Radal had been lounging on K-5 for a little before deciding it was time to head off to is first post. The young man of 23, bag slung over his shoulder strolled onto the ship, dress fluttering wonderfully above those fantastic knee length boots. His ‘older’ sister had been appointed the Captain’s Yeoman a little while ago and Randal, or Randy as he was better known because it was a shortening of the name but also a general outlook on life that he held, was to train with her and act as a blended role onboard the ship so that he could use his masters degree hopefully. He smirked as he twirled in the hall, freedoms were abound on a ship when he approached the quarters he was assigned. There was a name already there, ‘Rand Kabil’ and he said to no one in particular, “Ah, home sweet home”. He tapped the panel and entered the room. Finding trademarks of his sister everywhere. “And you thought you got this whole place to yourself didn’t you sis?” He said with a chuckle, pushing the piles off of what was to be his bed and hopped onto it, laying on his back and wondering just how Rand was going to react to him being there.

Randy Kabil

Rand had finished going over the senior staff reports and adjusting the captain’s schedule before the captain left for his first set of meetings. He’d page her if he needed anything. She’d then stocked a first aid kit for him in the bathroom and then replaced the towel he’d got blood on. She made arrangements with the mess to have his bagel ready every morning for her to pick up and she stocked his blend of coffee. She looked around his quarters, nodded with satisfaction at the uniform laid out on the stand and made sure his dress uniform was clean and pressed as well. She turned a neat, beatiful pirroet in the room and boots clicking stylishly on the floor exited the COs quarters and strode across the hall. She it the button, the door sliding open and stepped in with the intention of finishing unpacking. She knew there would be a secondary Yeoman at some point that she would have to share with, maybe. If she did a good enough job the captain may not want another and she’d have the space to herself, but…someone had been through her things. Stuff was everywhere! Why? She came around the corner, spoted the body, in a red uniform dress, black knee high boots, and dark hairy legs, impressively muscular legs, but still. “RANDY!” Rand rushed across the room, pouncing onto the bed, landing right on top of her brother. “How did you get here?”

Randy was kicking one of those fantastic boots up and down when he heard the door woosh and a wry little smile grew on his lips. He knew that his sister was going to freak out and he was right! He heard the cry and felt the whump as he let out a cough and said, “Hey sis.... miss me?” He sounded strained, his own slight build wasn’t the most robust and his sister’s pounce was probably to be expected but still it took the wind from his lungs. He pushed her off to the side and rolled himself out of the bed and stood up. “Is that your bed? Man you’d think you would still have your stuffed kelpie Yaluk sitting on your pillow!” He teased as he straightened his dress and looked at her and said, Girl, look at you rocking those boots with those lovely legs and such. I really think I should shave my legs too, that’ll make this lovely color pop don’tcha think?” he said, motioning to his uniform. “So which side of the room is mine? We haven’t shared a room since we were in 3rd grade!”

Randy Kabil

“Miss you? That doesn’t begin to describe the utter all encompassing loneliness that your lack of presence brings. The sun is shinning aga…URGH!” Rand was pushed right off the bed to land in a rather inglorious heap on the floor. She grabbed a pair of rolled socks and chucked them at him. “Hey! The floor’s hard!” She pulled herself up and grinned at her twin, and then flushed bright red and pointed at the other bed. There was Yaluk propped on the pillow. Randy gave it to her when they were six. She never went anywhere without it. But she would not take that sitting on the floor. She marched right over to his bag, her heels clicking a beautiful staccato that held years of purpose in them and he knew....but she beat him to the bag. Digging for the hidden pocket out came Ahluic, the stuffed giraffe came out. “I knew you didn’t forget him!” She did a small runway walk for him. “I do make them look good. Wait…what?” and broke into fits of giggles at the thought of watching her brother shave his legs. “That side” she point to the far side of the room. “That way I don’t have to go past you if I get called by the captain while you are sleeping.” And in typical Rand fashion she rushed her bother again, jumping that the last second so she could hug him.

Randy let out a childish giggle as he interrupted his sister and then the flash of dread crosses his face. “No no no no no no” He says as he tries to lunge at her and stop her from pulling out his own treasured animal. She had given it to him a week or so after he got her the stuffed kelpie and was as fond of it as his sister was fond of Yaluk. Having been beaten to his bag his face went a deep red before grabbing at Ahluic and placing him under his arm, much like a pouting child would. He glared at his sister and said, “Of course I didn’t forget him! You know I haven’t let him out of my sight in 17 years!” As he pouted a smile grew and grew as he was beaming by the time his sister realized his comment and started to giggle. He tossed Alhuic onto what was his bed and braced himself for his sister’s hug. The pounce hug was something she did with him constantly growing up and showed no sign of letting up. Had they been on each other’s nerves? Oh at each other’s throats from time to time. But that wasn’t going to get in the way of his happiness to see her. “I’ve missed you too sis.” He said as he spun her around before setting her down and letting go, sitting himself on his bed and crossing a leg while placing his hands on one knee, looking rather nice as he would think. “So. Tell me all about this ship Rand, I want all the deets girl.”

Ensign Randy

She laughed as Randy spun her around. This assignment was going to be SO much better with him here. “Let. Me. Tell. You…” she drug it out, “I have no idea. I got here yesterday and had time to eat, transfer a few files, and pass out.” She cleaned up some of the clothes he had tossed to the floor. “I know he’s older than me, but the CO has an accent that could melt ice. Southern England if I’m not mistaken. And the XO is from the same area. It will be like chocolate for the ears when we’re on the bridge.” She knew he would want to know what the CO said or did about her as his Yeoman but right now was gab fest. “The sous chef in the mess I bet money has the hots for the Gamma shift security lead. That’s doomed, red shirt and all. But when he walked in, she turned bright read and dropped a whole pan of tamales all over the floor.” She straightened the bed and grabbed another stack of clothes off the floor. “We will be making a trip a few decks down. There is a gym on board, we both have our figures to maintain, and I want to watch all those flexing muscles, and you like to show off yours.” She looked around, “Randy toss me that clean uniform. I got cream cheese and salmon all over me cleaning up the CO’s breakfast. Tripped on a stray boot. I have a bunch of meeting to attend with the captain and I need to change.” She stepped into the bathroom to grab her brush and started working the knots out. “OH and I was doing a whirlwind self tour of the ship. Found Nurse Smith down in engineering asking one of the crewmen if he could purposely make the science 2 station short out. She’s got an eye for Timmons and wanted him to need to get check out, so she could do it. She saw me, asked who I was. When I told her the CO’s yeoman, she left tire tracks on the deck plates she ran out of there so fast.”

Now Randy had, at present, no idea who any of these people were. Oh but he would know, he would know all of them very well. If anything he’ll know their gossip well right? “What my sister doesn’t have the entire roster memorized, the ships duty roster down pat, and the layout of each corridor to heart? What happened to those legendary study skills and that memory like a steel trap you always rubbed in my face hmm?” He stood and strode around the room, wondering exactly how he was going to spruce up the place as he listened. Upon hearing about the two lovely accents he swooned and pretended to pantomime a posh high society English woman before asking, “Wait, both men right? That’s a shame. I’d love to work for a lovely dame with a voice as rich and saucy as a torta de mil hojas. But yes I can certainly appreciate a strapping Captain and XO with that sultry southern English accent.” He as listening to the gossip about the sous chef when he grabbed the the uniform and tossed it to his sister and sat back down, leaning over and resting his chin on his hand and sighed “Why am I not surprised sis? You’re the clumsiest person I know. I still love ya even if I’m going to have to keep you out of my dresses.” He teased and his eyes went wide. “Wait wait, Rudolf Timmons? Have you met him?” Randy said as he looked around if anyone was watching, not that they could but he wanted to play up the scene, “He was a semester ahead of me at the academy and Timmons got so drunk on Tarkelian whiskey that he made out with the statue of Cochran on campus!”

Ensign Randy

Rand stuck her tongue out at her brother. “I was tired last night! I didn’t get the rosters till 2200 last night, and you weren’t on it! That’s not fair!” She caught the uniform, in a ball, and with a squeak quickly shook it out so it didn’t wrinkle. She stepped into the bathroom to change, calling out so he could hear her. “Oh yes we must find you a woman with a voice and can make a to die for torta. “Your dresses? I think not. They’ll be mine, the colors are all wrong for you. You have amazing skin tone, but you don’t use it.” Rand stepped out and looked her brother over. “And that blue black hair. Let me spike it, small spikes, like you just rolled out of bed and were ready to go. Please, Randy? I promise it will look AHHH-mazing.” She tossed the dirty uniform in the chute. “Yes Rudolf Timmons, why?” She listened with growing horror and peels of laughter. “Oh no he didn’t? The…” laughter “the…the life…” more peels of laughter. “The life size one in the middle of the quad? Where all the security cameras point?”

“Girl, you know always how to make me look my best. And what do you mean not my colors? Do you really think that the Captain will let me wear that emerald green dress? I know he’s got that half tunic thing, but I mean I guess I can try it right?” Randy said as he got up and sat down in front of the mirror, letting his sister take full control of his hair style. “Ok so this XO, what do you know about him? Besides a sultry chocolaty accent? After all he is my charge right? I’m going to have to take care of him like you take care of the Captain.”

“I’m not talking about uniforms and I don’t think the captain will let you wear your personal dress on duty, but off duty is up to you.” Rand started finger combing Randy’s hair and shook her head, she pulled out a pair of scissors and got to work. It was too long, but soon she had it cut short, but too long to be called a buzz. “Yes you will be working for him like I do the captain. But your other duties will keep you busy. The XO doesn’t usually have a yeoman so it’s just to give you experience. Chief Science Officer and Executive Officer, Lt. Cmdr. Alden, Roman. 28 years old, Human, born on Earth. Salisbury England. Speaks English, French, Spanish, and German. He has a burn on his right shoulder, and has a huge family. Specializes in biology, with a PhD, and life sciences. His first CSO position was given to him 2257 on the Ardent. Later a promotion to Lt and CSO of the Victoria. He enjoys Fencing, Jiu Jitsu, horseback riding, animal raising specifically horses and dogs, and plays the violin. His file says that his family was totally against his joining Star Fleet, but he joined anyway and has distinguished himself. So you know he’s stubborn and thinks for himself. He is described as confident and assertive by his superior officers, but has been called condescending or cold by his peers. However his actions belie that statement and his record indicates that is a misunderstanding and is an excellent team player and cares about those around him. So professionalism but honesty is what I suggest. But YOU are the psychology major, you’ll have to decide for yourself.”

Randy let out a breath slowly through pursed lips and said, “Girl this is why I would have you screen anyone I dated when we were younger. I’m surprised you didn’t tell me his favorite color of lolipop when he was 5 years old! Now do you know how much of that information I’m going to retain?” He asked, raising an eyebrow to his sister in the mirror. “Just enough to make you look good and nothing else!” He smirked as his sister did a fantastic job.

“I expect that you’ll retain all of it. You have never forgotten a single detail about a person. Maybe the geometry proofs we used to have to write for Mr. Gunderson, but not details about people. And I’ll keep screening your girlfriends. No one is good enough for you.” She wagged a finger at him from her reflection in the mirror.

Randy continued to shift as needed, he popped his shoulders and held himself stable in the chair. “I’ve been thinking on how I can make my mark sis, and I know you’re supposed to train me right? How can I best serve your image. I mean let’s be honest, I’d like to use my Masters rather than be a Yeoman. Nothing wrong with that, but I want to make you look good rather than harm your position here.”

Ensign Randy

She got hair gel and started running it through his hair, creating a spiky effect all over his head. The blue black of his hair more stunning for the gel in it. “Hey none of that. You are an excellent officer, top of your class. You do what you’ve always done and I’ll be proud of you. There will be room for you to use your masters. People always have problems they need to talk about. And I help the CO with crew profiles and evals, I’ll put it in his ear to ask you about it. You’re the expert there. We’ll do what we always do, play on our strengths, together. Right?” She hugged him around the shoulders and gave him a sisterly kiss on the cheek. She picked up a mirror and held it behind him. “What do you think?”
En Rand

As the cold gel spiked his hair wonderfully he heard the sister’s chastisement and rolled his eyes hard enough that if it were possible they’d pop out and continue rolling on the floor. “None of that? Rand you know as well as I do that you are the better student, better people person, and better officer. The only reason I got a Masters was to have something to distinguish myself from the illustrious Rand. I know we used to fight over ‘who was the favorite’ but I think we both know that it’s you girl. Now I don’t want you telling me that I’m wrong because I’m not trying to start anything, after all I requested you specifically to train me. The reason I wasn’t on that little roster of yours is because I wasn’t originally supposed to be here. But your little brother pulled some strings and made sure he was going to be with the best. So when I say I want to make sure you look good I mean it.”

She swatted his shoulder, hard. “People person? Me? Uh huh! Who walked me through every panic attack on the first day of school? Who snuck an ear bud to me and told me jokes through my first presentations? Who stood in line for Santa twice because I was to afraid to talk to him? Who stayed up all night on the comms with me while I cried the night before my Academy yeoman appointment? Who charms every one, guy and gal, in a room without batting an eye, unless it’s for effect. Who saw the fights brewing in the school yard before they started? And who interned in the VA hospital and had such good results they were offered to be the head of the department but turned it down to come to star fleet with his anxiety ridden sister? I got here because you showed me how. You’re a counselor, Randal. Your expertise is people. I did well in school because it was easier to put my nose in the book than deal with talking to people.”

Randy looked at his hair and hugged his sister and spun around in the chair, “Rand it looks fantastic as always. And you’re right. I fully plan on making sure we work our best strengths together, and I’d appreciate that word in with the Captain. I’d love to use my education to help people, but when I didn’t see that Starfleet had positions for counselors I figured I’d work with the best officer I knew.” He said with a wink and a smile.

Ensign Randy

Rand grinned, “Of course you picked me, you had to find someone better than you, and that’s a short list of one!” She laughed and spun the chair around again with him in it. “We’re going to do fine, right? Though the ensign stripes are hard to get used to. The captain seems very competent. He knew you were coming, I thought it was a joke, at my expense when he mentioned. Showing me he knew as much about me as I did about the crew. He picked you, so feel good about that.” She became thoughtful. “You know what I bet ships are going to get counselors as standard eventually. I have you seen the reports of how many people crack under the strain of star ship service? You have the chance to do something about it, and you will do great.”
