Roman waited for him, standing just outside the door. When Randy handed him the hypo, he held it like it might bite him or something. At Randy’s comment he grinned. Darn, he really had been looking forward to that. “Too bad. Thanks,” he said, and then he headed back to his own quarters with Rand, still holding the hypo like it was going to hurt him or something. “Randy isn’t coming so he can’t say anything to get himself hit, but he gave me this to give you,” He said.

“Knew he had smarts somewhere.” She mumbled and flopped the pillow out of the way. She cracked her eyes open, and her features softened when she looked at him. “I can do it if you don’t want to.” Rand didn’t like taking meds when they weren’t necessary, but as a rule she wasn’t against them. She just didn’t like sedatives and having to stay overnight in sickbay.

Rand

Roman sat down on the bed by her and shook his head. “I can do it for you.” He wasn’t the one taking it, it shouldn’t be a problem. But it did bother him a bit. He’d rather make himself get over it than make Rand do it herself. He gently pressed the hypo to her neck, like Randy had said, until there was that standard soft hiss as it dispensed the medicine. “There, see?” That wasn’t so hard, he added the last part to himself, for himself.

~ Roman

Rand sighed as the medicine dispensed and moved her head before he moved away, the intent to kiss his hand, but got his forearm instead. Why? Simply because. “Thank you.” It didn’t take long for the medicine to start working. It was obvious when the corners of her eyes relaxed and the frown line between them disappeared. Then it got her neck and back, and even though she didn’t move at all she seemed less stiff.

Rand

Roman smiled as her lips made contact with his forearm. He set the used hypo down on the side table and continued to rub her shoulders and her back for a while longer, until she looked more relaxed and not so stiff. Then he lay down beside her, his arm around her.

~ Roman

Rand fell asleep some time before Roman laid down. She was blissfully unaware of what Roman was thinking or that Randy had started it. Or that Roman was experiencing his own version of anxiety. She half woke up once her head feeling like a strained muscle that was sore but not painful. Her eyes refused to open so she fell back asleep quickly with Roman’s arm around her. When her alarm went off, she felt much better, but she laid there for awhile, fighting to wake up all the way.

Rand

Roman spent most of the night thinking about what Randy said. It helped in a way, having his arm wrapped around Rand, cuddled in close to her. Why not sooner than later? What exactly was he waiting for? And if it would give Rand certainty… Yes, it would freak her out, but it seemed like it would be better for her once it was said and done. Finally he fell asleep, and he was asleep when her alarm went off, the noise failing to wake him.

~ Roman

Rand finally pulled herself from the clutches of sleep. Roman was still asleep and there was no way she was going to wake him up. A good run down on deck 6 usually helped her wake up, but she wasn’t sure her head would appreciate it. She opted for a rather indulgent shower. She opted for a loose braid rather than the tight bun she usually wore. As silently as possible she collected her things and the hypo, and slipped out the door. She returned the hypo to Randy just as quietly and made her way down to the Galley for toast, eggs and really strong black tea. She had several people she wanted to talk to that day.

Rand

Roman’s alarm went off at 0600. He’d nearly forgotten he had one, he usually woke up to Rand’s. But he most not have, because she was already gone. And that was just a bit sad, because that meant he’d missed his favorite part of the morning: kissing her before she left to start her shift. He got up and got ready and headed straight to the lab, there by 0700. During his work, he considered how he should propose. He’d apparently decided over the long night that he was going to. It should be a surprise, he figured, because he knew she’d say yes, or at least he was 99% sure she would, and it would be harder on him but easier on her. Then he’d have to pick a ring and decide when, where, and how. A daunting but surely doable task.

IC:
Rand lingered in the Galley. One of her favorite times of the morning. She and Roman usually had breakfast in the Galley if they had gone running in the morning. But 0600 came and she started her rounds. She enjoyed the familiarity of the ship, the routine of making her way each morning to pick up the reports, to have her finger on the pulse of the ship, as it were. To talk to the crew and be able to inform Rogers or Alden of any needs or concerns. To be useful. Then to circle her way back to deck 9 and the biology lab around 0700

Technically she didn’t have to be here. She only had to pick up the dept and XO reports, but she loved the lab. Setting a cup of hot tea on the desk and the reports next to him, Rand sat down in what had become her work station. “Good morning Cmdr.” She logged into the console to begin compiling the CO reports for the morning. Rand never wasted time with idleness, making use of whatever time she had.

Once the computer started on the task she set it, she rolled up her sleeve, slipped the spare one on that was kept under Nibbles’ cage and went to feed the tiny Alterian mouse.

Rand

Roman enjoyed that she did stay, though he knew she didn’t have to. She also usually helped with his reports, he hated paperwork. “Morning,” Roman said to her, grabbing the reports and adding them to his stack of work he was currently working through. The paperwork would take him several hours. He was still thinking about his proposal plans. Something private, to be sure. The observation deck, but kept empty, maybe. He wanted to ask Randy what kind of ring she’d like. He could have a look at the jewelry she already owned but… He preferred Randy’s opinion.

~ Roman

Rand bit the inside of her cheek to stop from grinning. Roman hated paperwork and it appeared he had more than normal this morning. She didn’t mind helping, it was one of her tasks/skills/jobs to assist the command team however she could. Granted she wasn’t required to help the XO since she answered only to Rogers. But she liked helping and even if they weren’t dating, Rand still would have helped. That thought did make her grin. If she hadn’t been willing to help she and Roman would have never really gotten to know each other.

The computer beeped, but Rand didn’t return right away. Nibbles had ahold of her hand ‘grooming’ it again. If Rand left now, before Nibbles was done, the mouse seemed agitated most of the day. So she waited and used her other hand to scatter and bury some of the nuts and berries she liked around the enclosure.”

Rand

Roman was distracted from his paperwork, watching her. She really was perfect for him. Loved his job nearly as much as he did, didn’t mind him talking about it all the time or staying to finish things. Helped him with the few parts he didn’t like, all this paperwork. His look was not quite his robin hood look, but something similar, certainly one of love and adoration. Normally he’d try not to look at her like that, not in the lab, but honestly between the proposal plans and his thoughts he hadn’t realized he was doing it.

~ Roman

Nibbles was taking an awfully long time with her little ritual. Rand reached across herself for the note pad kept next to her cage and jotted down her observations and what she’d done with the mouse that morning. The lab seemed quieter, a bit empty this morning. It took Rand a minute to realize it was Mr. Wyvern’s absence. There was always the soft sliding of scales when he moved. He’d also not lunged at her when she came in that morning. She honestly hadn’t thought she would miss it.

She glanced around the lab, while she attempted to be patient with Nibbles, and her gaze landed on Roman. Why was he looking at her like that? She flushed hotly, not expecting it. They were in the lab and on duty! He never did that. Oh no....was he sick? She didn’t think so. She ducked her head (but with her hair pulled back it didn’t help) and almost fell off the stool turning back around. She stood up to cover her clumsiness. That wasn’t fair, he wasn’t allowed to change the rules. Why was he looking at her like that, here?

It was time for Nibbles to stop. She needed to get her work done. That’s what she was supposed to be doing. She reached over for one of Nibbles’ favorite berries, an oval shaped pinkish orange one, and stuck it in front of her nose. Nibbles grabbed it and ran off with it. Rand closed and locked the lid, removed the sleeve and then went to wash her hands.

Rand

Rand caught him looking and by her expression, he must’ve been giving her one of those looks. Embarrassed, he glanced around the lab quickly himself, and then turned back to his paperwork as she washed her hands. He could tell he’d completely flustered her, the way she’d nearly fallen off the stool, ducking her head so her hair, tied back unfortunately for her, would hide her face. It made him feel bad, just a little, but that was outweighed by how cute she’d looked, her cheeks flushing, desperately trying to hide her face. He had to smile to himself into his paperwork.
