“We already agreed on six. You want to make me drink more, you’ll have to add something to your end.” Roman was smiling, still teasing her. “Like wearing it to bed, instead of just letting me see.”They had not agreed on six, they agreed on however much she wanted him to drink, but then she had said till he was fully hydrated. But she wasn’t going to argue that point with him. His head hurt and she didn’t want to confuse him by arguing the point. Add something to her end..wait…what? “Changing out of it was an option??” Rand had not considered being that sneaky. She was going to have to think like she was making a deal with Randy. Her free hand tugged at the belt on her robe. She might have to wear it, but didn’t mean she couldn’t wear something else over it…she grinned.
The way she fiddled with the belt of the bathrobe and that smile told Roman he was walking right into a trap. He might’ve normally caught it right away, today it took him a moment of thought. “And if I don’t argue with whatever Elbbirt says, you lose the robe and wear the gown all night.”
Rand laughed, “Roman, you can’t go against your own nature. It is hard wired into your personality to argue with doctors.” She bit her lip and her eyes danced, “But sure I can loose the robe.” She had all kinds of things she could wear over that nightgown. The fact she agreed so quickly was telling.
“It’s a high reward.” Roman countered. She agreed way too quickly. Roman missed something, he knew it. “Nothing over the gown, Miranda.”
Rand flushed, so much for that trick, “And they said a concussion would make you confused.” Then she laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Okay, Roman. You don’t argue with Elbbirt nothing over the gown. And no passive aggressive arguing either. He tells you to do it you still have to even after he leaves.”
Roman made a face. “Alright. No arguing, no passive aggressive avoiding his orders, and you wear only the gown.”
“Alright, deal, but you still have to finish the water and eat all your dinner.” If he made it through all of that it’d be worth wearing it. But if not all these details wouldn’t matter much.
Rand took the PaDD off of the bed, and took the dishes, stacking them, and the empty water bottles. Then she sat at the computer. She knew Roman played classics and maybe he wasn’t in the mood for that but she decided to put on her favorite - Fall from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Then she sat on the edge of the bed and took his hand. “Are you okay?”
Rand
Roman squeezed her hand gently and smiled. “I’ll be fine. My head just hurts. The ice pack should help, I think.” He grabbed the fourth water bottle off the table. “Elbbirt should be back…” He looked at the clock. It had been way more than a half hour. “Eventually.”
~ Roman
Rand turned and glanced at the clock. Half an hour was gone awhile ago. HA! She was going to win this one. It was late afternoon now. Roman would not want to eat when the dinner tray came. “Yes he will, so…” she leaned in and kissed him before she got up. She pulled out clothes, not the nightgown, and headed for the bathroom.
Rand
Roman chugged the fourth bottle. Four to go. He felt like he was going to explode with water. Then he kissed her as she got up. “I’ll be done with two more waters before you’re back.” He said.
~ Roman
She looked back at him, “Roman you’ll make yourself sick drinking it that fast.” She wasn’t intending on taking that long. She wasn’t one of those that took forever to get ready. But she did take a little longer than normal, because she didn’t want him to make himself sick. She ended up just sitting in there for a few minutes staring at the wall until finally she decided it was ridiculous. He didn’t need to chug the water that fast and came out, wearing a long full skirt and off the shoulder blouse. It was comfortable and that’s all Rand cared about. “You finish those two bottles?” she was teasing and challenging him a bit.
Rand
Roman had finished a bottle and a half by the time she came out. But he’d chugged so much water, he was starting to really need the restroom himself. “You said eight for the day. I had two this morning, that means this half…” He held it up dramatically, “is the last half.”
~ Roman
Rand stood there looking at him, jaw slack. Did he hit his head hard enough to change his personality? What was going on? Then she started counting in her head, one at lunch, two right after, one while they talked, and then these two. That was 6. She crossed her arms like she just won. “Two at breakfast? That doesn’t count. That was before we made that deal.”
Rand
“You said eight for the day. The two at breakfast count.” Roman smiled, confident he was winning. Then he started to get up, his hand on the side table for support. He didn’t seem quite as dizzy as before but he definitely still was. He was only in the bathroom for a few minutes before he came back out, sat down, and finished off the last water bottle.
~ Roman
“I…I did, didn’t I.” Rand had seriously miscalculated what Roman was going to be stubborn about. She glanced at the half empty bottle, as he got up. He wasn’t nearly as dizzy, or didn’t appear to be. She threw the now used up ice pack away and got out another one for him. She looked around and found Pipkin playing in the maze Roman had set up for her. She picked the little Rabbit up and sat down with her in her lap. “I think I might be in trouble, Pipkin.” The little rabbit looked up at her, then using a front paw, grabbed one of her ears and began to groom it. Rand grinned and shook her head, “My problem huh?”
Roman sat back down and finished the water. Rand felt like maybe she needed water, her face felt so hot. Pipkin decided she needed to check on Roman herself and moved across the bed to his lap. “I don’t think you drink tea that fast.”
Then there was a knock on the door.
Rand
Roman smiled at her and shrugged. “If I took in that much caffeine I might give myself a heart attack.” He put down the empty bottle. It would be worth it, but wow, he almost wished he hadn’t made this deal. That was a lot of water. At the knock at the door, Roman pressed the control for the door, “Come in!”
~ Roman
Outside the door stood Elbbirt. He strolled in, “Ah good. Rand my dear, help me with the tray would you?” Rand got up and prayed Elbbirt wouldn’t say a thing about earlier. She found the request strange though. She looked past him, “Where’s Randy?” She took the tray and moved it to the the table, not even paying attention to what was on it. The older gentleman chuckled, “Something about respecting your privacy. I’m a doctor I have no such concerns.” Rand looked out the door again before it closed. Though she didn’t know what to say to Randy about that morning, she wanted him there, wanted to know he didn’t hate her. She’d even let him tease her about her and Roman, just…
Elbbirt looked at Alden, he looked decent. “How are you feeling Cmdr?”
“Well Rand, let’s start with you. Let’s go next door, give you some privacy and we’ll make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Hmm?”
Elbbirt
