Rand looked concerned. It had been at least half an hour since he fell. It should be some better now. She ran her fingers over his neck and head again, giving the bump plenty of clearance. She got up and grabbed a towel from the bathroom and rolled it. Then she set her hands back on his neck, “I want you to lay down, on your left. That will help with your stomach and keep you from laying on the bump on your head.” She placed the rolled towel under his neck for support and to keep the spine in line. “I have to call Randy. You should be feeling some better, not completely but some. It shouldn’t be getting worse.” She flipped open her communicator. =C=Nurse Farquharson what’s your location?=C=Rand ran her hands over his head and neck again, avoiding the bump. Nothing would feel broken, though the bump from falling was quite large by now. She left for a moment and came back with a towel and then returned her hands to his neck. Roman recognized it as supporting his neck. He didn’t argue with her, when she asked him to lay down, he pulled his feet up and did it, letting her tuck the rolled towel under his neck. He didn’t argue about calling Randy, either.
In sickbay Randy rolled his eyes, where did his sister think he was. And he was with a patient finishing up a round of inoculations. He gave the hypo and rubbed the spot on the man’s arm. “We’ll keep you for a few minutes to make sure there is no reaction and then you’ll be able to go.” Rand felt like it was forever before Randy answered her. =C=Hiding in a supply closet with the medical lab tech. How can I help you Yeoman Farquharson?=C= If she was going to be formal so could he. Then a static rhythm started in the connection 1…3…1…repeat. =C=I need your professional services.=C= Randy heard the pattern and felt horrible for being sarcastic with her. =C=On my way.=C=
Less than 5 minutes after that there was a knock on the door and Rand reached over and pressed the control for the door. Randy stepped in, expecting Rand to be curled up with her kelpie struggling to breathe, but instead she had one of her hands on Alden’s neck and shoulders to stabilize his neck and the other was holding an ice pack to the back of his head. He didn’t even get to ask. “He fainted and hit his head. He didn’t appear to have a concussion, not a severe one anyway, but he’s feeling worse rather than better.” Randy was already pulling the wand out of his tricorder. He moved Rand out of the way, and she moved to the other side of the bed. The glare he gave them both was enough to make naughty children squirm. It reminded Rand of their father. A man she never wanted to have upset with her. Worry, concern, frustration, and a twinge of anger in the frustration were swirling in Randy’s stomach, but at the same time a bit of awe for how Rand could handle this and not panic, but other…well time for that later. He began scanning Alden looking for the problem. “Cmdr can you tell me what happened?” Sure Rand told him, but he had to see how addled his thinking was.
Randy
It was a short time before there was a knock at the door. He started to look up as Randy entered but Rand had her hand on the back of his neck to keep it still, so he stopped. Her other hand held the ice pack against his head gently. He didn’t need to say anything, Rand explained it to Randy. Before she’d even finished, he was pulling out a medical tricorder and shooing her to the other side of the bed. Roman had to recount it again? What had he said the first time…? It took him a minute of thinking. He’d been… doing something. No, looking for something. Yes. “I was looking for…” What was it…? Something to drink. Tea! Yes, that was it! He forgot that he wasn’t supposed to be drinking tea so when he came up with the answer he didn’t hesitate to tell him. “Tea. I was looking for tea. Decaffeinated tea!” He paused for a moment and then, “and I got dizzy, and then… I was on the ground with Rand next to me.” Apparently he’d forgotten that he was already sitting up by the time Rand got to him.

Rand shook her head at Randy. That wasn’t quite right, and Roman hadn’t been so confused when she had asked him the same thing. Now she looked really worried. She didn’t say anything though in case it prompted him to change his answers.
“Cmdr I need to ask you a few questions. They will seem very annoying to you, but they will help me judge how hard you hit your head.”
Roman looked up at Randy and then twisted his head a little further to see Rand. They both looked worried. Was that not right? But it had to be, he was sure. “Okay.”
“What’s your full name?”
“Roman Alden of the Alden Estates. No middle name.” He’d never normally introduce himself that way but it was the way he was taught and it came out that way.
Rand raised a brow. What was that? It was so formal, and though Rand knew he was raised very formally it almost made her giggle. If the situation wasn’t so serious, she would have. The ‘Alden Estates’ peaked Randy’s interest and decided maybe he needed to do some big brotherly computer searching.
Roman caught the look they were both giving him and mentally cursed himself. Where the heck had that come from? He wasn’t even technically “of” that estate. Not anymore. He wasn’t welcome back.
“What ship are we on and who is the commanding officer?”
“The USS Sentinel. Captain..” he almost said Carmichael. “Rogers. Shirley Rogers.”
“What is your rank and position?”
“Lieutenant Commander, I’m the first officer.”
“What is the current stardate?” Rand honestly didn’t know if Roman knew that even without hitting his head. They had been working so much the days even blended together for Rand.
Roman thought for a long time on that one, all his answers had taken a moment of thought, but this one took longer. “I… Well I don’t know, do I?” He couldn’t even come up with a day of the week to try. But like Rand thought, that was partially because they’d been working so much, doing the same thing every day.
Randy looked concerned at that but Rand shrugged, “What’s the last star date you remember?” At least that would tell them if he thought it was the correct month and year.
He listed the stardate and then standard date he last remembered. It was about six days ago. Roman remembered things from the six days since then, but the days all blended together, and then on top of that the bump to his head, he just didn’t remember the dates.
Randy checked the tricorder to see what it had to say.
Randy
The tricorder was showing a moderate concussion with a bit of swelling in the brain and that was probably causing his confusion. There didn’t seem to be any bleeding in the brain and that was good. Roman was looking up at him as if waiting for his answer.

Randy shook his head. “Daingead!” He cursed in Gaelic. “Your brain is swelling, still instead of going down. Now I have to take you to sickbay. Why couldn’t you just listen? Really, I’m the medical expert not you. But no....” then he finally looked at Rand. “And why the hell do you smell of alcohol. Good, high quality Whisky?” Rand looked at Roman with a ‘I told you he’d notice’ look. “I had a coffee…”
“Since when do you take whisky in your coffee?” Randy was checking Alden’s head like Rand had while he waited for her to answer. “I don’t. Roman made it for me, but…”
Randy laughed but it sounded so strained that Rand winced, “You didn’t tell him did you? That’s rich, Rand. Are you okay?” Rand shook her head no. Not really she wasn’t. But she wasn’t concerned with herself at the moment. “You don’t move,” he ordered like a drill sergeant to Alden. “You aren’t walking anywhere with that head. I’ll be back. You” he pointed at Rand, “Just…just stay here with him.” He rubbed his neck, “I can’t believe I’m saying this. I’ll loose my license. We’re blaming the rabbit. He tripped over the rabbit.”
After the last time the idea of going to Sickbay terrified Roman. He didn’t want to go, but he felt so bad about the last couple of days he just didn’t say anything at all. He shifted slightly in his spot. Randy was checking his head, and when Randy’s hand came close to the large goose egg that was now on the back of his head, a bit to the left, near the base of his skull, Roman would wince and flinch away like he had for Rand. He tried to interject into their conversation but their replies were quicker than him so he ended up talking at the same time as Randy when he said you didn’t tell him, “I didn’t know she doesn’t drink.” Then Randy pointed at him and Roman shrugged, the last time he stood he nearly fell. He wasn’t going anywhere unless he fancied another meeting with the floor. He shook his head when Randy offered up a reason why he fell. “No, no, don’t lie for me. Don’t risk your nursing license over it…”
After a intense but quick discussion Randy returned about 10 minutes later with Elbbirt. Elbbirt walked in and the dramatic sigh he let out and the huff, “What is with the two of you? I’ll examine you here, medical is busy and we don’t have room for you anyway, so no need to drag you there just to send you back here.” Elbbirt was quick and skilled, but not as gentle as Rand had been, though he wasn’t mean about it. After getting an account of what happened and Rand explaining the rabbit had been behind him and he’d tripped not knowing she was there Elbbirt looked from her to Alden and back, “Don’t blame that cute fur ball. You two are not as sneaky as you think you are. Just because you took leave time young lady but you still worked too many hours and so did he.”
Elbbirt
Had Roman’s luck finally turned? Elbbirt wasn’t making him go to Sickbay because they were too busy? Yes!! Elbbirt’s physical exam was more heavy handed than Rand’s or Randy’s and Roman kept flinching away from him, vocalising a quick “ow” each time.
Rand told the story Randy had suggested, that he’d simply tripped over the rabbit, but Elbbirt’s look told him Elbbirt didn’t believe it. If Elbbirt scanned him, he’d know anyway. The dehydration would show up, the low blood sugar wouldn’t be as low as it was because of the juice and little bit of sandwich but it still wasn’t within normal range, and the scan would probably also show signs that he hadn’t been eating or hadn’t been eating well and signs of lack of sleep. “It was an important project, Command wanted it ASAP.” Roman said. Not exactly the truth, there had been no time limit, but it wasn’t entirely a lie either.
