“I can’t thank you enough for this.” Roman took the ring boxes and slipped them into his pocket. Rand did not go looking through his things, he knew, so it would be easy enough to hide them in his violin case until he was ready. Then he could surprise her with them. He could tell something was off about Randy, he did not seem his usual self. Now perhaps that was because he was here for a serious reason - but knowing Randy, typically he’d have made several jokes or sarcastic comments about Roman marrying Rand. Probably about how nervous Roman was about the proposal, even knowing there was little chance she’d turn him down. He shook his head in response to Randy’s question. “Are you alright? You seem… Unlike yourself.”

~ Roman

Randy picked up his glass and looked down at the amber liquid, but it down with a curse and leaned, almost too far, back in the chair and snagged a water out of the refrigeration unit. He twisted the cap off and guzzled about half the bottle. Then he pointed a finger at Alden, “Heart ache sucks. Rejection is worse. Which is why if I didn’t know 120% she’ll says yes, I wouldn’t let you do it.” Then Randy grinned, “Though she’s libal to freeze and forget what she’s,” and he held up his fingers making ‘air quotes’, “supposed to say. Like it’s hard.” Then he shrugged, “I’m being maudlin. Ignore me.”

Randy

Roman smiled, Rand would definitely do that and it would be cute, in a Rand sort of way. “I suppose I’ll leave you to it, then. Unless you want someone to talk to.” Not something Roman would normally offer, but Randy had done a lot for him. Roman would be willing to spend an hour listening to his tipsy ramblings.

~ Roman

Oddly enough, Randy took the offer. It wasn’t such an usual story. Boy meets Girl, Boy falls in love, Girl leads him on, then drops him like hot pan out of the oven. “What really gets me though, the guy she ended up with is a real piece of work and treated her like crap. I would have made her happy. Ach cha bhiodh sinn air a chèile a dhèanamh toilichte. (But we would not have made each other happy.)” He tipped the water bottle back again, “But it sucks to be a gentleman and have to keep your promises. Especially when she has decided she made a mistake.” He shrugged, “I feel for her, and it dredges up a lot, but that ship sailed and is gone.”

Randy

Roman listened as he talked, telling the story. It almost sounded like something Jay would do, except Jay had been more of a casual dater. He hadn’t settled down with anyone just yet. But Roman took a silent deep breath, he wasn’t going to think about that now. “Sounds like it’s better for both of you that it didn’t happen. I’m sorry it happened, though.” He commented when Randy had finished telling it.

Randy shrugged, “It happens, part of life. I’ll live. She might not though if Rand ever finds out.” Randy snickered. “The idea of Rand actually throwing a punch and biting something, instead of it being something corriographed makes me laugh.”

Randy

Roman nodded to that, Rand was no fighter. It was something he intended to fix, though he hadn’t yet gotten around to it. Perhaps it was time he taught her that self defense he’d been meaning to… The idea that something might happen to her on a landing party especially not knowing any hand to hand or self defense, was always a worry to him. “I can always do her butt kicking for her.” Roman commented, grinning. It was nearly as laughable as Rand hitting someone, Roman never would, unless he had to, in defense of himself or someone else.

~ Roman

Randy snickered, “You’d do it, too. But I just don’t see you beating up my ex-girl friends for Rand.” Though Randy could picture the conversation between his sister and Alden and it made him grin. “But if you want to get those put away, I suggest you do, in case my ever efficient sister gets done early.”

Randy

Roman nodded and stood. “I know where to put them. No matter how many times I tell her it’s her space too she still acts like an intruder in my space. Where I put them, she won’t go looking,” he said. “Don’t go drinking too much,” he said as he left, heading into his own quarters.

It didn’t take long to put the rings away. He pulled his violin case out, unzipping the upper pocket, made to store sheet music or other accessories. He made space and stored the rings inside. The only other things in the pocket were the things for the violin that one would typically find in a case, and his photo of himself and Jay. He spent a short moment looking at that photo before he slipped it back into the pocket, zipped it up, and put the violin back in the bottom of the closet. Then he grabbed his PaDD and sat on the bed, waiting for Rand.

Roman wasn’t even really settled to read when Rand walked in the door. When her gaze landed on him she broke out in a smile. Just being near him made her happy, made her want to smile for no other reason than he was there. “You got done early, today.” Roman was usually still in the lab, not because he was behind on his work or that busy, he just liked it. It was rare that he left the lab before her shift was over.

She set her PaDD on the desk and then set her personal comm on the table next to the bed, and locked her key rods in the drawer. Then she grabbed clothes and went into the bathroom, coming back a few minutes later, looking more relaxed in civilian clothing, and put her uniform away.
