Posted by… suppressed (2) by the Post Ghost! 👻Eli nodded, “Well Captain is fine when we’re on the bridge but I suppose Eli or Mike will work for me too.” The >Captain looked out of the window towards the ship that was the Sentinel, his ship. “She’s certainly a fine vessel, I >hear we have the fastest warp core to date.” It wasn’t entirely true all the independence class ships which had been >built at the same shipyard had similarly fast engines but he hoped his Chief Engineer could do some improvements >to get that little extra out of her. “Have you been on board yet?”
Captain Elijah Carmichael
Paul crossed his arms. “Good to know Mike.” He said then shook his head. “Not yet. Had a minor argument over which medical supplies they were sending aboard with some guy from the quartermaster so that detained me.” He admitted.
“I have never understood the human preoccupation with excess speed,” came a voice from behind the group. Were >they to turn, they would find a tall and slender Vulcan female standing rigidly with hands behind her back. She was >dressed in the regulation attire of a Starfleet engineer, although the manner with which she regularly smoothed >down the skirt suggested it was not an outfit with which she was entirely comfortable.
Comfortable enough, however, to continue speaking.
“To arrive at one’s destination with minimal casualties, both biological and mechanical, is a greatly more desirable >outcome than beating the other starships in the fleet.” She delivered the last half of the sentence as if it the words >had been bitter on her tongue.
Lt Cmdr T’Pria (CE)
Paul smirked to himself wondering how she would react to his previous chosen vocation.
“Ah Lieutenant Commander T’Pria, come now even a Vulcan can appreciate the ability to be the first there or get >somewhere quicker?” Eli said with a smile, “Besides wheres your sense of competition, you’re telling me that you’d >happily sit in first gear while the rest of the fleet run in sixth?” Eli hadn’t dealt much with Vulcans but he had heard >they were infuriatingly logical about everything and had very little in terms of emotions.
Captain Elijah Carmichael
T’Pria offered a small bow in respectful greeting to her new Captain. However, any reverence was dispensed with quickly as she once again began to speak.
“Whilst as your chief engineer I can certainly appreciate the technological capabilities of our vessel and, indeed, even wish to highlight some of those capabilities to others to enhance their education, I consider stability of the warp core and efficient power distribution to all primary systems of equal importance to velocity. After all, Captain, is it not a common saying of your people that ‘more haste equals less speed?’”
The Vulcan shook her head. “Whatever that is supposed to mean.”“Hail, hail, the gang’s all here,” Ford said, a wry grin on his face. “I’m Lieutenant Fordham,” he said, extending his hand to his new superior officer. “Recently assigned as your chief of security.” He paused briefly. “But call me Ford. Everyone has for as long as I remember.”
He looked around the observation area. “Is our science officer or first officer hiding here somewhere, too?”
COS Ford
As if on cue, Roman chose that moment to make his entrance, strolling lesiurely in. He had already met the Captain, but had yet to meet the rest of the senior officers. He took a quick look about the room, at each of the others present, then chose a place to take a seat.
“I see we’ve got a small party in here, eh?” He said, seeming amused. His accent, like the Captain’s originated from southern England, and his words were clearly enunciated in what one would call the region’s “posh” accent. He sat back in his place, making himself right at home.
~ Lt Cmdr Alden, XO
The doctor raised both us eyebrows at the new crew member who must be the new executive officer. “oh yeah, pull up a chair why dontcha.” He said with a grin. “The more the merrier. Though you might want to limit any sort of board room only talk.” He scowled at a passing NE who hurriedly sped up away from the group. He offered his hand “Paul Hudson. They call me Doc.” He said.
Roman returned an even, unbothered look to Paul. Then he shook his hand. “Roman Alden. I’ve heard about you,” he said.
What’s the best way for a Yeoman to be up on all the ship’s details that a captain might need to know? Observing, so with that in mind Rand drug Randy back to K5 to the lounge to get a good look at the outside of the Sentinel, but also to observe the crew. Randy was an expert at that and Rand felt he needed reminding. They took a seat across the room and got a nice seat to observe the senior staff as well. “Randy, did you SEE that power move right there! They’re all standing and gawking at the ship out the window. XO just came right in gave them a once over and sat down. Like he owns the place. That’s who you’re working for. Now you tell me Mr Counselor, what that says.” Looks over at Randy, “Okay seriously, that was HOT!”
En. RandRandy wanted to punch his sister’s arm gently there but looked over and said, “Girl you you want to know what I think? I think he’s had something to prove all his life and the ‘power move’ is a well rehearsed way that he can assert dominance in a room because somewhere deep down he was once unsure of himself for whatever reason that may be. Now look at him, he is confident and assertive, seems to be always sure of himself. If I had to guess, he rarely doubts his abilities and may come off as slightly condescending or cold. Which, you know I’m looking forward to… Now are we talking about his ‘appeal’?” Randy said as he cleared his throat, “He chose to take a seat in a prominent location to showcase those strong features and muscular body. Now just look at that square jaw coupled with the, as you put it, chocolaty accent? Girl I think you’ve already got yourself a crush!”
En. Randy
Rand looked at her brother wide eyed before clapping a hand right across his mouth. “You hush!” She dropped her hand and her voice to barely a whisper before she drew any attention to themselves. “Alright, I’ll admit he’s physically attractive, but that does not mean I have a crush. I haven’t even met him yet, but,” and she grinned at Randy, “that was impressive. And he’s almost as good as you at showing off all those strong features.” She chuckled and then grabbed his arm, standing up. “Come on, let’s either get food or head back. First let’s stroll for a closer look at the ship.” She nodded with her chin to a small group of junior officers that were engaged in quite the attempt to hide their poker game from the senior staff.
Randy wanted to giggle but refrained as best he could. Oh Rand would hear about this later of course.

Ford watched Alden sit, then looked at Doc, T’Pria, and the Cap, all standing, then back to Alden, arching an eyebrow. A little ways beyond the seated man, he spotted two younger officers watching them; he recognized the young woman as the captain’s yeoman from the crew profiles he’d reviewed, but couldn’t place the other. Though the two did bear a similar resemblance to each other…
He shifted his attention back to the Sentinel tethered to the outer docking arm. “So when do we get to board?” he asked.
COS Ford
Paul threw his hands up. “Who knows but I’m going to go ask one of the goons at the docking port. I want to make sure the quartermaster didn’t sneak that rubbish back into my sickbay.” He said with another frown.
Doc Hudson
CMO“No need Doctor, I’ve already spoken to the quartermaster and the stations commander. Department heads will be granted access tomorrow morning followed by the main bulk off the crew over the next few days once the Starbases engineering division have deemed it ready for embarking for now however should we perhaps consider a drink, a toast even?” He asked considering his senior staff.
- Captain Elijah Carmichael
“I trust that my team will be allowed sufficient time to verify all of the primary systems and the general quality of construction before setting out?” T’Pria asked Carmichael, before adding in somewhat more clipped tones, “Unlike our last voyage?”
“That’s the Plan but like all best-laid plans, they never make it past the first test. If there are any changes to our schedule You’ll be the first to know.” Elijah smiled at their Vulcan companion, he’d never worked alongside one before and was looking forward to the challenge.
Outside, the shuttle made a few more trips around the Sentinel, before finally heading to the aft. With a smooth, sharp u-turn the shuttle made its’ way to the opening shuttle bay doors. With the bay doors barely opened to the width of the shuttle, the pilot squeezed her through the doors and gently set her down on the deck.
When the bay had re-pressurized, the shuttle door popped open and the gangway descended. Chief Kohana Black Wolf exited, with his duffel bag thrown over his shoulder. He made his way to the doors leading out into the corridor when he was stopped by a security ensign blocking his way.
“Can I see your boarding orders, Chief?’ the NE inquired. Kohana handed the man a yellow computer chip which was slid into the console. A moment later, the computer replied, “Senior Chief Petty Officer Kohana Black Wolf, Chief Flight Officer, USS Sentinel. Identity confirmed.”
Returning the chip, the NE said, “Welcome aboard, Chief Black Wolf, though next time, you may want to wait until the hangar bay doors are fully open.”
Looking at the NE with a smirk, Kohana replied, “Ensign, I’ve been flying shuttles since before you were even an itch in your daddy’s pants. Next thing you’ll be telling me is that I’m not allowed to buzz the bridge. You worry about security, I’ll worry about flying, okay?”
Without waiting for a reply, the helmsman headed foe his new quarters. . . .
SCPO Black Wolf (Helm)
For a brief moment, at the sight of Helmsman Black Wolf’s arrival, the Vulcan engineering chief appeared almost distracted. Although surely the flushing of her cheeks was merely an effect of the harsh overhead lighting and in no way indicative of her emotions at seeing the man again…
“A toast! That is a fantastic idea, Captain,” he said, in response to Eli. From his seat, Roman had a clear view both of the room and outside the observation windows. And the Sentinel was a wonderful looking ship to be sure. What better way to bring together the senior staff, both old and new, than with a toast and a drink?
~ Lt Cmdr Roman Alden, XO
“Ah yes, the seemingly irresistible conflation of alcohol and advanced technology,” T’Pria remarked dryly to the new XO. “Let us hope, Commander, that you offer a higher quality liquor than the random, replicated concoctions of your predecessor.”
- Lt Cmdr T’Pria (CE)
“Yeomans, please find the best bottle of port you can find,” He said directing the order to the two Yeoman who had seemingly entered a while ago but remained on the fringes. “And be quick, something tells me were in for a busy day.” Elijah always expected the worst and though at this moment he couldn’t know he felt that something was coming around the corner.
- Captain Elijah Carmichael
Rand did a quick about face to face the captain, man she’s was off duty too! Oh well, “Aye, Sir.” She poked Randy in the side and they disappeared behind the counter. She grabbed a tray and 6 glasses. “Randy, down there left cabinet bottom self, is the real stuff, top notch too.” Randy was a master at being a bar tender. Rand slid one glass at a time over to him to pour the drinks.
En RandThe yeoman second class gulped as he exhaled while waking to the back of the bar and looking down to the bottles. He had convinced his sister and their friends back home that he was a master and practiced how to make a few drinks well but was clueless if someone just gave him an order. I t was a bottle of Port, oh thank heavens! Randy could make it look like he knew how to pour wine! He bent over and rummaged through the bottles and implements. He grabbed the bottle, a cork puller, and a decanter. He pulled the cork and poured the entire bottle in the decanter, swirling it around carefully before he took a linen cloth and grabbed each glass so as to not get fingerprints on them and poured the decanted wine into the bottles. Do you need to decant Port? Randy had no idea but it looked very professional all the same. He set the glasses expertly on the tray and handed it to his sister with a mock sense of formality “Here you go madam”
En Randy
Rand took the cloth, draping it over an arm and lifted the tray and balanced it on one hand and making her way through the crowd she lifted the tray over her head and back down as she weaved and turned making her way back to the senior staff. She returned the tray to two hands and held it out to the captain first. “Your port, captain.”
Then she moved to the XO, “Cmdr.”
And then among the rest of the senior staff. Then turning back to the captain, “Would you like anything else sir?” in an attempt to be professional while in her civilian dress rather than her uniform.
