Rand set her tricorder down carefully so it would continue to record the meeting and quietly stepped to the back of the room pulling out her communicator. =C= Rand to Sentinel. Lt Fordham would like 7 (ooc: that’s how many on landing party by my last count but if that is wrong please correct the number) of the copper tubed type 3 phaser rifles beamed down to us. Lt Cmdr Alden would like scans of the surface looking for life signs in the mines that are nearby the colony (ooc: it didn’t say exactly where just near by so I’m specifically referring to the new mines that Bor said they had just opened and where the problems are), as well as any chemical analysis that can be done and geological scans as well to give the team and idea of how stable the mines are before we enter them.=C=

After getting a response, Rand returned to her seat and slipped the strap of the tricorder back over her shoulder while it continued to record.

Ford watched Rand back off and heard the tell-tale sound of the communicator; he nodded while listening to the conversation between Cleolet and Bor, mentally adding an item to his check list. “We’ll stop by the equipment before we head down,” he said to the engineer, “so you can check it out.”

He turned his head toward Rand, now back in place with them. “Have them let us know when they’re ready to drop those rifles to us, and we can let them know where.”

He faced Bor again. “If you could show us to the equipment, please.” His statement was a request, but his tone made clear it was not.

Bor called in another deputy, “..This is deputy Charles. He will conduct you to wherever you need to go in the colony while I go over other matters with these two.” He said.

Charles looked then to the landing party members, “..So where you Fleeties wanna go first? I overheard Administrator Bor’s reply about our equipment, pretty much anything and everything has had some problem over the past weeks, so just let me know what you wanna see first.” He said leading the group outside the office to talk further.

Cleolet thought for a few seconds “I think whatever was affected the most recently would be a good place to start. There might be more trace there then something that was effected a few days ago” she said looking at her superiors for permission.

Ensign Cleolet (Engineer)

Roman agreed with Cleolet’s assessment. Fresh tracks were always more valuable than stale ones, and chasing down stale tracks would allow the fresh ones to become stale. However, Ford was the lead today, and so Roman let him make the decision.

“That sounds perfect, Ensign Cleolet,” he answered her gaze. “Please let Yeoman Farquharson know if you need any equipment from the ship.”

Cleolet Nodded “Yes Sir” she replied respectfully

”..Fair enough, that would be the secondary solar panel generators to the south side of the colony proper. If you folks would follow me we can go now, long as you don’t mind getting wet from that storm raging outside.” He said inclined his head to the window where rain pelted the frame.

Cleolet looked at the window and shrugged “A little rain never hurt anyone. Besides we’ll dry off” she said as she thought about what Charles had said “I think you might have just started narrowing down the problem” she said simply “Its not a problem with the main reactor then. Other wise the solar panel wold be unaffected. perhaps its some sort of energy drain” she said as she started thinking to herself.

Rand followed them outside but stopped in the hallway to answer her com.

Meanwhile a chirp chirp came from Rand’s communicator. =/\= NE Barney here, got those scan results for you all. =/\= He said.

Once a tricorder was setup to receive the information soon flowed through. Life sign scans of the nearby mines picked up 8 humans outside its perimeter likely on security duty from the colony. Inside the mines down to a depth of 1.5 miles picked up no life signs. Further scans from depth were sketchy due to the composites of the depositing minerals in the mines. Chemical analysis came up clean of any obviously known gases or the like. The oxygen in the mine was fairly stable, and fresh circulated by the internal tunnels and rebreathers for life support in the mines which still fed power from the colony site. Geological scans reported high rich dilithium and lithium deposits as well as quartz, and other lesser minerals in various quantities. All in all a quite rich mine all things considered. How said mine and tunnels swallowed up almost 30 some people by now remained a mystery they would have to delve into further on foot.

=/\= Also we only got 5 type-3 phaser rifles, we’re a ship of exploration not war after all. Those will be beamed down in a minute or two. =/\= Barney went on then.

=C=Understood Barney. My error, I shall correct my notes.=C= In fact Rand had no idea how many they had, she didn’t have the security clearance for that. She just assumed Ford would want one per officer, and if not the others could be beamed back. But now she knew how many and she’d not miscount again.

Sure to his word a whine of the transporter was heard and five Type-3 phaser rifles appeared in plastic shipping boxes ready for use.

=C=Package received Sentinel. Landing party out.=C= Rand flipped her communicator closed and replaced it on her belt.

“Lt Fordham, your rifles are arriving…there.” She pointed off to the left where the box appeared. Then she approached Lt Cmdr Alden. “Cmdr I have the scan results you wanted.” She flipped open her tricorder, connecting a wire to a port on his and transferred the results of the scans so he could examine them at will. Once finished she disconnected the two devices and walked back over to Ford. “Lt would you care to see the scan results as well?” Ford didn’t have a tricorder with him so she’d have to let him use hers for the moment.
Yeoman Rand

“Thank you, Yeoman,” said Roman, reading the scans as soon as they transferred to his own device.

Ford immediately opened the packing box and began handing out the rifles to the security officers - Smith, Siruk, and Bolurson. He kept one for himself, slung over his shoulder, and hefted the last one, turning to Alden. “You want this, Commander, or should I give it to Anderson?”

“I’d be happy to have it, Lieutenant,” said Roman, accepting the last rifle.

After handing over the last rifle he nodded to Rand, accepting her tricorder. He flipped through the readings, humming to himself. “Mister Bor, do your miners, or the constables who went down after, usually bring any environmental gear with them? Supplementary oxygen, that sort of thing? How extensive is the rebreather system down there?” He didn’t want them to accidentally end up in a situation where they would be without the necessary air.

COS Ford

Cleolet listened to the conversation as she walked. If she was right the others could be in danger, as if it was power drain, even if they had a fantastic system it could still fail. Maybe they should have some EV suits beamed down just in case. She’d make her suggestion later. For now she was content to listen to the others after all it might come up in conversation.

Ensign Cleolet (Engineer)

Having examined the scans, Roman read out the results. “No life signs besides the security team to a depth of 1.5 miles. No obvious gases or anything else dangerous,” he said. “I’m no geologist but this is quite a rich mine. And no clues as to where the crew went, or what happened to them.”
