(snip)
Down in Sickbay Rand was arguing with Temple over leaving. Elbbirt said she could go home and Rand was leaving. Elbbirt told Them someone had to walk her home, but no one could take her right then. Therefore Temple wasn’t letting her leave. But everyone was busy and Rand was leaving anyway and slipped out of Sickbay.

Rand

When Roman got down to sickbay, he was expecting to greet Rand and then walk her up to their quarters. But instead he found she wasn’t there. He hadn’t seen her on the way down, walking up with someone else. “Where’s Rand?”

~ Roman

Temple was hurrying past grumbling about stubborn young ladies who needed manners. She paused, “She left. Didn’t want to wait for someone to walk with her. Now I have to try and find her.” She buried out of Sickbay and down the corridor to check the Galley.

“She left?” Roman looked really worried as he looked at Randy. “Can she be on her own? We need to find her.” Why couldn’t she wait another couple of minutes for him? What if she got lost and needed help? Did she have her comm? Probably not.

Randy pinched the bridge of his nose. “She probably shouldn’t be. Let’s go see if we can find her. I’ll check in the Galley, maybe she got hungry.”

Roman paged Franks, =^= Have you seen Rand? If you do, tell me. =^= Then he exited sickbay looking for her.

Rand had left in the opposite direction and had stopped outside the biology lab and tried to sneak a glance at Nibbles.

Rand

Nibbles was in her usual place in her enclosure. The lab wasn’t particularly busy. Franks was in charge. Roman’s desk wasn’t the way he’d normally organize it. It looked more like the way it looked after Franks had been in charge when Roman was out for his heart. When the lab techs noticed her standing outside, some of them waved.

~ Roman

Rand didn’t really notice the desk except to feel bad that she wasn’t there to help. Rand waved to a couple of the techs. Franks noticed her and paused long enough to step outside. “Rand? Are you okay?”

Rand nodded, “I j…just wanted to peek at her.” Except half her words were in Gaelic. Franks glanced back down the corridor, “Should you be in Sickbay?” Rand shook her head, “They released me.” She looked around and suddenly looked confused. Franks told her to stay put. He couldn’t let her in the lab and he sent a tech to wait with her while he paged Alden. =^=Yes Sir outside the lab=^=

Rand didn’t wait for the tech though, she wandered off intent on going home. But she couldn’t quite remember how to get there. She took the lift but got off on the wrong deck.

Rand

When Roman heard Franks reply that she was outside the lab he headed there immediately but by the time he got there, she was gone. He headed to the lift straight away. Maybe he was worrying over nothing. He took the lift up to deck 3 and checked there first, hoping she’d found her way on her own.

~ Roman

Rand was not in the Galley or rec hall where Randy checked and she was not in deck 3. She had meant to get off on deck 3, but the lift had stopped in between to let someone else on. Rand had gotten off, not realizing it was the wrong deck. It was familiar, as most of the ship was, but nothing was right. No conference room, no transporter room, no command officer quarters, or her office.

Just lots and lots of quarters. She turned down a side corridor, maybe she needed to go that way? Or was it this way? This didn’t look like deck 3 either. Where was the lift? Maybe…there was an access hatch. She could take the ladder. She reached for the rail, but when she went to step onto the ladder she got dizzy. She decided the ladder was a bad idea and turned back. A door slid open and she stepped into a lift. “Rand, are you feeling better? We haven’t seen you in awhile. Chief Helpful has missed having you around.”

Helpful? Maybe that’s where she was going. Deck…6? The cargo bays. She told the lift “6” and it didn’t go anywhere. The doors just opened to let her out. The NE followed her out of the lift. “Rand, are you okay?”

She nodded absently, “Helpful. Say hi.” The NE followed her, until they crossed a comm panel and he called Randy. Who then called Roman. =^=She’s on deck 6.=^= The NE lost track of her while on the comm, but went looking for her, checking the side corridors on the way to the cargo bay.

Rand

Roman checked everywhere on deck three. When he couldn’t find her, he checked everywhere on deck nine. Then he got the call for deck six and headed there at a jog. Lucky he hadn’t overdone it during the day because he certainly was now. Arriving on deck six he looked at the NE. “Where did she go?”

~ Roman

“That way, Sir. She got on lift and then said she was going to deck 6 to see Chief Helpful. Then got right back off the lift. I followed her until we passed the comm unit. She kept going. I lost sight of her. I was going to the cargo bay, but wanted to check the passages on the way.”

Roman nodded to the NE and then rushed toward the cargo bay. When they met up with the NCO, he set a hand against the wall trying to catch his breath.

Closer to the bay a NCO met up with them. “Have you seen Rand?” She paused, “Oh, Cmdr. Umm she just came into the cargo bay looking for the chief. I told her he was off duty and then she wandered out. I thought she came this way.”

“Which way did she go when she wandered out?” Roman asked and then when the NCO answered he headed in that direction at as fast of a pace as he could manage.

Rand had given the NCO and crew a bit of a hard time. She didn’t mean to, but she wasn’t supposed to be in the cargo bay and moving things around with her wandering about hadn’t been safe. She’d left to get out of the way, and then remembered this was where she’d been running when she broke her foot. She turned down a side corridor, but then didn’t remember where she was going.

Rand

Roman searched deck 6 for her. It was easier than some other decks out have been, because he could assume she wasn’t in any crew quarters so he skipped those while he looked, making a full lap around the deck at a speed walk. “Rand? Miranda?” He called her name occasionally in an out-of-breath tone, hoping that if she were nearby she would respond.

~ Roman

Coming around the corner, there was Rand. She was leaned against the bulkhead, one hand behind her head, eyes closed. Hearing her name she opened her eyes and looked around. Seeing Roman the look of confusion left her face and she smiled. “Roman where were you?” Then when he got closer, she whispered very quietly. “I.... can’t find our quarters.”

Rand

Roman leaned a hand against the wall, breathing hard. “There you are.” He subtly patted his pockets in the vain hope his hypo was there. It wasn’t. He was out of breath, his chest was hurting, he was lightheaded, and the nausea was worse, probably because of all that activity with his stomach upset. He could look for his hypo in their quarters when he took her there. He put an arm around her and started walking her to their quarters. “It’s alright. It’s this way, remember? We’re on deck six and our quarters are on deck three.”

~ Roman

“But I went to deck 3....” She hadn’t though. She had called for deck 3 and then gotten off on the wrong deck without realizing it. The way toward the lift was busy, several people were looking for her. Seeing Alden with her, it was like the whole deck let out a breath it was holding. Several nodded or waved and then went back to work. Waiting for the lift, Rand finally looked at up at him. He was breathing awefully hard. She placed her hand over his chest. “Roman? Are you okay? You don’t sound good.”

Rand

“You just got off a little early. You were close.” Roman said, nodding back to those going back to work. And then, while waiting for the lift, she asked what he had hoped she would not. It made him happy to hear her ask again, but he could absolutely NOT tell her he was hurting because he had to track her down. “I’ll be fine. I just did too much running around at work.” He managed a smile though for him, his head felt light and floaty and his body felt heavy, his stomach hurt like it had earlier, and though they were now standing still, he couldn’t catch his breath. He stepped onto the lift with her. If he couldn’t find it upstairs, should he call Randy? Randy hadn’t seemed in a good mood earlier. Hearing that he’d lost the hypo again was probably not going to make him happy.

~ Roman

Rand looked at him funny, “You don’t sound okay. You shouldn’t push yourself that hard.” Wasn’t there something he was supposed to do if he’d pushed himself too hard. Her brows drew together as she tried to think about it. But was she really remembering correctly? She couldn’t even figure out what deck she was on. Rand leaned on him more than she should. If she knew that he was really struggling she wouldn’t have, she just felt reassured being close to him. The lift stopped at the next deck and there stood Randy. “You found her.” He’d been searching deck 5 after hitting 7. His eyes passed over Roman and he grabbed Rand and yanked her over into a huge bear hug. Rand was confused. Randy reached into his back pocket and dialed up the dosage and passed it to Roman behind Rand’s back. Randy kept a hypo on him for Rand, incase she needed it. Same medication Roman needed, he just had to adjust the dosage.

Roman smiled at her look. “Sometimes I have to. But I’ll try not to next time.” She leaned on him and he tried not to lean against the wall, wrapping his arms around her in a hug. But the lift stopped way before it was supposed to and the doors opened to Randy on deck five. “She was wandering around on deck six. I should have commed you to tell you… I forgot.” Then Randy pulled Rand away from him and hugged her tight, slipping him a hypo.

Randy waved his hand dismissing it. He understood, Roman just wanted to find her and get her home. Plus with they way he looked, Randy was lucky Roman was still standing. “Just glad you found her.” She’d been wandering around for an hour.

“Randy? What do you mean found me?” Randy hugged her really tight. She’d scared him too, and didn’t even know it. He berated her quietly for the rest of the ride up to deck 3. “Yes found you. You wandered off instead of waiting for us. Don’t do that.” He kissed her forehead and sighed, “I know you didn’t mean to. I’m just glad Roman found you.” When they got off the lift Randy stayed behind to call down to Temple so she knew Rand wasn’t wandering around lost.

Rand | Randy

Roman hesitated a long moment and then gave himself the hypo as the lift stopped and slipped it back to Randy. Then he put an arm around Rand and walked off the lift, the meds starting to help. “And I’ll find you every time you wander off.” He walked with her back to their quarters.

~ Roman

Rand hugged Randy tight before Roman put his arm back around her. She leaned against him staring at her hands, “I didn’t mean to wander off.” How did that happen? She was going home, Elbbirt said she could go home. But how did she end up on deck 6? She entered their quarters and sat down on the bed, her head suddenly pounding. She wanted to sleep.

Roman hugged her as she leaned on him. “I know. It’s okay.” The meds were helping him feel better, the chest pain had subsided, his breathing was more normal, and the lightheadedness was fading. The nausea was only a little better. He sat down next to her. “You’re home. No more sickbay” he said, smiling and then hugging her again.

Randy appeared at the door shortly after with a hypo for Rand and Roman’s heart and antibiotic hypo. He gave them quickly. “I’m next door if you two need anything.” Then he left, almost as exhausted as they were.

Rand | Randy

Roman nodded to Randy as he left and then lay down, beckoning for Rand to do the same. “I hope neither of us needs sickbay again for the rest of our lives.” He commented.

~ Roman

Rand scooted back on the bed and then laid down, yawning hugely. “No more sickbay, ever…” Her voice was quiet, sleepy, “… it’s too much.” Being home should have felt better. Everything should be fine now, but Rand felt she had missed something. Something was wrong and she couldn’t figure out what it was. Something she was supposed to know or have done....She fell asleep, her hand bunched in his shirt, but slept quietly. It wasn’t till the next night that the night terrors started.
