The NE at helm nodded, “..Aye..” he said, slowly but surely the Sentinel responded and rose to a high orbit of 29,000km. A moment later the dull thumps of four probes went out from the ship on their way towards the sun.

Karl tapped the command to transfer launch controls to his station then launched the probes before standing up “Copy that” he flashed a brief smile before half jogging to the turbolift and leaving the Bridge.

Cleolet returned the smile before getting up and walking over to the science station. she wanted to see the data as it came in. Even if it was minimal data it could still prove useful and if not all they had done was pass the tie until the away teams came back.

With the probes sent out it would be a few minutes before they would reach their destination near the sun in the system. So in the meantime Cleolet was kept company by the dull thumping of the insentient micro asteroids still pelting the hull outside the ship, as well as the normal beeps and boops and pings around the bridge.

As minutes passed by the probes finally reached their destination near the system’s main solar body. Initial scans so far showed nothing unusual really it was a standard quite young G type star in a stellar sense. As more results began to flow in the science NE from before spoke up, “..Hmm, well that is interesting..” he commented out loud.

Turning from the view finder to Cleolet. “..Probe 2 and 3 are picking up what can only be described as the remains of some kind of a Class M atmosphere in a high orbit of the sun! Impossible I know, but there is a slowly fading pattern consistent with Class M worlds. I’m not quite sure what to make of it. There is obviously no planet, moon, asteroid, structure or ship there and the consistency is fading so fast it couldn’t support life as we know it either and its so thin as to be effectively useless, not to mention with the intense heat from the sun, and well space and the natural formations of storms and gases in the Abyss around us....well it’s frankly impossible, but three scans confirm its there slowly decaying. Probably will be fully gone in another 2-3 minutes..” he reported.

That was a surprise, what could be causing that Cleolet thought as she looked at the data “Could it be the remains of a planet or a ship that some how crashed into the sun?” she asked her Science officer. it was really odd surely of it was such a thing there would be more evidence of that, chunks of planet or wreckage form a ship. Then a thought hit her

“A ship couldn’t be hiding behind the sun could it?” she asked, maybe the reading they piced up was the shipo venting atmosphere to keep hidden or something
