Roman touched her lightly on the shoulder as he passed her, going for his own hairbrush. “I would’ve helped you,” He said softly. Once his hair was finished he took the tea and took a sip… It wasn’t as sweet as usual. Not enough honey. Not wanting to make her feel bad, he took another sip like nothing was wrong. He could add honey later. “Want to go get breakfast?”~ Roman
She smiled at him. She started easily in English but the longer she talked the slower her speech became as she had to concentrate, “I know, but it was wet when we went to bed. It got really tangled. I knew it would take awhile…” Eventually she paused and rubbed her forehead. It would have been much easier if she had waited for him, but she didn’t want him to be late for her. At his question she nodded, placing her hands on the table to steady herself, she stood. “Yes.”
They headed out the door. They headed away from her office for the turbolift. She held onto his arm just in case she got light headed.
Rand
Roman put his arm around her, supporting her so she wouldn’t fall. Down in the galley, he didn’t want her to fall trying to carry a tray so he said, “Do you want to take a seat and I’ll get the food?” Even if she wanted to go with, he planned on carrying her food too.

The trip to the galley never seemed very far, but it did now. When Roman offered to get the food she agreed, grateful to sit down. She made her way very carefully through the tables to a their usually table by the far wall. The Galley was always mostly empty at this time. Rand slid into the seat, making a corner for herself between the wall and the back of the chair, to wait for Roman.
Chef Gorshin was bringing out a small pot of breakfast gravy that he sat on the counter. The selection seemed to be Tellarite inspired this morning, but there was traditional breakfast scones. It seemed lately that no matter what Chef made there was something traditionally English or Scottish in the offerings. A bid to make Rand and the Cmdr feel better. Alden had been a returning familiar sight in the Galley, even if he didn’t stay long, but Rand not so much. Gorshin greeted the Cmdr, “How are you this morning, Cmdr?”
Roman took two plates of the scones and drinks for both of them. He appreciated the food, it was like Gorshin thought he could make everything better with a meal that reminded them of home. “I’m getting better,” he replied, shrugging. “You don’t happen to have honey for tea, do you?” He gestured to his tea thermos, “She went a little light on it this morning.”
In fact the chef did think he could make all things better with food. The aroma and taste of something familiar had proven effects on a person’s mental health. He was happy to do his part. So in that effort, Gorshin grabbed the thermos and put it behind the counter before twisting the top off and giving it a sniff. Like any chef dedicated to his craft aroma played as much a part as flavor. His brows drew together, it wasn’t like Rand to get Alden’s tea wrong, or anyone else’s for that matter. In fact she was almost a tyrant about it.
Glancing over at the far table where Rand was sitting, “How is she doing?” he asked with a great amount of concern.
Rand
Roman glanced at her too and sighed softly. “She’s better but she’s still confused, can’t always speak English, forgets where she is, where we are… I don’t want to leave her alone but I also can’t abandon my job to take care of her. I can’t bring her to the labs, it’s an accident waiting to happen…” He sighed again and shrugged.

Gorshin added half a dollop of honey to the thermos and stirred it before replacing the lid and handing it back. He wiped his hands on his apron glancing at her again and then back. “Do you think she might want to stay and help me for awhile? She used to come in and help me bake. She said she helped her grandmother a lot. If she gets tired or feeling unwell I can call you or take her back to her quarters. Let her do something familiar that isn’t too risky?” The grandfatherly older man obviously had a soft spot for the young yeoman.
Gorshin
Roman took the thermos, thanking Gorshin for fixing his tea. Then he picked up their tray of food. “I think she’d love that. She hates feeling like she can’t help anyone.” He looked a little worried and added, “Just keep an eye on her so she doesn’t burn herself or anything. I’ll ask her when I get over there.”
“Promise, nothing sharp or hot. She can pound away at dough for the bread or mix cake batter. It’s the least I can do after all the help she’s given me.” He took the empty tray of scones and carried it back into the kitchen.
Roman took the tray and sat down at the table Rand picked and gave her her breakfast. Taking his own breakfast, he asked, “Would you want to help out Gorshin today? Have something to do instead of sit in bed all day?”

The scones were still warm and had the buttery sweet aroma that made Rand’s mouth water. She picked one up and took a bite that flaked and melted. She perked up at the idea. Rand wasn’t an outstanding cook, but she had always enjoyed helping her grandmother in the kitchen. Not that Gorshin needed an extra person in the kitchen, but she could help. Especially since she wasn’t going to be on duty for awhile. Then just as quickly she looked uncertain. What if she got confused, forgot where she was or what she was doing and messed the food up? Their resources weren’t so plentiful and storage space so vast that they could afford to waste anything. What if she needed help but couldn’t remember how to translate the words?
She would really like to stay and help, have something to do other than stare at the wall and worry. While she thought she slowly picked at the scones and ate them. Finally she looked up at him, “Do you think it’s okay?” She figured Roman wouldn’t mention it if he didn’t think it was, but he also didn’t make unilateral decisions for her. Though given the situation she wouldn’t be upset if he did.
Rand
He nodded. “It will be fine. Gorshin will make sure you’re okay and if you need anything, contact me with your comm. I’ll have mine all day. It’s only if you want to, but I know you hate doing nothing.” He ate some of his breakfast and then drank some of his tea. “And I’ll come by for lunch. Promise.”
~ Roman
She really did want to. If she had something to do, something to focus on, maybe she wouldn’t accidently go wandering off. She nodded, “Okay.” She focused on her breakfast her mind whirling, and giving herself a headache before she tried to put a stop to her worry. Roman would be back for Lunch and she could call him or Randy if she needed them. Her hand dropped, her fingers touching her comm reassuringly, except her comm wasn’t there. She’d forgotten it. There were still the ship’s comms though, right?
Rand
Roman noticed the change in her expression when Rand reached for her comm. She’d forgotten it. He unclipped his from his belt and handed it to her. “Here.” He could use the comm panel, or someone else’s comm. He would only be in the lab all day anyway, and he planned to do something easy. He needed to be ready in case she needed him.
