“The captain will understand your lateness-” he almost said ‘Rand’ again, or worse, ‘Miranda’ but this time he caught himself first. “She knew about your appointment, and she’ll know why you’re late.” He could recognize his own excuse making behaviour in the way she insisted the due reports were more important than her treatment. But he wasn’t going to tell anyone else that, least of all Rand. Judging by how she looked at him, he was ‘in trouble’ already for ruining her plan to distract the doctor.~ Roman
Elbbirt nodded, “The Cmdr is quite right, Ensign. We made due for a whole week, we’ll make due for a night. Rogers is very serious about the health of her crew. Now put your foot over here and let’s get started.”
Rand wasn’t horribly upset with Roman, not really. Well maybe just a bit. But Rand knew if it was him, she couldn’t exactly order him to go to sickbay but she’d try. She looked away from him and down at a spot on the bed in front of her. She was going to be sick or cry, probably both. It had absolutely nothing to do with Roman or the fact that Shrine and Elbbirt were looking like they knew more than they should. It had everything to do with that machine and how much it hurt. To the point the pain made her sick. She was stubborn though, gripping the edge of the bed, until Elbbirt turned it on. Then she squeezed her eyes shut, biting her tongue to keep from crying, and then grabbed hold of his hand.
Rand
She grabbed Roman’s hand, and he let her squeeze it all she needed, though he watched the medical staff, hoping they were too focused on their jobs to notice that they were holding hands. He knew coming would probably start the gossip mill, and he’d prepared himself for that, but now, it made him more uncomfortable than he’d like to admit. Then again, maybe it was just being in Sickbay at all that made him feel so uncomfortable.

If Rand was really thinking about it, this would not be how she’d have the ship find out. But then again, maybe it was the best way? Better the med staff than Scott. At the moment though all Rand was worried about was making it through this last unexpected round with the fuser. Finally she heard Elbbirt turn the machine off. “Alright, Ensign why don’t you lay back.” Rand shook her head, if she did she was going to be sick. She just wanted to stay right there and breath. Recognizing the signs of nausea he ordered Shrine to give her a low dose of Zofran, which she refused, saying it would pass on it’s own. And it would, but Zofran also had the nasty side affect of putting people to sleep and Rand was NOT staying in sickbay over night. They propped the bed up for when she felt she could sit back.
“Alright Ensign. You can start running again in the morning, BUT only a quarter deck at a time and no more than 2 laps the first 3 days. And wrap that ankle securely before you do.” Rand nodded she’d remember. She was still holding onto Roman’s hand when the doctor and nurse left.
Rand
Roman was happy to hear she was clear to run, and assuming he was going with her, he’d hold her to the limits the doctor set. And he understood refusing the medication, he would too. When they finally left, Rand was still holding his hand. “There, see, you’re done. Now you don’t have to think about it anymore.” That was always the hardest part for him, with physicals anyway, the looking ahead to it. He hadn’t actually had to stay in Sickbay in the last three years.

Rand nodded and realizing she still had hold of his hand she let go and slid her hand away. She never really minded doctors before, but as she’d told Roman, having to stay over night just brought up a lot of bad memories she hadn’t been aware were bothering her. She’d gone through all of her medical checks at Academy no problem, even being treated for bumps and bruises because of her clumsiness. She was suddenly very tired of people. Not that she wanted to go around announcing she was dating Roman, that was their business, but why did everyone have to be so nosey and gossipy. All she really wanted was a hug because she was hurting and felt sick and whole lot stressed out about the medical stuff. But no, people couldn’t see simple kindness and compassion and leave it be they had to be right pains in the arse about it. “Thank you Cmdr. I’ll be fine now.” She was sure it sounded overly formal and professional, but honestly if not she might start crying or worse loose the lunch she’d eaten a couple hours ago.
Rand
It sounded stiffeningly formal, and that was coming from Roman. It made him worry, just a bit, that she was still angry at him for foiling her attempt to distract the doctor. He almost reached back for her hand when she let his go, but stopped himself, his being here would be enough of a gossip maker. It wasn’t a small ship, but it certainly wasn’t a large one either, and people seemed to feel they had little to do than talk about the personal lives of others. She was going to be here the next three or four hours and he didn’t really want to just leave her. Glancing around to make sure no one was within earshot he said, “Of course. Do you want me to stay or..?”

She saw him reach back for her hand and change his mind. If they were in his quarters or her office, she would just reach over and take it. This should not be so complicated. Again she had the thought that she really couldn’t stand people. She glanced out the door before looking at him, her face covered in a cold sweat. She also asked him to call the nurse before her stomach decided it wouldn’t rebel. In voice soft enough to not travel, “I’d really like you to stay, but I’ll be here awhile, so…”
Rand
Roman took a chair, and sat down, that look that said ‘this is what I’m doing and nothing is changing my mind’ on his face. “I’ll stay then. I’m off duty, after all, I have nowhere else to be.” She still looked like she didn’t feel good. A part of him hoped it would just come out, so they could stop hiding it, so he could be holding her hand or hug her. But the other side of him detested dealing with all the annoying and invasive questions that he was sure would come after people started finding out.
