Sentinel had a standard crew compliment of 120. According to the ship records and Rand’s excellent memory they had no visiting personnel or VIPs nor were they evacuating anyone. So the ship compliment should stand at 120. Sentinel records stood at 121. Cursory glances at the roster didn’t immediately tell her what was wrong, or where the extra crew member was. The senior staff was well known so she didn’t think that was the place to start. In all the reading and plays she did someone who was up to no good always stayed in the lower ranks, as servants, the people who tended to be over looked in the grand scheme. But where? If she was after Roman she’d join the science department, he loved his work. But joining security would give them access to weapons.

Rand shuddered, was she really entertaining the idea that someone was going to try and kill Roman? That made her anxious in ways she’d never even imagined.

She pulled up the science department roster and began going through them and the numbers carefully one by one.

Under Science, there were twenty six officers total. One was Roman himself. Then there was Franks, Harvey, and Valos that they’d gone to Kelmao with. Scott was on the list. That took care of four, leaving twenty two more files to check.

Roman was in the lab, working. He wasn’t sure what else to do. Hide in his quarters? On the off-chance someone might try to kill him? It had been morning when they told Rogers about it, and now it was just before lunch. Roman had most of the day to go. Maybe he was rationalising to avoid being afraid, but he felt like it was unlikely they’d go after him. It had been fourteen years, and he was written out of the will, though more than likely no one would know that. It gave him a sense of normalcy to be in the lab like nothing was wrong.
