Roman just liked making plans and doing something nice every once in a while. And he saw the value in having a formal “date” time. So he did, occasionally, make plans just because, like a date. “Observation deck, 1700 hours. The ship will be passing a prime star, burns blue. We’ll have dinner there, it’ll be nice.” He told her. “And maybe before then… A little dance, in our quarters, if you like?”~ Roman
The observation deck would probably be packed with people wanting to see the prime star, but that was okay. The windows were large enough to give everyone a clear view. Rand didn’t have to say anything, the smile and the way her eyes lit up made it obvious she loved that idea. She loved dancing with Roman and if she had her way they would every day, but it was all the more meaningful because they couldn’t. “I would love that.” Rand might have eaten a little faster than normal. There was no reason to rush, dinner was hours away, but she was excited.
Rand
Roman could tell she liked the idea and that made him happy. He finished his food slightly after her. He wasn’t going to tell her just yet that the deck would be empty… He would let that be part of the surprise. He’d always hated dancing, before knowing her. Now, as long as he was dancing with her, he loved it, and he was excited.

Rand collected her tray to return it. “Should we check on Mushu and Nibbles since we are down here?” Nibbles was technically volunteer work. Rand wasn’t supposed to be attached. Nibbles was supposed to be attached to Rand, not the other way around. Rand took her responsibility to the tiny Atravian mouse very seriously. Only Rand, would want to visit lab animals on her day off.
Rand
Roman nodded. “We can go see them.” Originally, it had been a way to spend more time with her, but over time her addition to the lab notes had been very helpful. He knew she really enjoyed her time with the little mouse, though he wasn’t sure what he’d do when the time came to part ways with the mouse. Rand was quite attached.
The lab was quiet, there were a few lab techs doing their work, with various pieces of equipment in front of them. Franks was handling the daily feeding and cleaning of the animals.

Rand knew that eventually Nibbles would leave the ship. She also knew that Roman would do his best to find a sanctuary for her. Rand would miss her, but her biggest concern was that Nibbles seemed to react negatively when Rand missed her visits. She was worried Nibbles wouldn’t get depressed and stop eating if she didn’t find someone to bond with. But that was a worry for another day.
Franks was in the lab and was privy to the fact there was some kind of surprise going on and he just shook his head watching Rand and Alden walk in, on their day off, because of the lab animals.
Rand spent the next half hour playing with the mouse, and no matter what anyone else said, she was playing and enjoying it.
Rand
Roman spent the same amount of time playing with Mushu. He had the little lizard on his shoulder again. He’d rarely so openly just play with the lizard but today was special. After a while he set Mushu back in the enclosure, closed the top, made a few notes, and then went over to Rand.

Nibbles had decided that Rand needed very little grooming that day, so Rand was pulling the sleeve off when Roman walked over. She locked the lid, jotted the last of her observations, put the food away, and then washed her hands. Pipkin didn’t seem to like the smell of the mouse on her. Then they left the lab. “What did you want to do, today?”
Rand
“I thought I’d leave that up to you,” Roman said as they went down the hall. “Is there anything you want to do today before dinner and dancing?” That was what he’d planned for today, for the morning and early afternoon anyway, to do whatever Rand wanted.

Rand hadn’t really thought about it much, other than she was going to take the day off, no studying, no helping out elsewhere, no computer screens. Oh there was that…”Actually, we have a new movie added to the database.” She grinned. It was something they would both enjoy.
Rand grabbed Roman’s PaDD as soon as she walked in the door. She searched through the database and then set the PaDD up so they could watch and then curled up against him on the bed. The movie was Inferno, the third and last of the Robert Langdon movies.
Rand
Roman settled into bed with her. The movie was the last of the DaVinci movies and when Roman saw the name he smiled. “We got Inferno in the ship database?” When they were ready, he pressed play to let the movie start.
