Rand didn’t really want to get up. She was settled in, but she would have preferred to have gotten up just then rather than later. She was glad though that he didn’t need anything right then since she really didn’t want to get up. She nodded and seemed to lean in closer. She thought about asking how his leg was feeling but thought it might be better to not drawn his attention to it.Rand
Roman was getting tired. He was comfortable and relaxed, his meds were in full effect, and all that made him feel sleepy. He let out a small yawn and looked at Rand. “Or maybe I’ll fall asleep before I need anything, after all.”
~ Roman
A light barely there brush of air on the back of Rand’s hand. Her fingers flexed slightly and she sunk back into sleep. She was warm cozy, and tired, and she had no intention of waking up. Soft feathery twitching tickled the back of her hand, followed by the touch of a tiny slightly cold nose. Her hand twitched and it happened again. With a deep sigh Rand listened to the room around her. What had woken her up? Randy? A comm? She opened her eyes, and turned red in the dark. It wasn’t either of those things. She turned her head slightly to look at Roman. It was like the tent on Kelmao except there was no emergency. So what had woken her up? Roman was still asleep and didn’t seem to be in pain or having a nightmare.
Then another touch to her hand - Pipkin. The little rabbit had left her cage and used the stool to climb up on the bed. She sat up very carefully so as not to wake Roman. She scratched Pipkin behind the ears and then looked around. Now that she was awake she was cold. A look at the chronometer said she was supposed to give Roman the first anti-inflammatory. She slipped from the bed and blinked sleep from her eyes. She picked up the first hypo, shooed a curious Pipkin away, and carefully pressed it to his leg. Then she went looking for that blanket that always seemed to be around.
Rand
Roman gave no reaction as Rand started to move around. The hypo caused him to twitch a little but still he did not wake. The pain meds were doing as Randy intended, Roman was in a deep, dreamless sleep. The blanket was neatly folded and stored on a shelf in his closet.

Rand finally found the blanket, in the closet. She didn’t figure Roman would care, but it was still just weird going through his stuff. In the dim light she barely noticed Pipkin hop into the closet, and only be cause the light reflected off the white patches of her fur. She sighed and knelt down to look for her. In a very hushed whisper she berated the rabbit. “Your supposed to give him problems you little fur ball. Where did you go?” Rand was not going to turn the light on and possibly wake Roman up. So she dug around in the floor of the closet, which was pitch black, feeling around for the tiny thing. Finally, she got ahold of her, and picked her up and carried her, along with the blanket back to the bed. “Maybe you need to stay in your room at night? Hmm?” She sat with Pipkin back on the bed. Well now what? Should she go? No probably not, Roman was supposed to get the other anti-inflammatory in less than an hour. She really didn’t want to go either, she’d rather stay there. She leaned back against the head board, trying one-handed to spread the blanket out over both of them. Pipkin was awake and finally Rand put her on the floor to go explore instead of wiggling everywhere. It wasn’t long before she’d dozed off again, head on his shoulder.
Rand
Roman shifted in his sleep, starting to roll, but something was in his way. The unexpected inability to roll over caused him to wake and poke at what was there. It was Rand, she hadn’t left like she normally did. He was glad she was there. Her head had been against his shoulder but as his body had tried to roll her head had instead ended up on his pillow.
Now that he was awake, he checked the time. It was still early early morning. About an hour after Rand had woken, not that he would know that. He realized he needed the facilities. Rather urgently, actually. He didn’t want to wake Rand just to walk him there, but his leg still hurt and would still be weak, and going himself was sure to aggravate it. He considered his options. He still did not want to wake Rand. She’d have to work in a few hours. His crutches had been left conveniently within his reach, most definitely so that he’d use them. But they’d make a lot of noise especially if he fell with them. He decided to go without, as much of a lecture as he was sure that would earn him if Rand did wake up.
Carefully moving away from a still sleeping Rand, and checking to be sure he wouldn’t step on Pipkin, he swung his good leg over the edge of the bed. Using his hands to help it again, and making a silent face of pain, he swung his bad leg over the edge. Then, slowly, and putting the majority of his weight on his left side, he stood up. Pain shot through his leg, even with the little weight he had on it. He wished Randy hadn’t made him get rid of the stick from Kelmao. He leaned on the wall, using that to support some of his weight on that side. Several painful and slow steps later, he slipped into the restroom in the quarters and shut the door as softly as he could.

The thing about being a captain’s yeoman was that you had to be ready to go instantly. No matter how much or little sleep you had, what you were doing, or what time it was. That meant Rand had learned to be a very light sleeper. Roman was over half way to the restroom when his irregular foot falls finally registered with Rand. She opened her eyes and of course noticed Roman was up, and then saw both crutches still against the wall. The door shut softly and she correctly assumed he didn’t want her help with that particular task. Quietly she stood up and grabbed a crutch and walked over toward the door. She propped it against a chair near the door. It wouldn’t fall on him, but he’d have to move it.
She had to admit that his quarters were a little small and trying to move with both crutches were hard and he wasn’t exactly good at using them. But one crutch would work much like his stick. She went back to the bed and scooped Pipkin up with her where she had been sniffing around the bathroom door. She disposed of the two ice packs and grabbed two new ones and laid back down, pulling the blanket up and letting Pipkin crawl all over her. When Roman opened the door her voice, soft and sleepy, drifted through the dark, “Use it like your stick.”
Rand
The door opened a few minutes later and Roman immediately noticed the crutch placed rather nicely in his way. He’d have to move it anyway. It was a not-so-subtle message, made doubly obvious as Rand’s voice drifted through the darkness. With a heavy sigh he grabbed the crutch and used it like he’d used the stick, to add support to his bad side. His progress across the room was still slow, but less painful than it had been to get to the restroom and another several steps later he was back by the bed. He set the crutch against the other one and lay back in bed next to her.

After he was settled, Rand pulled herself back up and out of bed. Suppressing a weary groan and walked around the bed and grabbed the other hypo. “Your second anti-inflammatory.” Her voice was slightly slurred, she was tired. Or at least that was the impression she wanted him to have. And she was…but she was emphasizing it a bit in the hopes he wouldn’t argue about it. Not about the anti-inflammatory. She pressed it to his leg and there was a pop hiss of the medicine going in. Then she grabbed the two ice packs and activated them and handed them to him so he could put them where they would do the most good. She had a couple hours before she had to report. She went to lay back down. “Pipkin, where’d you go?” She didn’t want to sit on her. Rand lifted the blanket and reassured Pipkin wasn’t hiding there she laid back down after kissing Roman’s cheek. Unaware she was the reason he woke up, she laid just as close as she had been before, totally oblivious.
Rand
Roman’s leg hurt from walking and he was tired, and he didn’t catch that she said his second anti-inflammatory, nor did he argue about it. Rand handed him new ice packs and Roman set them against his leg where he liked them best. Then she lay just as close to him as she had been before, and he settled the rest the way in against her. Her being there had woke him but he still wanted her there, liked that she was there. He was back asleep in what felt like record time for him.

Rand was out almost immediately. It seemed even Pipkin was tired from her night time explorations because she didn’t wake either of them....
No it wasn’t the rabbit or the alarm…because Rand forgot to set one. It was the door opening, light stabbing into it and a very heavy Scottish brogue exclaiming, “UGH! Sin mo phiuthar! (that’s my sister!) Awww hell can we just go back to the snogging?! D@mn.” Rand sat up, instantly awake. “Randy? Dè tha ceàrr? Dè an uair a tha e? (What’s wrong? What time is it?)” Randy started to laugh. “0630.” Then he bent down and scooped up the rabbit that was heading for the open door. “No escaping for you.”
Randy and Rand
Roman blinked his eyes open as the sudden bright light woke him up. He was too tired to catch the Gaelic part of the conversation but he smiled when Randy switched to English. “Might think twice before you go barging into someone’s quarters,” he said. Then Randy answered Rand’s Gaelic questions with the time and Roman knew why he was here. Rand was usually awake long before 0630. Roman’s own alarm was usually set for half an hour ago. “You’re going to be late, aren’t you?”
~ Roman
Rand jolted up off the bed, “Going to be? I am late.” The blanket ended up in a heap half on Roman half on the floor. She grabbed her PaDD and tried to skirt around Randy to get out the door. Unfortunately for her Randy stopped her, spun her around, and stage whispered in her ear. “Rand, such bad manners, don’t leave a man hanging like that. At least kiss him good bye.” Rand was too flustered to even think about what Randy said. She turned around as Randy spun her and pushed her back toward Roman. She leaned over and kissed him, whispered, “I love you,” and then headed back for the door. Randy stopped her again, “Rand…you’re forgetting something.” She turned around looking confused as Randy, bunny still cradled in his arm, snatched up her boots and handed them to her. “Unless of course you want to run in high-heeled boots.” Rand took the boots looking flustered and Randy doubled over laughing. “Randy it’s NOT funny!” Still bent over, “Yes…hehehe…hooo…hehe....yes it is.”
Rand dashed out the door and after a moment he stopped laughing, sat down and looked at Roman with a grin. “So…how ya feelin’ this morning?”
Randy
Roman blinked as Rand marched across the room and was swiftly turned around by Randy. He gave a quick, quiet reply of, “I love you, too,” and then he looked at Randy. “I thought you didn’t like the snogging,” he said, teasing Randy after Rand had begun to head back towards the door. Randy handed her her boots and she was gone. It took Randy another moment to compose himself and Roman shook his head. “I’m fine.” The answer was his standard. The pain meds were starting to wear off, and his walk to the bathroom had left his leg more sore than it had been. But other than the pain, he did feel okay. No rapid heart rate, no nausea, none of the other complaints that he’d had lately. His leg just hurt, and the pain meds hadn’t worn off enough yet for the pain to be intolerably bad. The anti-inflammatory doses and the ice had been helping as well. And he was hungry. He was starting to feel a lot more like his usual self. He reached down and grabbed the blanket Rand had haphazardly thrown off and fixed it.
