“I can’t thank you enough for this.” Roman took the ring boxes and slipped them into his pocket. Rand did not go looking through his things, he knew, so it would be easy enough to hide them in his violin case until he was ready. Then he could surprise her with them. He could tell something was off about Randy, he did not seem his usual self. Now perhaps that was because he was here for a serious reason - but knowing Randy, typically he’d have made several jokes or sarcastic comments about Roman marrying Rand. Probably about how nervous Roman was about the proposal, even knowing there was little chance she’d turn him down. He shook his head in response to Randy’s question. “Are you alright? You seem… Unlike yourself.”

Randy picked up his glass and looked down at the amber liquid, but it down with a curse and leaned, almost too far, back in the chair and snagged a water out of the refrigeration unit. He twisted the cap off and guzzled about half the bottle. Then he pointed a finger at Alden, “Heart ache sucks. Rejection is worse. Which is why if I didn’t know 120% she’ll says yes, I wouldn’t let you do it.” Then Randy grinned, “Though she’s libal to freeze and forget what she’s,” and he held up his fingers making ‘air quotes’, “supposed to say. Like it’s hard.” Then he shrugged, “I’m being maudlin. Ignore me.”

Roman smiled, Rand would definitely do that and it would be cute, in a Rand sort of way. “I suppose I’ll leave you to it, then. Unless you want someone to talk to.” Not something Roman would normally offer, but Randy had done a lot for him. Roman would be willing to spend an hour listening to his tipsy ramblings.

Oddly enough, Randy took the offer. It wasn’t such an usual story. Boy meets Girl, Boy falls in love, Girl leads him on, then drops him like hot pan out of the oven. “What really gets me though, the guy she ended up with is a real piece of work and treated her like crap. I would have made her happy. Ach cha bhiodh sinn air a chèile a dhèanamh toilichte. (But we would not have made each other happy.)” He tipped the water bottle back again, “But it sucks to be a gentleman and have to keep your promises. Especially when she has decided she made a mistake.” He shrugged, “I feel for her, and it dredges up a lot, but that ship sailed and is gone.”

Roman listened as he talked, telling the story. It almost sounded like something Jay would do, except Jay had been more of a casual dater. He hadn’t settled down with anyone just yet. But Roman took a silent deep breath, he wasn’t going to think about that now. “Sounds like it’s better for both of you that it didn’t happen. I’m sorry it happened, though.” He commented when Randy had finished telling it.
