[snip]Rende pushed the comm button for the shuttlebay on the control peel of the center chair =O=Excellent Ensign. Once engineering has gotten in and security cleared it, I want the ship’s navigation log. I want to know where it was and where it was going. Asam Out.=C= She pressed the button to close the comm and stared out the screen. Suddenly she turned the chair to face the back of the bridge. “En. ch’Sirhc. The Colonial communications have failed to follow protocol several times, correct? And they got nosey about our probes?”
“I understand you are quite skilled. Keep an eye on who they are talking to. Monitor for unofficial signals from both the main city and other locals.”
Asam, CO
Monitor for secret communications between the colonies both governmental and local? Today was a great day to be on the bridge. “Aye, sir,” Kovan said and got to work. These colonists so far haven’t really done much to impress. Kovan threw them a loop and lead them round and round in merry chases before they even arrived in the system. This should be fun. The communications en got to work.
Signals in space were were shouts in a dark cave. Traveling on and out until something “heard” the signal and either pushed the signal on or captured hold of it. Kovan needed to expand the Sentinel’s “ears” so to speak. The probes? “Hey, whoever is on science,” he called over his shoulder without looking away from his station, “Overclock the probes processors by 20% and tell it to direct that extra energy to sensor dish then turn up the tolerance levels to maximum.” This should, turn the probes into extra “ears” for the Sentinel. The hardware should be able to handle the extra 20% for a couple hours though it would also burn out the probe. Eh, a sacrifice to be made.
After that it was a matter of listening and testing different bands of frequencies until something came up.
En ch’Sirhc
Rotating one by one through the many MANY various frequency ranges was quite a time consuming process. Even if set to be done by the computer, only the fine ears, and reasoning of a real person could truely decipher any anomalies. Such it was that three hours and 20 some minutes had passed when ch’Sirhc caught a slight oddity on one of the higher end bands used for subspace radio traffic. It was a band line that normally was used for simple long range subspace transmissions of audio only bandwidth. Normally such should be filled with hits of many types, whether recent or new. But here beyond three signal echoes coming from Vok III itself at the colony which were just echoes of local traffic for flight control There was nothing else! This was quite odd really as one would expect currently running or echoes of fading recent use going to and from the colony. So if you ignored the flight control bands there was just......dead silence, which after almost three and a half hours of work was just plain WEIRD.

“Cmdr Alden, you have the bridge. Find out what happened to our second probe. Let me know what they find with the ship. I am goin’ down and introducin’ myself ta the Colonial leaders. Anythin’ I should know?” Rende hated this kind of diplomacy. People who wanted their independence, were rude about it, but too cowardly to let go of the apron strings. “En Farquharson stay here and assist the Cmdr as needed.”
Asam, CO
“Understood, Captain.” Roman was better with diplomacy, but this colony he found rather detestable and was happy to stay on the ship with Rand.
