Randy considered. “I suppose if the K3 indicator gets too high we can always…no she can’t have pain killers like that. Not with the concussion.” Randy considered. Pain or the feeling of being paralyzed. She wouldn’t be, but with the severity of the concussion she might be too confused to understand. The strain…”I think Alden’s right. We should remove the nerve block.” Randy appreciated Roman making him part of the discussion, and though he was on Rand’s medical file, it was Roman’s decision now. There was no way Roman wouldn’t have asked Randy. He was just as afraid of making the wrong choice as Rand had been. But the idea of Rand scared and feeling like she was unable to move… Roman shuddered at the idea. He felt sure, she’d prefer the pain.
“Alright, Cmdr if you would make sure her head stays still.” Shrine helped to roll Rand to her back and after a few minutes Elbbirt had removed the nerve block. Her stats went up as her body started to register sensation and pain again and she moaned quietly her hands jerking. Elbbirt gave her a slightly higher dose of the anti-inflammatory and paired it with an NSAID. Then things seemed to level off. Randy didn’t stay. He’d promised to walk Tracy back to her quarters when they let her leave.
Rand didn’t feel good, but she wasn’t sure what was wrong. Her stomach hurt, but not like she’d eaten something bad or when she was having an anxiety attack. She was having a hard time moving, getting her limbs to respond or even her eyes to open. Was she sedated? Why?! What happened?! Her heart rate began to increase.
Roman was still talking to her. Sitting by her, his hand on her shoulder, he was running out of things to talk about. She always told him stories. But all his stories had Jay in them and he didn’t want to upset himself right now, more than he already was. Instead he recited scientific facts he thought she’d like. When her heart rate started to go up, he started rubbing her shoulder again, trying to be soothing.
She could hear Roman talking, but he seemed far away or maybe he was whispering. Well he wouldn’t be whispering if something was wrong would he? Roman didn’t yell but he certainly would be giving orders at a whisper. Then she drifted deeper into sleep again for a bit.
Her head hurt, throbbing really and her heart was racing. Her hands twitched and they hurt, a small moan escaped. she could hear the monitors in sickbay. Why was she in sickbay? “Roman…” Rand forced her eyes open and immediately closed them as the world spun and her head began to pound in earnest and something else was wrong, but she couldn’t focus enough to figure it out.
Rand
Her hands twitched and Roman winced a little himself at her moan, wishing he could do something to help. “Miranda. Just relax, you’ll be okay.” He said, as calmly as he could, still rubbing her shoulder gently. He hated waking up groggy and disoriented. He knew Rand felt the same. He was getting really, really tired himself, it had been a long day and while his energy was coming back he was still always exhausted at the end of the day. But he wasn’t planning on sleeping. He had to stay with Rand.

Her brow wrinkled and the back of her head felt cold, the cold also felt amazing. She tried opening her eyes again, but the light was way to bright in the room. She lifted her hand to cover her face and that really hurt. Not like it would have when it first happened, but enough it made her stomach roll and heave. Her fingers also didn’t want to move right, there was something wrapped around both her hands keeping them from moving right. She moved her head and that elicited a cry as pain sliced through her head. She stopped trying to move. Roman said something about relax…okay....She’d be okay? What? “Where…are we?” Her speech was very slurred and anything more than a few words wouldn’t be understandable.
Rand
Roman called the nurse to make sure she was okay. He had been told to call when she started to wake up and she definitely was. “Don’t move too much, it’ll hurt,” he said as she tried to move her head. “Sickbay.” He didn’t want to say more. He remembered how when she was in the hospital, Randy had refrained from telling her anything too stressful. Her heart was fine, she didn’t need to be completely coddled, but he didn’t want to totally stress her out right away either.

Sickbay…that’s right, Roman…someone hurt him. Why was she in bed and not him? But she stopped moving, trying to think too much made her head hurt. Shrine came in almost immediately and heard Alden telling her she was in sickbay. She walked over while glancing at the monitor. Nothing stood out as problematic. “Rand,” she laid a hand on Rand’s other shoulder. “How do you feel? Are you hurting.” Rand felt bad being rude but she just couldn’t turn her head to face the person talking. It hurt and made her feel like she was on a boat in the middle of a hurricane. “Stom…ch....hands…be sick” Shrine moved away quickly to the cabinet and came back with a hypo. “Your stomach is upset?” She just wanted to clarify. Rand mumbled something affirmative. “This will help,” and she pressed the hypo into Rand’s shoulder.
Elbbirt came in and spoke with Shrine and then came up beside Alden. “Rand, it’s Dr Elbbirt.” Rand’s brow bunched up again. “Roman?” Was something wrong with Roman? Where was he? He was just there. “He’s fine and right next to you beside me. Do you think you can open your eyes?” She just wanted to sleep, she was soooo tired. She knew he wouldn’t leave her alone until she did. She opened them and then squeezed them shut again. “The light hurts?” He reached over to the controls and turned the lights way down. “Alright, I turned the lights down, try again.” Rand opened her eyes, her pupils were still out of sync. Elbbirt flashed a light across both eyes quickly before Rand closed her eyes against the pen light and muttered, “Stop.” Her eyes weren’t as reactive as they should be. He turned to Shrine, “keep the lights low.”
“Rand, do you now where you are?”
She didn’t answer right away, “m..m..medical.”
“Do you remember what happened?”
Roman was hurt…right? She tried to think but her head throbbed and tried to shake her head no, which only made everything worse. Elbbirt patted her shoulder. “Alright just rest.” Elbbirt moved away toward the other bed and turned to face Roman. “The concussion is pretty bad. She’ll be confused for awhile. She may have some amnesia at first. We’ll keep the lights low for her eyes and head. If she sleeps it’s okay. The ice pack is good, and we’ll monitor her pain. Also, Grat signed your release before he went off shift. I’ll have Shrine bring her something to drink. Don’t let her get up, she’ll fall and might hit her again.”
Elbbirt
Roman nodded to Elbbirt’s instructions. He was still sitting by the bed, looking at Rand with concern, his hands clenching the sheets of her bed during the 20 minutes off phase of icing her head. His eyes were droopy from tiredness. He remembered from his own concussion, falling and hitting her head again could be deadly. He’d not let that happen. He had been hoping everything would be okay when she woke up, just a little amnesia. Her confusion and everything had him really worried. He just wanted her to be okay. Wanted her to be there when he got out of Sickbay.
Then he looked up at Elbbirt. “What? My release? Already?” He’d forgotten about it entirely. He couldn’t leave! “No! I… My chest hurts. I should stay a few extra days. I can’t leave!” It wasn’t a lie, his chest did hurt, though not bad, it was nothing to be concerned about, he was just trying to find an excuse so he could stay with Rand. “I’ll… overwork myself without her.” Another probable truth he was using to stay with her.

“Grat felt like if something would cause a relapse it would be this. He didn’t see a need to confine you to the room for another 12 hours.” Elbbirt patted his shoulder, “You can stay as long as you want, Cmdr.” But out of due dilligance, Elbbirt picked up a tricorder and scanned Alden. Adrenaline, large amounts of it were making his heart race, but not dangerously so. There was no wonder though. Elbbirt wasn’t sure how Alden was sitting in here and not out there looking for who did this. Shrine paused, but didn’t say anything when Alden said he needed to stay. She wasn’t sure what the rest of the medical staff would make of it, but she remembered him staying with Rand until the meds put her to sleep when she broke her foot. She would have to make sure that his early release was kept quiet so people didn’t talk. She left to go get food for Alden and drinks for Rand.
Roman’s chest hurt? He needed to stay in sickbay? Something about that didn’t sound right but she couldn’t figure out what. She started struggling to get up, putting weight on her hands. The pain making her jerk her hands out from under the weight as pain begans to race along her hands and arms. “Roman....” and mumbling something about bread or maybe it was breath. It was hard to make words form. He couldn’t panic, it was really important that he not panic. She couldn’t remember why, but she had to remind him to breath.
