At some point, he felt her hand come to his and he grabbed hold of it, enjoying the bright red colour of her face just then. Her slightly breathless voice only made it better. The last thing Roman wanted was for the moment to end, and with a small start he realized the door was still open, anyone walking past might see them. So, stretching his free hand over without letting go of Rand’s hand, he swung the door shut, closing them into the little broom closet of a room.

~ Roman

It was awkwardly wonderful just standing there staring at him with that grin. Then…he shut the door and Rand felt suddenly lightheaded and extremely nervous, and she ended up leaning against him slightly. The grin didn’t leave her face, but her eyes widened noticably and if possible she blushed even more. They were alone.

Rand

Roman could see Rand’s eyes widen and her reddened complexion darken further. She leaned against him, just slightly, but he put his arm around her and that pulled her a little closer, turning it into a somewhat awkwardly positioned, one armed hug. “We could always meet up after you’re off duty,” he suggested, speaking softly.

~ Roman

Rand turned slightly making the hug less awkward and slipped her arm around his waist. His arm made her feel warm and soft. She liked it when he hugged her. She was still breathless but she didn’t think she was going to panic, and she was still lightheaded but didn’t think she would faint. His suggestion gave her butterflies. She felt he deserved to be teased just a bit after he had and still was messing with her. “We can do that if you really want to go back to the lab and work with Nibbles,” she spoke just as softly, and convincingly misunderstood.

Rand

Roman glanced down at her, fooled. “Work? What about my quarters and some food?” Was he officially suggesting another date? He was. And he’d said work like it was the most ridiculous, farthest thing from his mind. His arm was still around her and her being there, leaned up against him made him feel warm, too, as he kept looking down at her to see what her answer was.

~ Roman

Rand blinked up at him, confused and…disappointed? No not at all, in fact the prospect of another date sent the butterflies winging around in her stomach. What gave the rouse away was the look in her eye. She was teasing him. Despite the fact she was teasing him and her voice was still soft, her heart was racing. “I…I don’na know. Dinner, alone, in yer quarters. Roman, yer English. My ancestors will go tae war again.” It was hard to be convincing when he kept looking at her like that, and a grin kept edging the corners of her mouth.

Rand

The look in her eyes gave her away, and Roman’s own grin returned once again. Her accent was coming out, purposefully for her teasing joke, but it was just as nice to hear as usual. “Well then, Juliet, let them,” He said, referring to Shakespeare. He knew she was kidding, teasing him back for earlier, but to him that made his answer better, and his look went back to the mischievous grin he’d worn before.

~ Roman

She grinned Juliet’s line coming instantly to her lips, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name, Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, / And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” Her eyes went a little wide and looked away flushed, biting her lip. Though the quote was accurate in context to his joke, the line was far more serious than appropriate to their situation…right or not? She wasn’t sure and nervousness brought another quote right on the heels of it, “O thou teach me how I should forget to think.” That’s how she felt, being this close to him made her muddle headed and she said things maybe she shouldn’t. But despite nervous she couldn’t bring herself to move away from him.

Rand

It took Roman longer to come up with the next line that felt applicable to play along with, but he recalled it in the end: “I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I’ll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo.” If it was too serious, Roman did not seem to notice or mind. In fact, he seemed to like it, because he hugged her a little tighter as he spoke, the line a little jolty as he tried to remember it word for word.

~ Roman

Rand gasped very softly, totally enraptured by the moment. She leaned in closer as he hugged her tighter and looked up at him. The line that came to mind was out of order, but…”So Romeo would, were he not Romeo called, Retain that dear perfection which he owes, Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name, which is no part of thee, Take all myself.” Why was it so easy to say when reciting lines, but not find her own words? The inability to know what to say was anxiety inducing and frustrating.
