Roman had turned toward Rand, his arm partially around her but not quite all the way just because she was already asleep. It took long enough for him to answer Randy might’ve assumed he’d fallen asleep. But then he shrugged and took a deeper breath and said, “I don’t think anyone expected this to happen.”

~ Roman

Rand sighed in her sleep as Roman put his arm partially around her. But apparently in her sleep she had no anxiety about getting what she wanted because that partial arm became his whole arm as she rolled closer to him.

Someone was going to owe him for this. Rand most certainly....well maybe not she was asleep, no she owed him. Alden big time! Laying there all cuddled together asleep and he had to see it! It was sweet, really. It made him really happy for both of them, but…well at least they weren’t snogging. Randy stared at the ceiling. 5 more minutes, then he’d give them both another scan and go check in with Elbbirt. Then Roman spoke. Why did the man not go to sleep?! Randy was going to get a horse tranquilizer.

He couldn’t help but grin though, “Didn’t think what would happen? That your blood sugar would drop from lack of food or you’d fall in love with the shy quiet Cpt’s yeoman?”

Randy

Roman tried to say, “Both, actually,” but the words came out as a slurred mumble as he finally fell fully asleep, his breaths becoming deep and even. When Randy scanned him a couple minutes later, the scan would show the swelling had stopped going up but hadn’t started going down. He’d need to start eating more normally and drink more water tomorrow but for now his hydration and blood sugar looked better. He was only starting to show deficiencies in some nutrients, normalizing his eating habits would correct it easily.

Randy chuckled at the both. He’d been around enough groggy and sedated patients to understand. “Yeah well I did on both counts.” Her looked at the scan for Alden and nodded. It was better. Then he went to check on Rand. He didn’t think she needed several days off as Elbbirt insisted, but she certainly needed the rest, and another good meal in her. And to tell him what had caused her to want a Scottish coffee to help her get back to sleep.

Elbbirt drug Randy back that evening to check on their patients and was satisfied that they would be okay. Randy was more than a bit of a worrier so he actually checked on them several times.

Roman slept deeply and dreamlessly and wasn’t awake the next morning until nearly 0900. When he did start to wake up, he seemed groggy as he looked to check the time.

~ Roman

In total Rand had slept almost 22 hours, Roman a bit less. Randy was thrilled when he popped in at 0600 and they were both still asleep and their vitals good, but was careful not to wake them. He held a finger to his lips and “shhh”ed at Pipkin before he left. Rand was lost in dream memories, and no where pleasant. She whimpered quietly in her sleep, but it must have just started because there were no tears on her face and Roman’s shirt was damp. When Roman moved, Rand’s hand tightened in his shirt again, holding herself closer and a quiet cried, “no”.

Rand

For Roman, it was the first night in a long time he slept through the whole night (and beyond) with no nightmares. He slept like a rock with none of his usual tossing and turning. When Randy came in at 0600, Roman was still laying exactly as he was when Randy left. Rand’s quiet whimpers and movement did nothing to wake him. He barely moved, just enough to lift his head, when she gripped his shirt. He turned back to her and hugged her close. The nausea had gone down, and that was good, he still had a headache, and the bump was still sore, but he did feel better than when he’d gone to sleep. He was still groggy and he looked and sounded it, like he was still half asleep “Did you have another dream?”

~ Roman

Rand thought she was in the hospital. The fogged unable to wake up feeling. The heavy limbs and not knowing where she was or when because her head was fuzzy. Roman hugged her tight and she pressed her face into his chest trying to figure out what was going on. She hated this but she felt better as he held her. When Roman spoke she managed to pry her eyes open, but it seemed like a lot of effort. She looked around, this wasn’t the hospital. “Where?” Her mouth felt dry and there was the confused feeling. Another dream? Oh, she nodded, “yeah. Wha…what time is it?” She was thirsty. How long had she been sleeping?

Rand

Roman held her until she calmed down. “0900. We slept a long time.” He knew the feeling, the disorientation of not quite realizing where you were when you woke up from a nightmare. “I know you don’t want to, but you should tell Randy.” Who was he? Suggesting someone talk to a therapist? Even in this case, when it was her brother, he thought it was interesting he was suggesting that. His dizziness wasn’t too bad when he sat up, but when he went to stand, he ended up sitting back on the bed, the room spinning around him.

~ Roman

0900? They over slept? We? “You slept?” She sounded so hopeful and then wished she hadn’t. She didn’t want him to feel bad. She didn’t say anything. She couldn’t talk to Randy about this. It was ridiculous but she couldn’t. He’d tell her everything she hated hearing. It wasn’t her fault, not her responsibility, he was an adult and knew better. It was his decision. That she had nothing to feel guilty about. What she didn’t understand was why she was suddenly dreaming about him again, or dreaming about that again. Then Roman stood up and promptly back down and the brain fog cleared. “Hey, slowly.” She moved over beside him. She remembered trying to help him after his leg, she should probably get Randy. “Let me help, or I can get Randy.”

Rand sounded really hopeful and Roman nodded. “All night. Dreamlessly. Randy said it was because ‘the body needed rest’ or something like that yesterday.” The room was still spinning for him when she moved next to him. He gave a frustrated sigh. Just like with his leg, he hated needing help for even simple tasks.

Rand leaned her head on him. “I’m glad you slept. And annoying as it is he was probably right.” She glanced around to make sure Randy wasn’t around to hear that. She started to tell him to just go slowly and not stand too quickly when the door opened.

The door opened just about then and Randy walked in with a tray. A full Scottish Breakfast for Rand. Randy was bribing her, but no favors required today, Chef missed seeing her and was happy to make it to help her feel better. Randy, as if he had never stopped being Alden’s yeoman, knew Alden never ate a heavy breakfast so his favorite bagel and salmon with cream cheese, and his black tea made the way he liked it. Okay so Rand’s would be better, but it was close. He set the tray on table and took in the two very groggy people sitting on the bed looking slightly confused and ready to fall back onto their pillows. “How are we feeling after almost 19 hours of sleep?”

Rand

Randy had brought him his usual and favourite breakfast, and Roman still couldn’t find a real appetite. His dizziness was only barely subsiding when Randy set the tray on the table. Now that he’d woken up more he looked more awake than he had in days. “Better than yesterday,” was his response to Randy’s question.

~ Roman

19 hours? That was a lot of sleep, she felt like it was longer for her, last she remembered was before lunch. Rand lifted a shoulder. “You know how I feel after I take a sedative.” Randy nodded, Rand wasn’t happy with him. He understood but she looked better, they both did, after all that sleep. He scanned her, and frowned. “Your BP is good but your pulse is still erratic.” He looked from her to Roman. She probably woke up confused and unsure where she was. “You weren’t snogging were you?” Rand turned bright red, she wished that’s what they had been doing. But no it was a nightmare. Rand turned her face into Roman, not wanting a repeat of the last time Randy decided to tease them. Even though Roman had enjoyed teasing Randy back.

Rand

Roman hugged her closer when she tucked herself into him. “Unfortunately not. Though I dunno. Could help with the confusion.” He looked down at her with a little smile and gave her a squeeze. Roman looked between her and Randy, and then let out a small sigh. She was going to be angry at him for this. “She’s been having troublesome dreams.” He hated doing it, but he was worried, and he didn’t want her to go through what he did with the dreams and the not sleeping.

~ Roman

Rand was more than happy to let Roman hold her close, even let him banter with Randy. As long as she didn’t have to move or look at them. They couldn’t see her face get brighter, but she didn’t think Roman kissing her would help with her confusion…make her confused maybe. She went stiff when Roman told Randy what was wrong. Not upset with Roman, she knew he was just worried.

Roman had meant his confusion, because of his head, but hers worked too. He felt her stiffen and immediately felt bad. He’d be upset too, if she went and told Randy something without his say so.

Randy nodded, long days, longer nights, giving her the sedative…wait…been having? Rand sat knelt down and tugged her hand. “Rand? How long?”

She only turned her head slightly, “Off and on for a couple months. You said it would happen sometimes.” Randy nodded, “Yeah, but not constantly. Why didn’t you tell me?” Rand shrugged, “It’s not keeping me awake or waking me up. Only twice.” The thing with Rand was if you didn’t ask when it happened she tended to get immersed in everything else and she didn’t think about it the rest of the day. Unless it set her off all day. “What were you dreaming about?”

Rand suddenly stood up pushing Randy so hard he rocked backwards. “Leave me alone Randy!” And she went the only place she could get away from him - the bathroom.

Rand stood suddenly, tearing herself away from Roman, pushed Randy, and locked herself in the bathroom. He wanted to go to her, to comfort her, but as with earlier that morning, the moment he stood the dizziness forced him to sit back down or fall down. He chose sit down and plopped back onto the bed as the room began to spin once more.

Randy sat on the floor and dropped his head into his hands. Only one thing made her react like that. “Our grandfather.”

Randy

“What?” Roman asked. He remembered the photo in her bag, but he didn’t know anything about him or why it would be so upsetting to Rand. He put a hand to his own head, but for a different reason than Randy - all this was really making his headache worse. Something he wouldn’t tell Rand, he didn’t want her to feel bad.
