Roman smiled, that reassured him. And it meant she wouldn’t have to leave too much. He took a deep breath, to help his heart rate. “I’ll come to you myself if I hear there’s been an incident, so you better not be involved in anything for both of us.”
Rand smiled, he was absolutely serious, but at least he was making the effort to calm down. “I will be even more extra cautious then.” She leaned in and kissed his cheek and then stayed there, close, breathing with him.
Roman put an arm back around her and breathed with her. He was trying to calm down, if not for his own safety then for her. It was hard for him, just being in Sickbay made him nervous and so did his heart. He wanted to grow old with her too and that was only possible if his heart kept working.
“A’right enough of that. You’ve got to be hungry.” Randy swung a table arm over and then picked up the tray Shrine and brought. Semi-liquid foods: soup, jello, pudding, apple sauce, and the like. Randy pointed at Rand, “You too. Over there on your bed, eat.” Rand crossed her arms looking stubborn, “What about you?”
Randy grinned, “Naw, I have a dinner date with this really cute, pale, gingered hair girl. She’s got hair you can’t help but run your fingers in it’s soooo soft. She loves to cuddle and be scratched between her floppy ears, and a mean back kick if you make her mad.” Rand couldn’t help it, she giggled. “Oh and did I mention how cute she is when she twitches that tiny nose of hers?” Randy put two hands over his heart and sighed dramatically.

Roman shook his head. “Don’t spoil her too much.” He was hungry, he felt like he hadn’t eaten in five days despite having at least had IV nutrition. He squeezed Rand’s hand a little bit, not wanting her to move away from him. And then he looked at the tray and made a face. “Apple sauce? Pudding? I don’t get real food?”

Randy laughed, “It’s not spoiling to give her attention and know she’s loved. That’s just taking care of her.” Rand rolled her eyes. “Well at least he isn’t feeding her treats all the time.”
Randy shook his head, “Nope. You know the drill. If you keep that down then you can have whatever you want. I’m going to go check on your rabbit, then eat and shower. K’pok is outside the door with Richards.” Randy looked at Rand, “You don’t go anywhere while I’m gone. Shrine will be in and if you need anything just tell her.”

Roman sighed dramatically, grabbed the soup, and started eating it. “Bring my PaDD, please.” Normally he wouldn’t ask, but Randy would be in his quarters anyway, to play with and feed Pipkin. Then he looked at Randy just before he left. “Same goes for you. I hear anything happens I’ll come myself.” It was getting later in the morning, Elbbirt and Grat would switch soon. Roman wanted to see Pipkin, and more than he’d like to admit, Mushu. That lizard was his first animal from his current project and he was way more attached then he was supposed to be.

“Sure. Rand you need anything?” She didn’t, well not anything from their quarters anyway. Randy turned with a snap at Alden’s last comment and raised a brow with a horribly concealed grin. “I think we need to scan your brain. The current must have rewired your brain if you’re worried about me.” Randy left and Shrine came in and sat down at a far corner, giving them as much privacy as she could.
Roman smiled and shook his head. “For all you know, maybe it did.” He was worried about it, he knew about Randy’s nobility and if there was a fanatical group out to kill nobles… Well, Roman could see why his family ranked higher on the hit list but if Randy was there, and unprotected? Why wouldn’t they try it? Rand’s risk was well stated, she was nobility herself and engaged to Roman. But she had guards and she was staying here, and Roman was still going to worry they’d get to her somehow.
Rand went stiff in his arms. It had occured to her that Randy could be just as equally at risk. They’re family was considered Scottish nobility even though she and Randy were a handful of steps away from the ‘proper’ family as the English reconned it. But Morgan hadn’t assigned a guard to Randy so she’d trusted that Morgan didn’t think he was at risk. But then again she and Randy didn’t really talk about all that. Neither had Roman, so what did she know? The fact that Roman felt to warn Randy just confirmed her fears.
She moved over to her bed to eat because if she didn’t Randy would send her away until she did. Rand was trying really hard to not cry and be emotional over it, but now that Roman was awake, and Elbbirt hadn’t rushed to sedate him again, Rand was somewhat assured he was going to be okay. With the release of some of that awful tension and in the quiet with just them, the dam broke a little and silent tears tracked her cheeks. She focused on the food. Roman wouldn’t eat if she didn’t.

Roman rubbed her back gently, feeling her stiffen. “He’ll be fine.” And yet, he was thinking of how he could order Randy his own protective detail from here. Then she stood to go to her own bed and Roman very reluctantly let her go. He focused on eating the soup. If he didn’t, Rand would stress about it. But when he looked up, Rand was crying, and he sat up, wanting to go to her, but then stopped. “Miranda, everything will be okay.” He wanted to hug her, to wipe her tears away, but he would have to do that when she was done eating. If he tried to stand, he was sure the monitors would go crazy, Rand would panic, and Shrine would stop him.

Rand dabbed at her cheek with the back of her wrist and gently under her eyes with her ring fingers (like she might be wearing mascara but Rand hardly wore make-up), making her ring catch the light. She took a slow breath making it even and smooth. “I know.” She kind of stared at her meal. Chef was going overboard. He was totally convinced that a good meal could solve anything. Hence why there was Roman’s favorite French Onion soup being served at breakfast. To be ready when he woke up. Her tray had 3 large strawberry crème crepes and an omelet so bit it was falling off the plate on all sides. “Shrine can I give half of this to him?” Shrine looked up and stared at her with a look only a seasoned nurse could give. “Oh come on. He’s had water, juice and all that soup and he’s not keeled over in pain. If I don’t eat all this,” Rand waved her hand over the tray with an already sick over stuffed look on her face, “Randy and Elbbirt will have a fit.” Shrine got up from her seat and walked over to the tray and looked at it like she didn’t believe it was that much food. She picked up a scanning wand and ran it over Alden as if checking his stomach and digestive tract. She smirked, “Yeah, go ahead. But eat slowly Cmdr.” She returned to her seat and some book or article she was reading.
Rand took his food tray and switched it with hers and then she sat down next to him. She kissed his cheek and whispered, “You’re welcome,” with a grin.
