Roman smiled and shrugged. Rand always liked his science explanations, he didn’t at all think she wasn’t interested. “It’s alright.” He said, and then he finished the explanation about how terraforming planets work, and how he’d heard the Caldos terraforming was supposed to work to make the planet resemble Earth’s United Kingdom’s climate.

Rand listened and at the end just shook her head a bit bemused. She understood his explanation, she couldn’t do it but she understood it. “How do people come up with these ideas? I understand how they go about proving it and perfecting it, but to come up with the basis and initial procedure… it’s mind boggling. For me anyway.” Such amazing minds to come up with how to make a planet have life where it could not before. Or create a cure for a poison or how to create a bone fuser to increase healing and shorten recovery time. Rand couldn’t fathom how they came up with it all.

“It is to me as well. To most scientists. That’s why we want to do our part to make it happen. To study until the impossible becomes possible.” Roman was always more interested in natural environments, animals. How species evolved over time. That was why his specialty was zoology. But he had always had interest in other branches of science, and during his time studying, he’d taken at least one class of chemistry, physics, ecology and environmental sciences, planetary science, biochemistry… He didn’t know enough in anything but his specialist to be considered any sort of expert, but he knew the basics of several fields.

Rand grinned, “It makes my vinegar and baking soda volcano from 1st grade look really uninteresting.” She was impressed by how much Roman knew. She supposed she knew just as much just about different topics. But then great literature wasn’t going to help transform a world. She yawned softly behind her hand. She wasn’t really tired, okay maybe with her foot and all she was, but she didn’t want to stop talking to him.

“What do you think my first year science project was?” Roman said and smiled again. Rand yawned, she must’ve been getting tired. It was getting kind of late, after all. He didn’t want to stop talking to her, but he didn’t want to keep her here if she wanted to go to sleep, so he said, “You’re getting tired?”
