Rand just raised a brow. “We must be really bad students then.” Her mind raced for a solution, he couldn’t be down with a broken arm. Not with all the recent events. “I don’t know, but we can figure something out. We need you healed and healthy, 100%.”Roman grinned again, “Nah, not bad students. Over-eager students, perhaps.” He shook his head, it wasn’t a question but a statement. “There are no landing parties scheduled, all I have lined up is paperwork. Nothing I can’t handle singlehanded.”
Rand had him sit down at the table and folded a towel to put under his wrist for the moment. She slipped into the bathroom when Randy arrived. He had the fuser but several other things including the materials to cast his arm. Apparently Randy felt really guilty. “Okay let me scan it first.” Randy pulled out the tricorder and ran the handheld over him. Rand reappeared in yoga pants and one of Roman’s shirts and sat down in a chair on his right.
Rand
Rand sat him down at the table and he rested his arm on the towel she folded and set under his wrist. The pain wasn’t too bad when it was held still. Really, Roman figured it was probably a minor fracture. Roman turned when Randy entered, carrying the fuser and to Roman’s relief, materials for a cast. He heard the bathroom door shut when Rand went in. He nodded and let Randy scan it. It was a complete radial break, near the head of the bone. His wrist was already swollen and looked puffy and uncomfortable.
When Rand came out of the bathroom and sat by him, she was wearing one of his shirts and for a long moment Roman was trying really hard not to stare right in front of her brother. When she sat down he gave her a look at obviously said What are you doing?

Randy didn’t groan but now he felt really bad. That was a complete break and in a horrible spot. He really didn’t want to cast it. Randy was too upset over what he’d done to pay attention to Roman staring at his sister. He was just glad that Rand was there to help keep Roman in one place. Luckily he didn’t have to set the bone since they’d stabilized it quickly enough. “You’re gonna have to hold still while I do this.” He set the bone fuser to the side, but it was actually at the perfect angle to work. So, while it pulled out all the other things he needed, he turned it on. Any little bit would help. Then he went over to the sink for water to make the plaster for the cast.
Roman was staring at her and Rand turned bright red. She set a hand on his arm, above the elbow, to keep it still. She knew exactly what his look was asking and she looked shy. She whispered so softly he had to lean in to hear her. “Ummm…trying to distract you?”
Roman smiled, blushing slightly. There was a stinging, aching pain associated with the bone fuser and when he felt it, a short moment after the machine turned on he turned and looked and Randy was by the sink with the plaster but headed back over. Set up on the table was the bone fuser.
Randy returned and whatever conversation they were having he didn’t care, he just wanted Roman to be still. He started working on wrapping the padding around his arm near the elbow and fingers, the non-painful areas first. Trying to let the fuser work as long as possible. It only needed 15 minutes.
Rand
Roman pulled away, yanking his arm out of Randy’s grip while Randy was working with the padding. It was painful but fear was a powerful motivator. Standing, he took two steps back, away from the table. “No bone fuser, no.” He was shaking his head as he said it. “Never again, not after last time.”

When he moved Randy almost yelled but it came out quite stern, flipping the machine off. “Don’t move! You could fuse the wrong thing.” Rand got up and followed him, slipping between his arm and his side. “Roman, come sit down. It won’t take long. You wouldn’t let me get away with it. And even if you are dead set against the bone fuser, you need a cast. You can’t leave the wrist untreated.” She pulled him back toward the chair and sat. Keeping his arm around her, a cool and smooth fabric brushed his fingers - satin. She perched precariously on the edge of her own chair and put her head on his shoulder. “The sooner you hold still the sooner he leaves.”
Rand
“Then don’t use the fuser!” Roman replied, cradling his arm with his other one. Then Rand slipped under his good arm, guiding him back toward the chair. He was reluctantly being pulled along by her. He looked at her when she said he wouldn’t let her get away with it. “Of course not.” He sat down again with her, still holding his arm protectively against his chest. His good arm was still around her and as they sat a soft satin brushed against his fingers. That Roman knew of, there was only one thing Rand owned that texture. Then she set her head on his shoulder. She was turning on the charm. Roman’s face was red. “No bone fuser?” he said, voice soft but with a note of anxiety.

Rand smiled softly up at him. “Well I can’t let you get away with it either.” When he asked about the bone fuser Rand gave him a gentle but honest look. “I don’t know. Without is 6 weeks…” She helped him set his arm back on the towel.
Roman knew exactly what she was doing, but well, who could say no to her when she was looking at them like that? He smiled playfully down at her, “Can’t you? Not even this once?” And then he let her help set his arm back up.
“3 months not weeks or this kind of break.” Randy interrupted. “12 weeks of a cast or 15 minutes with the machine.”
Rand knew Roman would say cast and then permanently damage his wrist pushing too hard. Rand had no idea what she was doing but she tried anyway. She leaned in whispering to him. “Ròmanach, ya just got cleared by Elbbirt. Do ya really wanna wait 12 more weeks ta pick me up again?”
Rand
Roman was ready to say ‘cast’ regardless of the amount of time he was supposed to wear it for. The things were itchy, sweaty, and notoriously uncomfortable but to him it was better than the bone fuser. But there was Rand, leaning further into him and whispering in his ear, like she often did when she was trying to keep him calm. He gave her a playful smile, “Don’t you think I can lift you one handed?” Then he shook his head, “You don’t even like being picked up, it embarrasses you.”
