As it turned out the Governor had been, by proxy of his brother, paying protection to a gang of pirates. Their limited trust in the Federation had been completely shattered when it seemed to them that either no one noticed or no one cared. The Sentinel was able to lie in wait and meet the pirates’ aggression with better trained and armed response. Penalties to the colony for cooperating with pirates were waived as the situation was deemed “under duress.” Trust between the Colony and the Federation is starting to rebuild, but it will take time, though the colonists will always have a soft spot for the USS Sentinel and her crew for putting themselves in harm’s way without a second thought.
