the autonomy to make sure these physicals do not interfere with my science scheduling.”

“I understand, and normally I would allow.more time, but command is breathing down my neck wanting to know why over half the crew, including the command team are way past their check-ups. There is no way to justify it while we simply sit at space dock with no pressing mission. With Fleet Command right outside the air lock, I don’t want to invite further scrutiny. So let’s do our best to get this done. All of us.”

”…Understood, Captain.” Roman said, hiding his disdain for the task as usual. “You understand my labs are busy, I may not have time right away to go and waste forever in medical.” He said as if there were no arguing that fact.
