Roman smiled at her and shrugged. “If I took in that much caffeine I might give myself a heart attack.” He put down the empty bottle. It would be worth it, but wow, he almost wished he hadn’t made this deal. That was a lot of water. At the knock at the door, Roman pressed the control for the door, “Come in!”

Outside the door stood Elbbirt. He strolled in, “Ah good. Rand my dear, help me with the tray would you?” Rand got up and prayed Elbbirt wouldn’t say a thing about earlier. She found the request strange though. She looked past him, “Where’s Randy?” She took the tray and moved it to the the table, not even paying attention to what was on it. The older gentleman chuckled, “Something about respecting your privacy. I’m a doctor I have no such concerns.” Rand looked out the door again before it closed. Though she didn’t know what to say to Randy about that morning, she wanted him there, wanted to know he didn’t hate her. She’d even let him tease her about her and Roman, just…

Elbbirt looked at Alden, he looked decent. “How are you feeling Cmdr?”

He was sitting up, his head still hurt like crazy but having eaten and drank tons of water did tend to make one look and feel better. “I’m alright.” He made a deal with Rand. No arguing, no passive aggressiveness. Darn. It was going to be a hard deal to keep.

Rand had turned back around and raised her brow at him. Roman was always polite, but the edge that was usually there when a medical officer was around was gone. Oh he was really trying. She just grinned at him.

Roman shot her his best glare. He really was trying. He was too stubborn not to. That, and when would he get another chance to see the night gown?

“Well Rand, let’s start with you. Let’s go next door, give you some privacy and we’ll make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Hmm?”

Elbbirt

Rand grinned, nothing said she had to go along with it. “Me? What didn’t I do?” Elbbirt looked at her, then at Alden, and back to her. “My dear did you hit your head too?”

“I’m just going to walk the deck while you talk to Rand privately. I’ll be careful and all that, Randy said it would be alright,” Roman said, standing with his hand on the side table. Then he headed out, staying near the wall in case he needed something to lean on. He looked in the Farquharson quarters, then made it down to the galley, then the rec room. No Randy. There was only one more place to look. Roman headed to deck 9, passed by his own labs, and then paused outside of Sickbay. Nope, no way. He wasn’t going in there. He stood off to the side of the door and pulled his communicator off his belt, flipping it open. =C= Alden to Randy. I’m uh, =C= he glanced around. =C= outside of Sickbay. Have a moment to chat? =C=

Randy didn’t even answer the com he just appeared in the corridor next to Alden. He never came looking for Randy so something had to be wrong. “Are you okay? You must be you walked down here. Is Rand okay?”

Randy

“Everyone’s alright, no one’s dying. Or panicking. No, I just wanted to talk about this morning.” Roman said with another quick glance around. Then he explained everything Rand had told him that morning after Randy left, keeping his voice down so they weren’t overheard.

Randy nodded and let out a little breath he was holding. Rand was okay, Alden was okay. He was leaning against the wall but he looked better, but decided he didn’t want to ask why. When Roman said what he wanted to talk about Randy motioned a bit further down the corridor away from the busy entrance to Sickbay. He even stopped him once as a crew member. When Roman finished, Randy had to lean against the wall for support. He didn’t care if it wasn’t the masculine way to act. He felt like he’d been sucker punched in the gut, and his hands shook for a moment. 17 years Rand had been walking around with this. He didn’t even have to wonder why Rand didn’t tell him. He knew how she thought even if it didn’t make sense. “She was always so shy, timid, and serious. I always knew that her anxiety and everything that went with it was cemented by his first heart attack. But this…wait, wait her a minute.” Randy disappeared back inside sickbay and returned a few short minutes later. “I need to talk to her.”

Randy

“She was upset just talking about it.” He said. He almost said it reminded him of himself, and then he decided against it. Roman waited for him, and then nodded. “I’m headed back up anyway. Elbbirt will be waiting… I made a deal with her.” He made a face, and then turned to head back towards his quarters.

Randy followed Roman to the lift, and after it started Randy turned to him. “You made a deal…with Rand? About Elbbirt?”

Elbbirt started with a basic scan, and the readings were more than enough to tell him how Rand had spent her afternoon. “How are you feeling? Your blood pressure and heart rate were very concerning the other day. It stayed slightly higher than normal for the rest of the day. And it appears that you, shall we say, engaged in exercise this afternoon.”

Rand thought she would die, “I feel fine, Dr. Really. You…you have my file. It was just some anxiety, that’s all…really…” She knew he was a doctor but she really didn’t want to have this conversation. Elbbirt nodded, “Yes, yes. I know all about that. It’s a horrible thing to struggle with, but it does have some serious physical consequences.” Rand looked at her hands, “I know. I also know part of my ability to stay is to monitor my health. I worked hard to prove I was fine so the Academy would take me. I’m not being reckless. I promise.” The exam continued and Elbbirt was mostly satisfied. He also noticed that her pulse rate was going up when they talked. Especially when he reminded her to make a certain appointment with Nurse Temple. “Now, young lady, I am a doctor, you know nothing will shock me. Do you have any questions or…” Rand stood up, she was going to hide in the bathroom again. “No! I’m good, promise, no questions here, not at all.”

She was saved by the door opening. Rand was beat red and Elbbirt looked like a long suffering grandparent.
