“I can ‘pick you up’ so to speak,” Roman replied. The phrase didn’t fit perfectly but he got the idea. He hadn’t decided where, he was thinking either the lounge or his quarters, the latter being more private. Roman decided it was easier to simply ask. “Where do you want to eat?” He felt the need to glance quickly around the lab, ensuring no one had returned just yet. It wasn’t a secret, but it wasn’t anyone’s business, either.

Rand wasn’t sure about that. There were only so many places to actually eat on board. The idea of eating in the Galley made her more nervous than she cared to admit. She hated eating there anyway, people trying to talk to her while she had a mouth full of food, or was simply trying to unwind for a few minutes. And then they would all be watching them because people liked to gossip. It wasn’t that she felt they had to hide it, but Rand simply didn’t want to share it yet. Plus there was whoever was pranking her and Kovan and a couple others. Did she want to give them more information about herself? More ammunition? It was all good for Roman to tell her to report it and that whoever it was would be reprimanded, but so far they remained illusive. “I would rather not eat with the rest of the crew, just....us.” Where they would go she had no idea but she would rather be able to not worry about everything else.

Roman nodded. “My quarters, then.” There wasn’t really anywhere else that private on the ship, and there would be more than enough space to set up a table and two chairs. As for what they’d eat, well, Roman was no cook, having had other people cook for him his entire life, so he wasn’t sure. Getting something from the galley and bringing it up wasn’t an awful idea, was it?

“Okay.” Rand supposed that was the only real option unless they wanted Randy to join them. And though she was sure her brother would adore the opportunity to tease her relentlessly, he would have to get his jabs in later. And really it wasn’t like it was an unfamiliar location for her. She opened the lid again once Nibbles had moved away from that corner of the enclosure. She took another very small handful and scattered it around the cage. Nibbles watched her intently but didn’t offer to come over to her. She closed and locked the lid back and wrote down the rest of her observations, not much but that was okay as long as they were accurate. She glanced up at the chronometer. “I better go, it’s taking me a bit longer to get places today.” And the last thing she wanted was to end up in sickbay because she did something to her foot and have to miss dinner. She was really going to have to not think about that because she could already feel herself blushing. She grabbed her PaDD and headed toward the door. “Have a good afternoon, Cmdr,” she said as the lab techs started coming back in from their own lunch.

“Of course, see you later,” Roman said as she left. The lab techs started coming back and the lab became its normal busy place. By the end of the day there had been one small accident, a small mountain of paperwork, and a lot of notes to go over with officers.

Rand’s normal down time was taken up by her slower pace, but more by having to hand write all the reports. She was able to pull the reports from the departments on the computer; she just wasn’t able to print them because they looked like something a live sick middle schooler drew....and then she had a mild panic attack wondering if this person already knew about her and Roman. But what was to tell? They didn’t even know that yet. Or were they simply making fun of her being a yeoman?

He ended up out of the lab slightly late and hustled back to his quarters to set everything up. He set up a foldable table in the middle and borrowed the chairs from another part of the ship. He covered the table with a nice piece of fabric to be like a table cloth and make it look nicer. Then he got himself ready, switching from uniform to button-down shirt and slacks. He rebrushed out his hair and then headed down to the galley to get the food. Finally, at 1858 he was ready and outside her quarters, and he knocked softly at the door as he always did.

She finished with the evening reports and Cpt Rogers at 1840. That didn’t leave a lot of time and…well she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to wear. She certainly didn’t want to wear her uniform. It hadn’t sounded more dressed but she certainly didn’t want to dress like she was lounging around…pants or skirt or… or…or…? Where was Randy when she has fashion questions? Finally she put on a calf length flowing black skirt and a buttoned soft pink blouse. She brushed her hair out, leaving it down and then jumped at the sound of his soft knock on the door. She really shouldn’t be that nervous, should she? Wringing her hands to try and get the nerves out she opened the door. Oh, he really looks nice…

When the door opened, Roman smiled. “You look good,” he complimented, stepping aside so she could step out. “Shall I escort you to the restaurant au Roman?” He asked, a casual joke about their choice of eating locations. He was more excited than nervous, but that little bit of nervousness was still there.

Rand smiled softly in response, “Thank you. You look good out of uniform.” Oh Lord! Was it too late to compliment him since he had complimented her? Was what she said even appropriate? Oh this was already more complicated than she imagined. She did laugh at his joke though, appreciating the humor of the situation. She stepped out the door and walked down the corridor with him, even though she knew where they were going.

Roman led her the short distance down the hall to his own quarters. The room was incredibly neat and clean as always, and the food he’d retrieved from the galley was ready and still warm on the table. The table was set neatly in the proper order. In old fashioned style, he first pulled Rand’s chair out and allowed her to sit before taking his own seat.

Rand looked at the table, taking in every detail, the makeshift table cloth, the very formal place setting, the way he pulled her chair out. Rand was suddenly thankful for all those etiquette tutors she’d had for the part of Catherine in Wuthering Heights. She sat, with all the grace of a lady of regency England, but was thankful for the lack of petticoats, hoop skirts, and tule. The food was appetizing, but the cook was good at what he did. She assumed it was from the Galley since there were no food prep facilities here. She gave a murmured but genuine “Thank you” to his help with the chair, but then found she was rather tongue tied.
