Roman nodded. He knew Randy was right, Rand knew what she wanted. But an old conversation he’d had with someone else was still bothering him. Until Randy’s comment made him sputter so hard if he’d been drinking tea like he usually was, he’d have spewed it all over Randy. “Do what? We… We haven’t talked about that yet.”~ Roman
Oh that was fun. It would have been worth a tea splattered uniform. But Randy knew what was wrong, what Roman was thinking about. Maybe put him out of his misery. “You know Jenson is the most scatterbrained CO. Might be for show, only met him once. Good chap though. Also, sends Rand an offer at least once a month. Her answer is always the same. She knows where she wants to be, and makes that same decision over and over again.” He tapped his chin, “Maybe I should have started with that. And the real question is, what are you waiting for?”
Randy
An offer a month? “Why didn’t she tell me?” Roman said, and then he gave Randy a look. “Maybe you should’ve started with that? Maybe?” That might’ve helped. “I… I don’t know. I figured I’d ask when we were both ready.” Roman answered with a shrug. “I’m not sure when I thought that would be.”

“Probably because she doesn’t even think about it. She tells him no, what to do about his problem, and goes on to the next report. It is insignificant to her.” Randy shrugged. It would have made Roman feel better immediately if he had said but then Alden wouldn’t have talked. Randy’s foot fell to the floor and he sat forward. “You should think about it. Considering how the idea of not seeing her affects you, and it was only a possibility in your head. Besides it never hurts Rand to know she’s right where she belongs.”
Randy
Roman nodded again, looking much more relaxed. Rand wasn’t going anywhere… Had no plans of it. Roman had worked himself up over nothing. He still worried. A starbase was safer than a starship and if she took it that would make him feel better. With her here, if something ever happened to her… Roman had to stop thinking about that. He chuckled softly at Randy’s comment. “I don’t think I could sleep without her there anymore. I can’t imagine her not being there. But… If I ask her and she’s not ready for that she’ll freak out. I don’t want to do that to her.”
~ Roman
Randy chuckled, “That girl is going to freak out whether she’s ready or not. She doesn’t know how to not freak out. Unless she’s studied it, analyzed it, practiced and run the lines. It will be nothing she has ever prepared for. It will be awesome!” Now in general Randy thought unexpected experiences and having to deal with them were good for Rand. This particular one would be as well, but she’d be so stinkin’ happy and nervous and speechless and giddy Randy could see it and it made him laugh a little harder. But then sobered a bit, “Seriously though, I’m not going to push you into something, but when and if you decide that’s what you want consider this. Rand is already living with you and all that entails, you have a good routine, and she’s comfortable. As much as it goads me to admit, you’re better for her anxiety than I ever will be, and I’m her twin. The only thing that would really change for her is having certainty.” Randy did an incredible impression of Rand: tone, inflection, even the twisting of her hands in her lab, “Knowing she’s not going to ‘mess up’ or ‘do something wrong’ or, my favorite, ‘not do what I’m suppose to do’. She’s gonna freak out, but it will be good.”
Randy
Roman chuckled softly and shook his head. “Passively better, maybe, but there are a lot of things you can do for her anxiety that I can’t.” Randy’s impression of Rand made Roman grin, they really were twins. “I’ll think about it.” The idea made him nervous, not because he wasn’t sure he wanted to, he did, but because he was worried about Starfleet separating them, because as a married couple she couldn’t serve under him, which technically she didn’t now but what if he made Captain? Another, unrelated thought occured to him. If he married Rand, Randy would be his… brother in law. That… rubbed Roman the wrong way for some reason. Randy had grown on him, no longer did he think they disliked each other the way they used to (though they’d probably always butt heads), but thinking of him as a brother was… too weird, it almost hurt in a way. Roman couldn’t quite put his finger on why. But it was nothing that would stop him from wanting to marry Rand. That was happening, eventually, no matter what happened. He just had to decide when.

Randy shook his head, “I’m not the one she goes looking for when she’s struggling, not anymore.” Randy did feel sad about that, but it was also a good thing and he wasn’t bitter over it. Randy knew there were other issues Roman was dealing with, and her certainly wasn’t going to push the issue. He’d kind of been joking about Alden proposing to Rand, but the more he thought about it, the more he liked the idea. It wasn’t like their Da was around to give his blessing, that fell on Randy. He was oddly okay with it, even if Alden was English. “Well, I’m going to eat. Unless…” he’d stay and talk however long Alden wanted, the man needed friends. He’d never ever tell Alden he thought of him as a friend…it would ruin the constant head-butting…but it was true either way.
Randy
Roman shook his head, he wasn’t going to hold Randy up. He wouldn’t mind his company but he assumed Randy had things to get back to so he said, “No, go ahead. And… Thank you.” His friendship with Randy was a strange one, but it was certainly there.
