Roman nodded his agreement. “Your Clan Farquharson is well known in Scotland, isn’t it? I wouldn’t want to bet your life that they don’t know who you are. Nor that they wouldn’t take a shot at you if they had the chance. And we don’t need a barbequed Scotsman to go with our french-fried Englishman. It will strain available personnel, but we can’t risk using guards we don’t personally know and trust.” The monitors started to beep, he was stressing himself and stressing his heart talking about this. He gave a frustrated sigh.

“I’ll look into assigning someone.” Morgan nodded and stood up. “Thank you, Cmdr. If I have more questions I’ll be back. I’ve looked at the tapes, it looks like it was tampered with during gamma shift, roughly 3 weeks ago, while the normal lab staff was on their meal break.”
Roman nodded, “If I had some way of telling you who came and went I would, but there is no such thing.... Although, you might want to ask Ensign Scott. She’s one of my gamma shift officers. Horrible gossip, but has her nose everywhere. If anyone saw it, I’d say she would.”
Morgan nodded, “I’ll talk with her.” She pointed at Randy, “You stay put till I figure something out.”
Rand looked up at the monitor, she didn’t look concerned this time. She took Morgan’s place beside the bed and squeezed his hand. She knew he was frustrated. “It’s okay. You’re heart is beating a little faster, but there’s a reason. You’re stressed over the investigation, it’s your body’s natural reaction. It’s supposed to do that. But it’s not dangerously high, or high for no reason.” She turned, “Right Randy?”
Randy rolled his eyes but smiled, “Right. The machines are going to warn us when it starts going up or changes rhythm because it can go bad quickly. But your body reacting normally to stress and then coming back to normal on its own, is good. We just have to make sure it doesn’t go bad.”
Rand
Roman nodded. That did help. He still hated the monitors’ noise, though, and he couldn’t wait to get out. “Are there any other questions for me?” He asked Morgan.
“No Cmdr. Thank you.” Morgan left she had people to talk to and another security detail to arrange. Shouldn’t they be past this kind of thing by now in human history?
After she left, he set Franks’ reports aside. He hadn’t read it yet anyway. Hadn’t been able to focus on them. So instead he just watched the lab feeds. They were really relaxing to him, making him feel closer to his animals.

The rest of the day was quiet, Rand even, finally, slept some. Well slept well anyway. The sound of the machines woke her, but for the moment Roman seemed calm watching the animals. Watching Franks try to wear Rand’s sleeve so he could interact with Nibbles was comical and Mushu’s eyes extended out fully, weaving back and forth watching him, but he didn’t seem stressed. The Chinzillas were the most changed. Even though they were mostly separated, they were calmer not trying to attack each other through the partitions.
Roman watched the feeds almost all day. For part of the day he rested, not truly asleep but his eyes were closed. The baby chinzillas were getting bigger, he noted. Before long it would be time to sent them away as well. Mushu would occasionally watch the door, as if watching for someone. That made Roman wish he could go see the lizard. After a while he reached for Rand’s hand.
After dinner, Grat and Temple came in, making the room a little crowded, but it was time for Roman to try and move around. He was cautioned not to move too fast, and that they would check his heart rate and BP as he sat up and then stood and then walked. Randy and Grat were next to him incase he blacked out or got too dizzy. Rand knew, from personal experience, it would happen, but if Roman was careful he wouldn’t fall and get hurt.

It was finally time for Roman to try and move around. He’d been waiting all day, he hated not being allowed up. He sat up, slowly, and his heart rate shot up, making him dizzy, but then dropped to a high but okay number. When it seemed it was settled and the dizziness faded, he stood, Randy on one side of him and Grat on the other. He wanted to take a step, his body had other ideas. His heart rate shot up, his blood pressure plummeted, and he went quickly from dizzy to lightheaded to blacking out. Randy and Grat had to catch him to keep from falling, and his vitals weren’t quickly normalizing.
