Rand shook her head, “I’d really hate it if you did that.” She really enjoyed helping in the lab, even though she really didn’t feel like she did much at all to help. Roman said she did though, and she didn’t think he said that just to be nice. She also liked getting to spend the extra time with him and learn about his work. It was fascinating. She didn’t want to pretend though. She didn’t want people talking either. She sighed, “I mean really, I’m sitting here with my shoe off and my foot propped up. Everyone knows I broke my foot. They’re unobservant. Unless they think I got bit in the foot and then there would be a much bigger problem - there’d be an animal loose.”

“And they all know if that happened, I’d have the whole department looking for it, minus whoever let it get out,” Roman replied. He couldn’t ban her from the lab, he’d never stay caught up on his paperwork without her help. And the mouse would get depressed. He shrugged. “We knew my being here would probably catch some attention.”

“Exactly,” and then Rand felt out numbered. No one in his department was that unobservant. At least not anyone in the biology lab. Roman wouldn’t have them working that lab otherwise. So the question had probably been genuine just to make sure, but they all suspected by now. “I know, but I swear if Scott comes in here, you’re banning me from the lab.”

Rand

Roman smiled. “She’s not that bad, and she’s going to find out anyway, when everyone else does. She isn’t the only gossip queen aboard. In fact, she’ll probably hear I was here either way.” He had thought about it, and he had seen a few of his science officers already, aside the one that mimed getting bit to Rand. Scott would hear it from them, and then she might come to see for herself.

She supposed Roman was right. She liked Scott for the most part. When she was being just a person and not hounding her for details about her personal life. But Roman wasn’t the one going to be cornered by her in the Galley wanting details. It wouldn’t just be Scott, it would be everyone. Not to mention every time she came to the lab everyone would be watching to see what they were doing. She was stressing herself out thinking about it. However, she loved Roman so she never considered ‘breaking up’ with him. But she was obviously getting herself worked up and stressed. “Do…do you want to leave, then?” She didn’t want him to, and that would be obvious to him, but she couldn’t tell at the moment if he wanted to stop people from finding out or not.

Rand

“No.” The answer was simple, but Roman was too stubborn to leave regardless of what he thought. He had convinced himself people would find out either way, and Rand clearly wanted him to stay. So he was going to. Roman wasn’t likely to get asked a million questions, but people would still stare and whisper when they saw him. He did want to stop people finding out, if he were to be honest. But he wanted to be there for Rand more than he wanted to keep it a secret.

“Okay,” Rand was relieved he was staying. Even if Elbbirt decided she needed another session it wouldn’t be till the next day, but she was just glad to not be in sickbay alone. Shrine, keeping an eye on her patient noticed the still slightly pinched features on Rand’s face. Assuming she was still feeling sick she brought Rand a drink. “Ginger Ale for your stomach. If you’re still feeling sick later, tell Randy, he can give you something for it.” She turned to Alden, “Can I get you something to drink, Cmdr?” She wasn’t sure if he was planning to stay or not, but she wasn’t going to be rude either.
