As the group got down to the planet they had an array of colonists lined up in five rows at medical check in stations for their randomly selected colonial screenings. The teams would be expected to perform basic health scans, mental wellness checks, and simple blood and dna samples for any obvious anomalies. The colonists which seem grumpy to have their lives interrupted were of course complying without issues. Rules were rules after all.

Dr. MacKenzie began working on the colonists who had been lined up for the health screenings. He couldn’t help but notice the varied expressions on their faces, some appearing mildly irritated at the interruption to their daily routines while others seemed resigned to the necessity of the process. The colonists, it seemed, came from all walks of life, some were farmers, others were engineers, and a few were educators. There were individuals with families and those who were single, all seeking a new life in this far-flung colony. The diversity of ages, backgrounds, and skills demonstrated the broad spectrum of individuals present on this new world.

Thaddeus methodically worked his way through the health scans, noting any anomalies or potential health concerns as he went along. He could appreciate the colonists’ displeasure, but he also understood the importance of these screenings in ensuring the well-being of the entire community. As he conducted mental wellness checks, Tad spoke with each colonist, getting a sense of their emotional state and overall mental health. Some colonists shared their struggles with adapting to the new environment, while others expressed satisfaction with their new lives.

Collecting blood and DNA samples, Tad quickly and efficiently worked to screen for any potential health risks that could pose a threat to the colony. He was well aware that early detection of any issues could make a significant difference in the long-term health of the community. Throughout the process, Dr. MacKenzie maintained his usual gruff demeanor, focusing on his work and ensuring that he fulfilled his professional duties to the best of his abilities, despite any personal feelings he might have had.

As Charlie slowly worked through the mundane but essential examinations she was quietly pleased when she had a brief lull. Popping her samples aside for a moment she decided to check in with MacKenzie.

“Anything of note to report Dr?” She asked curiously.

Lt (jg) Bailey (CMO)

After nearly three hours of slowly working through the groups in line, the final colonists, mostly children by the end who had grumbled at their poking and prodding and blood sampling like any child would since time immortal had gone away. Looking through the first batch of samples MacKenzie would see in their batches nothing really standing out as anomalies. A few of the adults and children had signs of local infections but nothing concerning that standard medicine they could get here on the colony and bed rest would cure in a few days if not sooner. A few others of the handful of elderly adults up for a check up showed signs of high cholesterol or other poor blood problems due to age or a poor lifestyle choices but again nothing much to worry over there then just filing a report for follow ups with local doctors later.

As they would be filing the last batch, movement to the pairs left caught their eye. A mid-50s human woman with an air of haughtiness was approaching them. She wore an air of almost regal authority like many of the higher class nobles on the colony had, and her clothes though attired for that of a working doctor were of only the finest materials and color quality tones for one of her position. She was a high-born through and through for sure but also a doctor who worked hard for those under her care it seems given the respect and friendly smiles she got from everyone she was passing by in the colony. Crossing her arms about her chest the one stood off about ten feet to their left. “..So are you fleeters done stepping on my toes yet? I assume you got all you needed for those stupid colonial reports you fleeters so love..” she said tsk off to the side in annoyance and pushing her platinum blonde hair behind her shoulder with a flip of her right hand. It was at this point either Lieutenant Bailey or MacKenzie might see one last person had not been crossed off their list. One ‘Doctor Helen Elizabeth, 53 year olds, human female, Vok III head colonial doctor’ that was due for her own check up and had not reported in it seemed!

Dr. MacKenzie, still focused on the task at hand, barely looked up when he heard the haughty voice of the middle-aged woman. He quickly glanced at the list of colonists and realized that she was the only one left who hadn’t been checked. Without missing a beat, Dr. MacKenzie responded in his typically brusque manner.

“Doctor Helen Elizabeth, I presume? It seems you’re the last one on our list for the screenings. As much as we appreciate your hospitality, we are here to follow regulations and ensure the well-being of everyone in the colony, including its head colonial doctor,” Dr. MacKenzie said, his voice firm and calculatingly cool. Not impolite, but she could certainly read between the lines.

He gestured for her to come closer, indicating that it was time for her to undergo her own checkup. Despite her air of authority and annoyance, Dr. MacKenzie remained focused on his professional duties, determined to complete the task and provide a thorough report for the benefit of the colony and Starfleet. He was also damn sure he wasn’t going to let this grumpy faux-aristocrat’s poor attitude do anything for her. It might work on the colony where she felt some sense of control, but it went nowhere with him.
