[snip]OOC: Retitling this and moving things ahead!
“It’s not like there’s anyone close enough to even know we’re here.” He said, unsurprised that he hardly heard a thing. At least it told him that no locals were nearby, and that was enough. He smoothed his antennae back with one hand, and pulled his hood back up. Kovan turned around and followed after Rand towards the cave entrance while the rest of the crew finishes their scanning and observations.

Roman was the last to head out, following the team. “Let’s head back to the village. Perhaps there we can find more information. But remember to keep your scanners and phasers hidden!” He said they walked, lowering his voice a bit for the last part.
~ Lt Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO
Putting his tricorder under his cape, Alwyn walked toward the exit with the other, a bit disappointed to have missed an opportunity to study a new species, but quickly he realized that they were going to the village. An opportunity to inspect them closer. Might as well study them in perfect health, he thought. I wonder what the other teams are doing ?
Doctor Alwyn Yarwood - Ensign
Leaving the cave, the team were soon on their way back the way they had come, and following a worn dirt and muddy footpath they soon were on a more rugged but still muddy ‘main road’ of some kind. After almost a mile of trekking on they came within sight of a large town along a lake shore. Much of it was surrounded by 10ft high, 5ft thick stone walls. Atop in places they could see various human men and women patrolling along its tops. Most wore rugged leather patched armor, and were armed with a combination of a crossbow, a composite bow, and/or either a spear or halberd for weapons. They all looked more or less professionally trained in their jobs and most seemed to take their jobs quite seriously.
Rand had dropped back to walk next to Cmdr Alden. “This place is more…protected than Krezk. They had a rougher wall and guards at the gate, but that was it.”
As they came up to the southern entrance to the walled town they were stopped in a small line of others entering by a guarded gate. Ahead of them were two more humanoid figures, these though interestingly were not humans in the strictest sense but seemed to be a bit more lithe and shorter then most of the humans around. They wore more forest oriented clothes and colors, as well as better tended leather like armor. They had composite longbows of intricate quality on their persons as well as a short blade on their waist belt. They also carried an assortment of bags likely filled with something or another for trade in the town.
One of the gruff looking gate guards this one seeming of a higher rank then the other humans wore a suit of simple chainmail like armor, but otherwise was armed much like the others. Gruffly and somewhat coldly he searched through the two peoples bags ahead of the team, “..Urgh its you damn fey folks again, come to trade with us NORMAL folks huh? What you got in here??” he said.
The taller of the two lithe figures a man spoke, “..Some medicinal herbs requested by the Sun Cultists, as well as furs and meat, mainly squirrel, bear and wolf..” he said.
Seeming to find what was said the gruff man shoved the bag roughly back to the man, “..Bah, fine, guess you can pass on through, one day you can bet we will find an excuse to hang your fey neck and pointy arse ears..” he said waving the two through who did not comment. It seems these locals did not like outsiders or those who did not fit a certain ‘normal human’ pattern.
She shook her hand, “The guards were more friendly if not bored with their job. We didn’t see any other species while we were there. The Sun Cultists were looked at with disinterest or kind of…quirky and weird, but not really respected. They on the other hand were very friendly and willing to help others. We passed a few farms on the way in, and the overseers didn’t like having strangers around too much.”
The next person in front of the team, was a shorter human man in darker-brown/black leathers and clothes, he carried a a few small bags, and only bore a pair of daggers on his person. Approaching the gruff guard he murmured something that the team could not pick up and as they watched a quick exchange of coin went from the shady man to the guard. Without a word the guard waved him through without searching his belongings. It might occur to the team that given they had a few replicated coins based on scans, they might be able to get through with minimal fuss by paying off the guard in a similar way. Or they could take the risk of the guard finding or not finding any of their hidden equipment from the Sentinel.

Rand didn’t think appealing to their compassionate nature and trying to find her lost brother was going to work here. They couldn’t risk their equipment being found, and they did have coin, but it was probably best for her to stay quiet. The guards made her nervous and were intimidating and gruff. Last thing she needed was to start stammering. Of course people like that might enjoy making her uncomfortable and get some sport out of it and then leave her be.
