The transporter energized and soon the form of the reptilian Kreed solidified on the pad. His black eyes blinked twice, once horizontally and once vertically, as he adjusted ot the change in lighting between the station and the ship. He looked at the transporter officer and said “Kreed. Lieutenant. New CMO. Could you tell me how to get to the bridge, please?” The Ensign nodded and said “Welcome aboard, Doc. The Skipper is expecting you. Through the door, left, turbolift up to the bridge. She should be in the Ready room.” Kreed nodded and followed the directions, soon finding himself outside the door to the Captain’s office. He pressed the chime and waited, rocking back and forth slightly on his heels.Kreed, CMO
“Enter.” Came the barked command that belonged more on a parade ground than anywhere else. The captain was a human looking woman with jaw length coffee and cream colored hair and eyes that saw far too much. She was drinking something out of a frosted bottle that she was rolling back and forth between her palms as she glared at whatever on the screen that was displeasing her.
As the door opened she looked up, “Lt. Kreed, I presume. Have a seat.”

Kreed said “I am, and thank you.” and he took a seat, looking at the room, and it’s other occupant, as he did so.
Kreed, CMO
“Would you like something to drink?” She nodded at a side table that had water, coffee, and tea. “If you want something else I can send to the Galley for it.”
She sat back, crossed one leg over the other, and clasped her hands lightly in her lap. “Tell me about yourself, Kreed. This was a very sudden appointment.”

The Saurian nodded, black eyes glistening in the light. “It was, yes. But I saw the opening come across in the most recent update from Command, so I applied for it.” He paused and then said “As for me, this is my first posting as Chief Medical Officer; although I have filled that role on Starbase Four for the past six standard months. I am certified in both Emergency Medicine and Trauma Management; and I have advanced degrees in chemistry, biology, and xeno-biology. Have you served with aSaurian before, Captain? There are only some of us in Star Fleet… although I would like to see that number increase.”
Kreed, CMO
“Our CMO left unexpectedly and your record is very impressive,” she remarked. “I have never served with a Saurian before, no.” And that at least was true. “What should I know? About yourself, your medical practice, your culture?”
Asam, CO
“About myself, ” Kreed began, “- there is not much to say. I am one of six nest-mates- Saurians are hatched unlike most mammalian species- and I grew up on the Saurian homeworld. Our culture is very similar to that of humans; small familial units making up larger communities. I attended the Academy and was fortunate to do well enough in my studies that I was able to gain access to more advanced training and education.”Here he paused, thought a moment, and then moved on. “My approach to medicine is one of directt efficiency. While I may not be accused of being overly ‘warm’ or have the bedside manner of some of my more… empathically inclined… collegues; I am proud and confident enough in my abilities to say I am a good doctor. I do not take sides when it vomes to the care and treatment of my patients; nor do I tolerate outside interference. I know what is best for those in my care, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure they get it.”
Kneed, CMO
Rende smiled. “A large family is a blessing, I think. Though it may be a matter of outside perspective. Mine was small.” She uncrossed and crossed her legs. “The Sentinel has been without a steady Chief Medical Officer for the last 3 years. Our last was shoulder deep in trying to catch up with everything that was missed. She was gone before I before my scheduled yearly physical. My understanding is the crew has become a bit complacent about about reporting to sickbay. I hope you are up for the challenge. I need someone who can hold their own and stay with us.”
Asam, CO
Kreed inclined his head. “I am no quitter, Captain. I belive my record attests to that.”
Kreed, CMO
“Yes it does. Which is why I chose you above the other applicants.” Asam leaned back slightly, “What questions or requests do you have for me?”
Asam, CO
“What are your expectations of the Medical Department as a whole, and me specifically? How does this ship differ from others in the fleet?” He was thoughtful a moment then said “And why have you not been able to keep a CMO on board?”
Kreed, CMO
“For the medical department as a whole, I expect everyone to be current on their certifications, to set the example of keeping their own medical records and needs up to date, and put the health of the individual and crew foremost in their duties. For you, as the chief Medical Officer, I expect you to keep your department running efficiently. If there is a problem you need help with I expect you to ask for help. You are not just the chief Medical Officer, but a member of the senior staff. If you see something that should be brought to my or the XO’s attention, then speak up. I expect you to be part of the crew. No leader can lead if they are unapproachable. That seems to go double for people’s Medical concerns.”
“The Sentinel is unique in that the junior officers and enlisted along with the XO have been very stable since the new Ship was christened. The rest of the senior staff and including the CO has been a chaos of CO sta t change. There is stability, but not where it should be. The job gets done. They are an excellent crew, but they seem hard to trust and accept new people. As for why we can’t keep a CMO,” she smiled ruefully. “I’m not sure. I have only been here myself a very short time. But from my review of the logs and files, I would say it was from the lack of leadership from the previous COs.”
Asam, CO
Kreed looked at her for a moment, his eyelids blinking up and down and side to side, and then he said “As I do not know you well enough to know if that is fact or if you are simply passing responsibility to those that cannot defend themselves; I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say that is the case. Regardless of that, however, I do not intend to leave unless ordered to do so. But I will not tolerate a toxic environment, Captain. As you hold the right to correct and point out problems I may need to address; I as a member of your staff retain the right to do the same to you. I brook no interference in my department, however. I am the Chief Medical Officer. I am the most experienced and knowledgeable medical practitioner on this ship. As such, I expect to be consulted on matters that could impact the crew’s health. I also expect the other Senior Staff to follow my directions when it comes to matters of medicine. As I will listen to the Engineering Chief for matters related to the ship. Or the Security Chief in matters of safety. I care not for rank or title when it comes to my patients or my crew, Captain. I willalways do what is best for each of them, regardless of who they are in an organizational chart. You will get the same level of care that the lowest ranked crewman will receive… that being the best i can provide.”
Kreed, CMO
“Lt.” She gave him a long hard stare where the silence stretched. “You live up to that declaration and we will have no problems. You are the medical expert and the only time I will interfere in your department is if you aren’t doing your duty. As for my passing responsibility, I welcome you to read my file and judge for yourself. I am not too arrogant to admit when I am wrong and I know how to make use and listen to those who advise me.”
She stood up, “Go get your department in order, Doctor. Let me know what you need. We will be at space doc for another few days, so if you need equipment, supplies, or personnel now is the time. Dismissed Lt.” She was going to like this doctor very much.
