“I thought I’d leave that up to you,” Roman said as they went down the hall. “Is there anything you want to do today before dinner and dancing?” That was what he’d planned for today, for the morning and early afternoon anyway, to do whatever Rand wanted.

~ Roman

Rand hadn’t really thought about it much, other than she was going to take the day off, no studying, no helping out elsewhere, no computer screens. Oh there was that…”Actually, we have a new movie added to the database.” She grinned. It was something they would both enjoy.

Rand grabbed Roman’s PaDD as soon as she walked in the door. She searched through the database and then set the PaDD up so they could watch and then curled up against him on the bed. The movie was Inferno, the third and last of the Robert Langdon movies.

Rand

Roman settled into bed with her. The movie was the last of the DaVinci movies and when Roman saw the name he smiled. “We got Inferno in the ship database?” When they were ready, he pressed play to let the movie start.

~ Roman

Rand grinned, “I might have requested it.” That was the last thing either said, until the end of the movie. Rand loved it. The characters were rich and detailed, the plot challenging, and enough action to be engaging rather than pedantic. Due to a late breakfast and the length of the movie, they completely missed lunch. Rand wouldn’t mind spending all her days off like that, with Roman.

Rand

Roman had given her a little kiss when she said she suggested it, and then sat quietly for the rest of the movie. By the time it was over, it was past lunch. “Do you want to get something to eat or just wait till dinner?” He asked after the movie was over. He smiled, “Or we could do that dancing we’ve planned for today?”

~ Roman

“I can wait till dinner, unless you’re hungry?” Roman skipped too many meals because he wasn’t hungry for Rand to not jump at a meal if he said he was hungry. Rand sat up, her smile making her eyes dance. “I will never say no to dancing with you. If I do, you will know something is very very wrong.”

Rand

Roman shook his head and smiled. “I can wait for dinner.” Even if he was hungry, he’d rather wait for shepherd’s pie. Then he stood and started the dance music, holding out a hand for her. “Then hopefully I never ever have to hear you say no.”

~ Roman

Rand slipped her hand into his and stood, the skirt of her dress falling with a soft swish into place. She put her other hand on his shoulder as she stepped closer and Roman began to lead her around the room. Butterflies and warmth spread through her not because she was nervous, but because she loved dancing with Roman. It never made her nervous, she just liked being close this close to him, with his arm around her. “I love you.”

Rand

Roman placed his hand on her hip and led her around the room. It was a small space for dancing, but doable if he was careful. He smiled when she said she loved him, and in a short still moment, he leaned in and kissed her.

~ Roman

The short still moment turned into a long warm moment that ended the same way it started - dancing. The space was small, but it just meant that they had to stay closer as they moved around - turns, spins, dios, but no room for lifts. That was okay with Rand. Dancing was no longer about steps and choreography, but about the way they moved together, finding their own rhythm.

Rand

It was more about being close to Rand and dancing with her than it was about the actual dance for Roman and he liked it that way. Eventually though, the music stopped and their dance slowed to a stop. When it did, Roman pulled her into a hug. “I love you so much,” he said softly to her.

~ Roman

Rand’s arms slipped around his shoulders hugging him tightly, her head tucked into his shoulder. It was warm and safe and calming. “I love you too.” She was in no hurry to move, and she let out a soft content sigh. Who would have thought Roman Alden was so romantic? “Still my favorite thing.”

Rand

Roman was not in any hurry to move either. His head resting gently against hers, he kept his arms tightly around her, his hand moving back and forth on her back. “Good, then I don’t have to let go.” Eventually he’d have to. There was still a little time before his dinner plans though, about an hour.

~ Roman

They stood there for awhile, neither eager to move. Rand felt at home like she was where she was supposed to be. She hoped she made Roman feel that way too. The time moved on slowly, and eventually they started dancing again, slowly. This time it was much less formal, more swaying while they hugged than dancing.

Rand

It was the same for Roman, there was a feeling of safety and contentment and belonging. It was comfortable and nice. And then they started dancing again, slowly, without separating. Roman found himself excited for the future. He was proposing tonight. He would get to spend the rest of his life like this, assuming nothing bad ever happened. That made him very happy.

~ Roman

That last hour moved slowly, but was over too quickly. Rand was still unaware of what Roman had planned, which was a good thing, no time to worry about it. Rand would be truly happy to spend her life like this, with Roman. She didn’t bring up the future though. She was content and Roman never talked about his family, not much. But enough for her to know that family was a difficult for him, given that most likely Jay and his family were the only one Roman really knew. No need to make it harder for him. She’d also learned that enjoying what she had when she had it was important, after her 18th. It was in total contrast to her anxiety, but she did try. Roman made that easy.

Rand

When the hour ended, and Roman realized what time it was, he let her go, his hand lingering in hers for a moment. “It’s time for dinner. Are you ready?” He still needed the ring. He’d just claim he forgot something once they were out in the hall and come back. Unless he was really lucky she’d need a minute in the bathroom or something.
