No…no no no no. The rushing roar in her ears was immediate. She ground her teeth together to stop the fearful whimper from escaping. And her blood pressure and heart rate began to climb. She had thought Scott had let that go. The room spun and there was no Roman to make them leave this time. She hid her hands behind her back, twisting into the back of her shirt. “Nnn…nnn…No…I don’t… don’t suppose you would.” At least she was on the bed and couldn’t fall. Rand had the same look she had the day before when the nurse came in. Pale, clammy, and breathing funny.Rand
“I mean, isn’t that every little girl’s dream? And you were right there! I can’t imagine it, but I was never very good at…” Scott trailed off. The biobed was reading a high heart rate, with accompanying climbing blood pressure. Rand’s breathing had changed and she looked pale and clammy. Just like the day before. “Are… are you okay?”

Oh it had been her dream and some days she still did dream of it. “Not…not everyone has…has the same dream…I..I like my work.” The pain in her chest only confirmed to her she’d made the right choice. She shook her head, no, she wasn’t okay. Really if she wasn’t reliving the whole horrid experience being stuck in sickbay she might have been okay.
Rand
“Should I get the nurse?” Scott looked worried, gripping the side of the bed. Yesterday the nurse said she had a reaction to one of the medications, but… this didn’t really look like any reaction Scott knew of, not that she knew much about anything medical. But Scott didn’t know what else would be wrong.

Did she need the nurse? Probably. Did she want the nurse? No, not unless it was Randy. “No…jus…t..pan..panic.” Rand tried to breathe. It wasn’t like then she could calm down on her own. she…she’ll just give me…a…sedative. Then…then I can’t…work.”
Rand
Panic? Oooh, a panic attack! Wait, what?! No wooonder!! Scott’s expression was someplace between shocked and completely guilty. “Ooooohhh! I’m sorry, I didn’t know!” She said. That, well, it was certainly a reason acting didn’t work out. “You can’t possibly work that way anyway, wouldn’t it be better to take the sedative?” Scott asked.

Rand didn’t answer her for several minutes. Work helped. Having purpose, being useful, not being someone that always had to be looked after, helped. People didn’t understand that. After all these years she thought Randy was starting to, or at least he could accept it and allow her to do what helped her. Even if it didn’t make sense. She had to focus on relaxing muscles that had bunched and contracted and then breathe. Finally she shook her head, her voice quiet and a bit edgy, but clear. “Don’t be sorry.” She looked at Scott suddenly. She loved to gossip, oh no…she looked desperate, “Please…please don’t tell.”
Rand
There were several minutes of tense silence before Rand responded. Scott shook her head. “No, no, I promise I can keep a secret!” She liked to gossip, but she also liked to think she knew the difference between something ‘okay’ to tell and something to keep to herself. This would qualify as the latter even if Rand hadn’t specifically asked her not to spread it around. “I’m really sorry,” she apologized again. The other day in the lab, too, when Scott recognized her as an actress… that must have been the same thing.

Rand pulled her good leg up and draped her arms around the knee and hung her head, breathing slowly for a moment. “Thank you, but really it’s not your fault or anything you did.” Yes her constant reminders about Rand and Alden and her acting gave her huge anxiety that was not Scott’s fault. She looked at the reports. “I…I should probably get those done before they come back with the bone fuser again.”
Rand
“Oh! Right!” Scott said. “I should get going anyway, I’m still on the night crew, so I need to head to bed. But if you need anything I’m happy to help!” She stood from the chair and stretched. “Good luck with your reports, I guess.”
