“A chemistry project. All that math and all those elements,” Roman swirled a finger in the air, “I could swear I can still see them going about my head.” He picked the cheeseburger as well. “New officers are always good,” he commented to her other statement.

Rand grinned, “Better you than me. It confuses me just trying to transcribe it for the reports.” Rand had a solid grasp of basic chemistry, what it was, how it worked, how to work equations, but the level the labs were working on was far above her. Maybe that’s what she should do? Look into learning more about chemistry? That was a thought for later though. “New officers are always good. Lt Anders will be busy with so many new officers.” Rand found an empty table and sat down. She still didn’t like being around so many people, but at this time of the evening the galley was less crowded than usual.

Roman smiled and shook his head. “Some days it confuses me. Chemistry is a very different field from biology.” He commented as he sat down with her. Then he nodded again. “He will. Two new recruits in a week. He’s got a lot to do, I’m sure.” He smiled at her as he took a bite of his burger.

The next day was as equally busy, but instead of orientations, Rand was either in medical with Haadok or in her office studying. When she wasn’t running errands and tasks for the captain of course. Or the thousands of other things she helped out with. Rand remembered to set a timer and adhere to it though. She didn’t need to create another migraine from staring at the computer too long. It wasn’t like, after two years, she was used to cramming for finals in the Academy anymore.

It was during his lunch that Roman went looking for Randy, intent on asking him a few questions about all this proposal business. He wanted to do it at a time when Rand would just think he wasn’t in the lab because had something else to do, and sometimes he did miss lunch so that was what he picked. He still wouldn’t go into medical looking for Randy, so when he did his usual trick of summoning him by communicator, he asked Randy to meet him in his CSO office.
