Roman touched her lightly on the shoulder as he passed her, going for his own hairbrush. “I would’ve helped you,” He said softly. Once his hair was finished he took the tea and took a sip… It wasn’t as sweet as usual. Not enough honey. Not wanting to make her feel bad, he took another sip like nothing was wrong. He could add honey later. “Want to go get breakfast?”

She smiled at him. She started easily in English but the longer she talked the slower her speech became as she had to concentrate, “I know, but it was wet when we went to bed. It got really tangled. I knew it would take awhile…” Eventually she paused and rubbed her forehead. It would have been much easier if she had waited for him, but she didn’t want him to be late for her. At his question she nodded, placing her hands on the table to steady herself, she stood. “Yes.”

They headed out the door. They headed away from her office for the turbolift. She held onto his arm just in case she got light headed.

Roman put his arm around her, supporting her so she wouldn’t fall. Down in the galley, he didn’t want her to fall trying to carry a tray so he said, “Do you want to take a seat and I’ll get the food?” Even if she wanted to go with, he planned on carrying her food too.

The trip to the galley never seemed very far, but it did now. When Roman offered to get the food she agreed, grateful to sit down. She made her way very carefully through the tables to a their usually table by the far wall. The Galley was always mostly empty at this time. Rand slid into the seat, making a corner for herself between the wall and the back of the chair, to wait for Roman.

Chef Gorshin was bringing out a small pot of breakfast gravy that he sat on the counter. The selection seemed to be Tellarite inspired this morning, but there was traditional breakfast scones. It seemed lately that no matter what Chef made there was something traditionally English or Scottish in the offerings. A bid to make Rand and the Cmdr feel better. Alden had been a returning familiar sight in the Galley, even if he didn’t stay long, but Rand not so much. Gorshin greeted the Cmdr, “How are you this morning, Cmdr?”

Roman took two plates of the scones and drinks for both of them. He appreciated the food, it was like Gorshin thought he could make everything better with a meal that reminded them of home. “I’m getting better,” he replied, shrugging. “You don’t happen to have honey for tea, do you?” He gestured to his tea thermos, “She went a little light on it this morning.”

In fact the chef did think he could make all things better with food. The aroma and taste of something familiar had proven effects on a person’s mental health. He was happy to do his part. So in that effort, Gorshin grabbed the thermos and put it behind the counter before twisting the top off and giving it a sniff. Like any chef dedicated to his craft aroma played as much a part as flavor. His brows drew together, it wasn’t like Rand to get Alden’s tea wrong, or anyone else’s for that matter. In fact she was almost a tyrant about it.

Glancing over at the far table where Rand was sitting, “How is she doing?” he asked with a great amount of concern.

Roman glanced at her too and sighed softly. “She’s better but she’s still confused, can’t always speak English, forgets where she is, where we are… I don’t want to leave her alone but I also can’t abandon my job to take care of her. I can’t bring her to the labs, it’s an accident waiting to happen…” He sighed again and shrugged.

Gorshin added half a dollop of honey to the thermos and stirred it before replacing the lid and handing it back. He wiped his hands on his apron glancing at her again and then back. “Do you think she might want to stay and help me for awhile? She used to come in and help me bake. She said she helped her grandmother a lot. If she gets tired or feeling unwell I can call you or take her back to her quarters. Let her do something familiar that isn’t too risky?” The grandfatherly older man obviously had a soft spot for the young yeoman.
