Rand looked at him kind of funny as he just stood there, then with a soft smile she pointed at the table and two chairs. One benefit of yeoman’s quarters - they rated a table space. Tiredly she teased him, “Calm down Romeo, the Capulets are not at home today.” She heated water for tea, soon the smell of his citrus tea and then the smell of ginger for her wafted the air. Then a tray appeared, bread and a small assortment of meats and cheeses and spreads, and then various fruits and veggies appeared. She set the cups of tea down and then sat. She’d been leaning heavily in the counter while she prepped. She wasn’t ill it was just the demands the fuser made on the body’s energy level. Or maybe it was the fact she’d better tell Randy before someone else did. “Not much, but I don’t think I can handle anything heavier. But if you want something from the Galley…”

Rand

Roman took a seat at the table. “It’s alright, I can get get something later if I’m still hungry.” He noticed her leaning on the counter, and it worried him somewhat, but he said nothing, he figured she was just really tired. He took his cup of tea and sipped it, he almost always drank his tea piping hot. “It’s been a longer day than I expected it to be.” He commented.

Rand nodded in agreement. “I wasn’t expecting to have to be in sickbay so long.” She didn’t apologize but she felt…upset over having waited 3 hours in sickbay for the bone fuser. It was supposed to be a quick visit that turned into forever. She sipped her tea…”Oh…ewwww..ugh.” She reached down very and plucked his cup from him and stood up. “I guess I wasn’t paying attention. I thought the water was hotter.” It was barely luke warm. She dumped the tea, both cups and started the water again, and sat back down while they waited.

Rand

He shrugged. “Sickbay always takes longer than you expect.” That was part of the reason he always called his yearly physicals a waste of time. The tea was… lukewarm. Not very good. But Roman didn’t say anything. He even took another sip of it before she plucked it out of his hands. “Are you sure you’re okay? You seem… A little out of it,” he said, after she sat back down. Rand almost never messed up the tea.

“I’m sorry. I guess I’m just…tired.” She wanted to spend time with Roman, she just would rather they do something quiet, like read a book until she fell asleep. “They told me the bone fuser demanded a lot of the body, but I guess I didn’t notice before because they were giving me pain meds. And I guess I’m just glad to be away from Sickbay.” She picked at a piece of fruit and then looked at him…he was worried? “Am…are you..worried?” That kind of blew her mind.

Rand

“Nothing to apologize for,” Roman replied with a shrug. “Perhaps I should be making the tea tonight.” He could understand wanting to be away from Sickbay, though he knew her reasons were different from his, mostly. Her last question surprised him. “Miranda, I love you. Of course I’m worried about you, especially when you seem so tired,” he said, looking back at her.

Could someone get tired of being told they were loved? Rand didn’t think so. She smiled at him. “I love you too, Roman.” Shyly, she leaned over and kissed his cheek. She also would never tire off hearing him call her Miranda. “I know you do. I just…I meant right now… you’re worried now.” She meant specifically in stead of in a general sense. “I’m more tired than I realized. I would rather spend my evening with you, but I’m not sure I will be good company.” Right then she just wanted to stretch her leg out and close her eyes. The water in the kettle was starting to boil but hadn’t whistled yet.

Rand

Roman smiled as she kissed his cheek, and then he nodded. “I noticed, that’s what worries me right now.” He shrugged. “I don’t know why, you’re just tired, but it does.” He was listening for the whistle of the kettle, wanting his tea back. “That’s alright, I’m sure I’m not always good company when I’m tired, either. If you like, I can just stay until you fall asleep.”

She stopped herself from saying she was surprised she hadn’t crashed by now. Her crazy schedule and their late nights added together. But then Roman would feel bad, but Rand didn’t mind. She liked their talks and spending time with him. She wasn’t sure how to make him not worry. Before she thought better of it, she nodded, “I’d like that.” and it was punctuated by a quickly hand covered yawn. And then she realized that meant she’d be in her bed with Roman in the room and that made her a little but noticeably nervous. He’d been here before but she’d not been sleeping, just resting her foot. She glanced down at her hands and another thought occurred to her…she was still in uniform and she didn’t want to wear her uniform to sleep in…that meant she had to change....oh boy....and then the tea kettle started to whistle.

Rand

Roman could tell when she’d made herself nervous, and it didn’t take him long to figure out why, the idea of him, being here, while she was potentially sleeping. And that made him feel kind of awkward, even though he knew he hadn’t meant anything by his words. Normally, in his own quarters, he wasn’t really concerned with it but it being her quarters changed things for some reason. “I can get the tea, if you like,” he said, trying to hide his awkwardness.
