Roman nodded to the answer. Rand was going to make him eat dinner and just to be extra safe, he could try not to go walking around. She’d be happy he took it and it would fulfill his deal to Rand and night gown here we come. “I can do that. Rand will make me eat anyway. Let’s do it.”~ Roman
Elbbirt looked at him funny. Good day? It must have been a Great day because Alden was agreeing to everything. He was going to have to ask Randy to do an evaluation of Alden. (He knew about Randy’s specialty but nothing about who he had sessions with.) “Alright then.” He did one more scan to make sure there was no extra swelling, injury, or bleeding. Satisfied he dialed in the dosage and gave Alden the medication.
Roman did his best to act pleasantly. He let the doctor do another scan and then give the medication. He still hated hypos. Hadn’t Elbbirt himself said any day he’d spent in the company of a “young woman” would be a great day? He could hope for another great day by fulfilling his side of the deal.
Randy didn’t keep Rand long, and slowly he walked her back, arm around her and knocked on the door.
Rand
Roman called for Rand and and Randy to come in. “There’s nothing else?” He asked Elbbirt as the door opened, looking up at Rand as she came in, his voice purposefully even sweeter than it had been Elbbirt’s entire visit.
~ Roman
Randy walked in, arm around Rand. She was really leaning on him. She’d been crying, and she lifted her head from his shoulder when she saw Elbbirt. She couldn’t hide the fact she’d been crying but she suddenly stood up straight, put an arm around Randy’s waist in a hug, and looked like they had been happy tears. The change was noticable to Roman and Randy only because they knew her. Her gaze settled immediately on Roman. She was supposed to be there with him. All she wanted was to go to Roman and let him hold her, but she waited to make sure the doc was done. The corner of her mouth twitched at the tone in his question. He was trying very hard.
She’d been crying, but Roman expected that. She looked okay and she and Randy looked to be on okay terms and that was important to Roman. He looked relieved to see her.
Elbbirt nodded. That was the shortest visit he’d ever had with the commander. Usually he spent most of his time arguing with him. “That should do it.” He walked over to Randy, lowering his voice, “Randy, something is wrong with the Cmdr,” but wasn’t quite quiet enough and Rand heard as she made her way over to Roman and stopped. Her face drained of all the color and she didn’t breathe for a moment. “He’s out of sorts, being nice, cooperative. I think he may have hit his head harder than we thought.”
Rand was far too relieved Roman was okay to blush over the implication. And still feeling rather wrung out from talking to Randy. She sat down next to Roman, turning her face into him as she put her arms around him.
Randy couldn’t look at Alden, he wanted to, but he couldn’t. It would mortify Rand if she knew he knew about their deal and it would embarrass Alden too. Randy grabbed the left over lunch tray, put a hand on Elbbirt’s shoulder. Randy nodded thoughtfully, “I’ll look into it Old Chap. But I think he’s fine for now. Let’s wait till the concussion is gone before we decide.” The performance was worthy of Rand.
Rand
Roman grinned triumphantly at Rand, he could tell by the drain in colour and then relief that Elbbirt had said something. He was more than glad Elbbirt was done, he seemed to let out a little breath he didn’t know he was holding and not just because he was trying really, very hard to act cooperative and nice. Rand sat down next to him and Roman put his arm around her, pulling her in close.

“Are you okay? I didn’t want to leave,” she had promised to stay with him, “but Randy said you were okay with it.” She kissed his neck, simply because she didn’t lift her head to kiss him; it was a sweet affectionate gesture. “What did Elbbirt say? How long will you be out of work?” She didn’t want to bombard him with questions, but she wanted to know. To know that he was doing better. She didn’t care about the deal right then just that he was doing better.
Rand
“I wanted you two to have time to talk,” Roman replied, laying his head gently against hers. “At least another full day.” He wasn’t going to tell her what Elbbirt said about exercise. It would only make her feel bad and stress her out. “He gave me something for the concussion. To speed the recovery. I’ll just need a little extra sugar.” He didn’t want to go into all the details of what Elbbirt said just to not stress her out but to be safe, she should know to make sure he kept his sugars up.
~ Roman
She sighed into him when he rested his head against her. It was comfortable and felt right. She knew she was very lucky that Roman and Randy got along, at least for her. “Thank you…for telling him. I…I didn’t know how.”
Roman smiled and hugged her a little tighter. “You told him for me once, remember? Twice actually.” Once for the nightmares, and once for the… the disk. He didn’t want to think about that though.
A little worry line appeared between her brows showing her confusion. Not that she didn’t understand what Roman said, but he was being so … so … not Roman. He ate, drank all that water, and was cooperative for Elbbirt. She grinned a little, stubborn man. “What did he say about your hydration? Your blood sugar is okay?” He still has to eat dinner, but she wasn’t going to remind him, yet. One because she was kind of teasing him and two she wanted to stay and sit with him just a bit longer.
Rand
“I think he was a little impressed by my hydration,” Roman grinned. “He said the blood sugar looked good, that’s why he offered the medication where he didn’t earlier.” He already remembered about dinner. He still felt stuffed from lunch. He felt like trying to eat dinner was going to overfill him. So he was putting it off by sitting with her.
~ Roman
Rand grinned, “I’m impressed with your hydration.” She really was, that was a lot of water in a very short amount of time. Rand really wasn’t hungry either, in fact her stomach was all twisted up and would probably protest anything she put in it. She was still upset, still guilty, from talking to Randy. She really was grateful to Roman but she also wished she didn’t have to talk about it. Randy had done exactly what she knew he would do. He wasn’t angry with her because she hadn’t done anything wrong, nor forgave her because she hadn’t done anything to incur the blame. It didn’t help. Randy didn’t push for more though, which wasn’t like him. Instead he’d just hugged her and told her he knew what was wrong and explained she wasn’t to blame and then let her cry. Then he brought her back.
Rand needed to do something. If she sat there in the quiet, warm and comfortable, with his arms around her, she’d doze off. She’d either escape for awhile or have dreams about it. She’d rather neither of those options, instead to stay in the present with Roman. She really didn’t feel the need to do something, she enjoyed the peace and silence, she just didn’t want to doze off. Roman hadn’t wanted to watch another movie because his head hurt, and the music had ended awhile ago. “Have you ever attended a Reader’s Theater?”
