Rand nodded, that was good. It wasn’t his lab but it would stop him from being too far behind. She picked up her PaDD from the desk and set it beside him. “Lab reports. Franks did okay today. He’s starting to accept that he doesn’t have to put a full report in for each lab and experiment and study. Just a summary and suggestions and comments. Unfortunately, for him, he is making those few things pages long.” Those weren’t in the data disk she gave to Randy because she hadn’t had time to grab them at that point.Roman nodded. Considering he hadn’t expected to need Franks as aCSO so soon, he was doing well. He started looking through the reports, chuckling to himself. “He’s a little over-detailed but he’s not wrong.”
“I think he likes it. He’s getting to dabble in all the other labs. I think he spent more time yesterday helping in the other labs than his own work. He finishes one section, moves on to the next and then goes back 2 lab reports to add more. He’s going to burn himself out.” Rand appreciated Franks enthusiasm, but things were going to pile up if he had to do it on his own.
“He’ll learn after the first time not to burn himself out,” Roman said. He’d done much the same years ago when he’d become a CSO the first time. “This time at least, I should be back before too long.”
Finally, the rabbit came over and took the treat from Randy and he picked her up, careful of her back legs. “Ha, just like any other woman, chocolates and charm.” He grinned and placed her in her cage while Rand sighed loudly and rolled her eyes. “Are you done yet?” Randy just raised his brow in order to avoid grinning. Lords and Ladies he loved his sister. And he was never going to let her live this down. “No I’m not Ms Priss. He’s got 15 minutes left.” But he left anyway, returning and walking over to her and putting something in her hand. “Eat. I’m sure you skipped breakfast.”
Roman smiled and shook his head at the antics between the two. “Fifteen minutes on this one and then one more session tonight,” he added, updating Rand on what Randy had told him earlier.
She took the bar Randy handed her and made a face at him. Childish in a way but that was just how she and Randy were. She glanced over and smiled at Roman, “That’s wonderful. How long until you get to go back to work?” She asked because she knew it was important to him, not that she was ready to stop helping him.
Roman shook his head. “Dunno yet. Randy ran some data down to Elbbirt. He’ll either decide based on that or decide based on new images.” It would be obvious to Rand what Roman thought of that, that he did not want to go back for more imaging. He knew she was asking because she knew he’d rather be working. He figured she’d be in his lab as much as she could be, at least his first few days back. Probably trying to make sure he didn’t overwork himself and land himself back in sickbay.
She nodded, that was good news. She didn’t miss the look and all she could do was smile reassuringly. If he had to go back for more images she’d go with him. And he could leave soon after. Rand would be there as much as possible no matter what. Though she hadn’t planned it that way, she’d ended up taking several notes and photos while at the cave. So she knew that Roman would have endless questions for her to clarify what’s she’d observed. So she’d be in the lab just for that. She’d also be there plenty to make sure all the reports and requests for resources were processed as quickly as possible. Then she’d be playing catch up with Rogers. And she’d overslept today. GAH!
Fifteen minutes later, Randy took the regenerator down, and looked at Alden to see if he wanted the meds. He left the new anti-inflammatory doses on the table. “Alright now I’m leaving.”
Randy and Rand
Roman intentionally avoided eye contact with Randy stubbornly. He was not taking any more meds unless he had to. “See you at 2130.” He wanted Randy to leave, too, mostly because he preferred just be alone with Rand. They could do something that would feel normal for both of them and go over reports and notes. Or just sit until she had to go. Either way everything was awkward with her brother over their shoulders all the time.

Randy took a hint when he saw it and slipped out the door with a reminder to page him if they needed anything. Rand grabbed Roman’s PaDD to go over the notes and comments he made. She promised to review them for him to make sure they were correct. Then she was quickly uploading them to the computer to add to the official report. She didn’t sit, she stood but as soon as Randy was gone she shifted all her weight to her right leg and her jaw tightened, but still she didn’t sit.
Rand
Roman had been playing that game long enough he quickly recognized Rand doing it. She’d been hiding it from Randy, but once he was gone, she was leaning on her right side and it looked like she was hiding that it hurt. It was her left ankle she’d hurt and Roman knew it. Suddenly he knew how she felt. “You hurt yourself today, didn’t you?” He asked, looking at her. “And you’re not telling your brother about it.” That part was a statement more than a question.

Rand only kind of glanced up from where she was bent over to look at the computer screen. The look on her face was confession enough, especially when she wouldn’t quite look at him. She wasn’t going to lie but she didn’t want to admit it either. She had that ‘tone’ almost like when he told her to stop arguing with Elbbirt about the bone fuser. She nodded, “I…I just need to wrap it…” then sighed, “Randy will make me go to sickbay.”
Rand
Roman was right. That look was more than enough to tell him so. “I’m not going to tell him for you,” he said. He knew he probably should, or at least make her go on her own, but he also knew what he’d want her to do. “Wrap it and try to take it easy on it, then you can go only if it gets worse.” Again, it felt like he should make her go, but he wasn’t going to make her do something he knew he wouldn’t do. But he wanted her to tell Randy or go on her own if it got any worse. She didn’t need to follow in his footsteps entirely and give herself major problems by trying to avoid it.

He wasn’t going to tell Randy. Her shoulders sagged a bit and then she shook her head. Either because she recognized he was being a bit hypocritical about it or she was refusing to go to sickbay at all - or both. “I’ll tell him…tonight, after his shift, after your session with the dermal regenerator. When he’s tired and doesn’t want to get up. He’ll check my foot and give me something from his kit if he has to. Then I don’t have to go to sickbay, or miss more work.” She tapped away at the keyboard and then finally stood up straight. “Alright that puts all those up to date.” While he’d been in sickbay they had gotten caught up together on all his XO reports from while they were gone. Now it was a matter of keeping up with the day to day. She brought his PaDD back to him. “Be right back.”
Roman nodded, then at least Randy would check it. Then he smiled one of his playful smiles. “Would it help if I carried you there again?” He knew he couldn’t actually carry her just then, his leg would barely allow for his own weight, but if the comment made her smile, that was the goal. He took his PaDD back, and then she was gone.
Rand grinned but she turned really red at the same time. She stammered out a very quiet and flustered, “It would.” Sure, she’d even let him when he was better…but by then there would be nothing wrong with her foot so it didn’t matter....right? And as long as the corridors were empty.
That made Roman’s smile wider and he wished his leg were better already. “I’ll remember that. You’ve injured that foot how many times? I’m sure another chance will present itself.” He was teasing her and enjoying it. Though, if he could, he would absolutely carry her to sickbay again.
She’d heard Randy head down the corridor and she slipped out and was back a few minutes later. She finally sat down, slipped her boot off and began to wrap her ankle. Quickly before it decided to swell, which it was, but not much. More it just felt weak and tired. She grabbed her PaDD and looked at him. “Kelmao notes?”
Rand
Then Rand was back a few minutes later and at last she sat down. When she was finished with her ankle she looked at him and he smiled, pulling the notes up on his own PaDD. “I almost wish we could’ve had more time there. With everything we did get, I think there’s a lot more we missed out on.” He’d already read over most of the notes while he was in sickbay, but he hadn’t finalized anything or finished writing up reports and comments on them.

“Do you think they might let us go back? It is in our ‘patrol’ route. It would make sense to me to send the same ship since they already have experience there.” Her job was command support but sometimes she wondered about the common sense of ‘command’. “I mean we already know the cave is safe…or where it is anyway. It may not stay that way, and familiar with some of the animals and flora.” She shrugged and then reached over him for a green data disk and handed it to him. “The photos and recordings I took.” She grabbed an orange data disk and slipped it into her PaDD. A copy of his Kelmao notes so she could add to them.
Rand
Roman made a ‘pfffft’ sound. “Probably not unless there’s literally no other mission anywhere near this sector to send us on. I can’t even get them to send us to the planet my animals are from.” Then again, that wasn’t quite in this region of space, but it wasn’t like it was on the opposite side of the Federation, either. He leaned out of her way as she reached over him and then took the green data disk and loaded it to his PaDD, starting to go through them. “All from while I was down in the caves with Franks?”
