Roman would never admit it, but Randy had earned his trust. All these months of seeing Randy and he was confident no one knew about it. And, another fact Roman would never admit aloud, it had been helping. There were several scientists who worked under him that Roman trusted professionally, none of them would he entrust his own project to. There was only one person that fit Roman’s description. It would almost be Randy, surely he would listen to him, but Roman wasn’t comfortable with him the way he was with Rand. It would have to be her. He nodded slowly. “Rand. She would do it for me.” Roman couldn’t think of a thing she wouldn’t do for him.

“There is nothing she wouldn’t do for you.” Rand was just that kind of person, but it was saying a lot because she was extremely smart, connected and resourceful. “That will work out well. With her schedule being what it is, you will have a few breaks already throughout the day. Unless of course she takes her leave time. We’ve been out of the Academy a year now. She has a whole week built up.”

Roman shook his head. “She doesn’t need to waste her leave time babysitting me while I work.” He would already feel bad making her use all of her free time to do this. “I’ll ask her later today.” Then he looked at Randy for a long moment, like he was contemplating saying something. Finally, “You’ll… be available as well?”

Randy almost snorted. “Babysit? Hardly. It goads me to say it, but despite the activity I don’t think Rand could imagine a better way to spend her ‘vacation time’ than 24 hours a day for a full 7 days with you.” Randy waited while Alden seemed to be deciding something. “I will be. Just send Rand, everyone is used to her coming to see me. That’s assuming of course, she doesn’t kill me first.” Randy was grinning enough at the last part that Alden would get the impression that he thought the punishment was worth it. Randy was wise enough not to ask what happened after though.
