Roman had no problem with doctors and he mostly didn’t like how pain meds made him feel. He just didn’t like the questions they might have to ask and the memories associated with both Sickbay and treatment. And with other meds, well, if he needed them he might need to go to Sickbay, and… It all tied back to not wanting to remember things. He made a mock scared face. “If he’s decided he likes me, I think we can safely assume the apocalypse is nigh,” he said in mock seriousness. He didn’t say it, but he believed what Randy had said earlier - that he simply didn’t want to make Rand angry by leaving him alone. Essentially, he felt like the one being chaperoned, it felt like they were making sure he was never alone. He didn’t really mind, he’d rather Rand be there at least, but Randy sticking around when he didn’t need to was… almost kind of awkward.

She giggled at the face he made. Then going along with his mock fear she gave a little shutter, “If it really is the apocalypse what shall we do on our last day alive?” Rand had no idea why Randy had stayed so long. If she had to guess, she would say it had something to do with Roman’s medical stuff. She was going to say something to Randy about picking on her in front of Roman though…maybe, if she didn’t make herself anxious. “Well he’s gone now and promised not to come back until tomorrow.” The nice thing about not being perched on the chair she was able to be closer and she was able to relax because she wasn’t at risk of falling between the chair and the biobed.

Rand

This time his face of… not disgust, but displeasure, was real. Not because of Randy coming back, he preferred Randy over some doctor or nurse he didn’t know as well, but because Randy’s morning visit would be for another dose of medication. Rand looked way more comfortable than in Sickbay, probably because she was actually on the bed instead of wedged between a biobed and a chair. “Good for us, though. It’s been nearly a week since we’ve been here, just the two of us.”

~ Roman

Rand saw the look and she hugged him, tightly. It didn’t take much for her to know why he had that look. Rand wasn’t too worried about when he got back to duty or before the sessions with the regenerator were over. She was worried about in between. If she was lucky Pipkin was going to keep him very busy. “Even if there were no meds, you still have two more days with the regenerator. Then your leg will be like it was never injured in the first place.” Her look turned mischievous, “Then Mr Dummy will really learn his lesson.”

Had it really been a week since they’d had time just the two of them? Well it had been just them at the cave, but that wasn’t what Roman meant. The odd thing was they’d spent more time together in the last week than they did when on board before Kelmao. Just not alone.

Rand

Roman hugged her. He hadn’t tried anything he wasn’t supposed to be so far, but the kind of pain he was in would do that. When the pain became more manageable, he’d probably get less compliant. Rand would be lucky if Pipkin kept him too busy to try anything. Her look turned mischievous and he grinned but shook his head. “If it’s anything like last time, martial arts will be restricted until my PT is nearly done.” That was something to look forward to, though. If it was like it was never injured in the first place, hopefully it would never bother him again.

“I can see how the impact of kicking the dummy might be too much at first. But I bet the stretches and forms you warm up with would be good for your leg…I mean maybe…eventually. If you don’t stretch too far or the wrong way.” She had no idea what she was talking about but it made sense to her. The muscle was new, not damaged, it just needed practice. “This is so much better than the cave or the tent.” She blinked a few times and took a slow deep breath. Now that Roman was out of sickbay the stress of wondering if he would be alright had eased, and with Elbbirt having cleared her and her foot she wasn’t worried about having to go back for herself. And she was really elated that Roman liked Pipkin. She’d listened and knew she was exactly what he’d wanted, but they liked each other right away which was even better. And now she was tired. “Do you want anything to eat, drink, new ice packs?” She didn’t want to tell him she was tired and him start worrying about her. He seemed really relaxed, at least compared to the last few days.

Rand

Roman didn’t really know either. “Maybe they would. It would feel strange to warm up and not get to do what comes after the warm up, though,” he said and grinned, “you know. The fun part.” He looked at her as she took a breath, she looked relaxed. Maybe a little tired. He was more relaxed than he had been in days. The surgery was over, his leg was going to be fine, he was out of Sickbay, everything had turned out fine. He’d probably be more relaxed than he had been in weeks if it weren’t for the pain and how he felt about the medication for the pain.

“MmmHmmm,” Rand grinned thinking about it, “Fun to watch too.” Maybe if she wasn’t so tired and they weren’t alone she wouldn’t have said that out loud. But Roman knew, he’d caught her watching him practice, and ‘asked’ her about it with that look he got. Her grin didn’t quite hide the small yawn that tried to eacape. “I’m sure that Mr. Dummy will be glad for the reprieve.”

And Rand had done something entirely unexpected but one of the best things anyone had done for him in getting him Pipkin. He’d never expected to get his dream pet, especially not so soon. That was going to be the most spoiled little rabbit ever. New ice packs would be nice, maybe something to eat too, but he didn’t want Rand to get up yet. It felt like they’d just settled in. “It can wait,” he said after a second.

~ Roman

Rand didn’t really want to get up. She was settled in, but she would have preferred to have gotten up just then rather than later. She was glad though that he didn’t need anything right then since she really didn’t want to get up. She nodded and seemed to lean in closer. She thought about asking how his leg was feeling but thought it might be better to not drawn his attention to it.
