A gold ring, or a silver one? Which did Rand prefer? He realized he didn’t even know. Maybe he could find a way to covertly ask. Or simply ask Randy. Would she change her name to match his - Miranda Alden, or would he change his? It wasn’t traditional to do it that way, but he wouldn’t mind, he had no intention of returning to his family and so their thoughts on the matter didn’t have any weight to him. Would things change, between them? Or would they stay largely the same? Randy had pointed out that they were already living together. Roman’s gaze drifted away from her hand and up to her face, taking in her features. There was no doubt he wanted to marry her. He just had never decided when. Or how to ask.

He’d never thought much about marriage, he’d always considered himself too married to his work for a real relationship. Rand had quickly proven that wrong, entirely unexpectedly. He wasn’t sure what he’d want his own wedding to look like. Traditional? His parents would want that, but did he? And how should he propose? He’d simply never thought about it. Nothing public, of course, Rand would hate that, and he didn’t want her to hate it.

Finally Rand spoke, he hadn’t noticed her questioning look, and it shocked him out of his thoughts. “Wh-what? No, no food. Nothing at all. You look lovely, truly. I was… I suppose I was just lost in thought.” He replied, hoping she didn’t pry further. He didn’t want to bring it up with her before he was ready.

Rand nodded. They weren’t talking about anything medical so Rand had absolutely no reason to think that Roman was avoiding or hiding something. She flushed a pale shade of pink when he said she looked lovely. It was pajamas, she wasn’t sure about that, but she wasn’t going to argue with him over it. “Did Mr Wyvern get transferred?” She’d missed the whole thing. Less out of sentimentality and more because her presence seemed to provoke the snake and she didn’t want to do that while they were moving him. It didn’t take long before Rand was putting very little effort into eating. It wasn’t that it wasn’t good or she wasn’t hungry. She was just too tired to put the effort into it, and a rather noticeably loud yawn escaped her and she put her fork down and shook her head. She rubbed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I think I better go to bed.”

Rand

“He did, he’s gone now,” Roman seemed sad about that, but he was hiding it, like he always did. “I asked the sanctuary to update us in a few months, said my girlfriend grew attached to him.” It was true, though he looked forward to hearing back as well. He finished off his food and when she stopped eating he set the tray aside to take it down later. “Alright. You look exhausted anyway.” He stood and sat on the bed. “I can take the tray down in a little while, or tomorrow.”

Rand made a momentary pout, but it was best for Mr Wyvern. He would have a much bigger habitat to live in and even get to hunt a little. He might even grow some. Rand did grin at him though, teasing, “Now Roman....wha…yawn…what would you do if you didn’t have a girlfriend to blame it on?” She got up a little too fast for the pounding headache and had to blink things clear before she walked. She really had to remember not to stay in front of the computer for so long. It struck her as odd for a moment that the headache was so bad after just one day of it, but then again it had been a long time since she’d spent a whole day in front of the computer without a break.

She moved around to her side of the bed and sat down. “Pipkin, I adore you baby, but move,” and she shooed the little bunny out of the way so she could lay down.

Rand

Roman shrugged easily. “Do what I always did. Get over it, eventually.” He waited until she lay down and began to massage her shoulders and her back again. It was obvious to him she was in pain, and he knew it was only because of the computer, his shoulders often were sore and he often had headaches for the same reason, but he still hated to see her deal with it. “I could get Randy, I’m sure there’s something he can give you, just to take the edge out of the pain,” Roman commented, still rubbing her shoulders and her back.

~ Roman

She knew Randy had something he could give her. And it wouldn’t be a sedative, anti-inflammatory or something like that. It wouldn’t make her late for shift in the morning. But to let him go get Randy or let him stay and keep massaging her shoulders, because that was heavenly. With a muffled groan she realized it was also as likely the headache would wake her up later. “oh…ay” was the muffled response and then she turned her head out of the pillow, “okay. I’m nae gettin’ up though. And if he starts whining about us snogging I may hit him again.” Then she tugged her pillow out from under her head and put it over her head to block out the light.

Rand

Roman nodded, rubbed her shoulders for another short minute, and then stood from the bed. “I’ll be right back.” He smiled at her comment, he was sure Randy would have something to say about snogging and he looked forward to watching her hit him again. He went over to Randy’s quarters and knocked. When Randy answered he explained why he was there.

Randy quirked a brow. “What did she do, sit hunched over her computer and PaDD all day without a break?” That was exactly what she had done, that was the only thing that gave Rand headaches like that. Oh she could get some pretty bad ones but with the eyes and it going down her back Randy knew what she’d done…or in the case also not done. He walked over to the desk and lifted his med kit to the top and flipped it open. He took out the hypo and ran his finger over the different medications until he found what he was looking for. He popped it in and brought it over. “Here. It’s not a sedative but when the pain relief kicks in it might be enough to make her fall asleep. Give it in the neck. I’m not going in there if she’s ready for bed. I’ll say something and get hit again.”

Randy

Roman waited for him, standing just outside the door. When Randy handed him the hypo, he held it like it might bite him or something. At Randy’s comment he grinned. Darn, he really had been looking forward to that. “Too bad. Thanks,” he said, and then he headed back to his own quarters with Rand, still holding the hypo like it was going to hurt him or something. “Randy isn’t coming so he can’t say anything to get himself hit, but he gave me this to give you,” He said.

~ Roman

“Knew he had smarts somewhere.” She mumbled and flopped the pillow out of the way. She cracked her eyes open, and her features softened when she looked at him. “I can do it if you don’t want to.” Rand didn’t like taking meds when they weren’t necessary, but as a rule she wasn’t against them. She just didn’t like sedatives and having to stay overnight in sickbay.

Rand

Roman sat down on the bed by her and shook his head. “I can do it for you.” He wasn’t the one taking it, it shouldn’t be a problem. But it did bother him a bit. He’d rather make himself get over it than make Rand do it herself. He gently pressed the hypo to her neck, like Randy had said, until there was that standard soft hiss as it dispensed the medicine. “There, see?” That wasn’t so hard, he added the last part to himself, for himself.
