Royal had barely finished unpacking his office when he received a call from Star Fleet Medical. As he activated the comms, the familiar face of Admiral Dorchet filled the screen and she smiled at Royal. “Hello, Commander. I trust the last minute transfer was as uneventful as possible?” asked the woman in a friendly tone. As she was the ultimate authority concerning the psychological and psychiatric departments of Star Fleet Medical, Sinclair knew that tone was sincere, but could also show disappointment just as quickly.“Yes, Ma’am. Didn’t take to long at all.” Sinclair replied. The Admiral smiled and said “Good. Now then… I know you and I spoke briefly about the issues the Saracen currently faces from a mental hygiene standpoint. Have you had a chance to speak with Captain Knight?” “Yes, Ma’am. We had a very pleasant introduction yesterday. He expressed some concerns that I will make a priority, and then I will start on getting the evaluations up to date for all personnel. I should be able to get them done before the ship leaves after repair, Admiral.”
“Good.” replied Dorchet. “She’s been without a Counselor for a bit, now. I am concerned that the workload may be a bit outside your comfort area. This is your first true posting as - ” and Sinclair cut her off. “Ma’am. With all due respect. I can handle the work. And the assignment doesn’t intimidate me. You should know that, Admiral. I was the first person in your Neurobiological course to receive the highest marks in twenty years. The last person to do so is now… oh, yes. Your Adjunct, Vice Admiral Bojan.” Sinclair said with a wry smile. He knew the Admiral had hated giving him the mark he earned, but with that came a two-way respect and the new path Royal now found himself on.
The Admiral shot him a look that was only half-serious. “You know, some Admirals would take that insubordination, Lieutenant Commander Sinclair.” and Sinclair winked at her. “Some would indeed, Ma’am.” and the woman laughed. “Royal, what ever am I going to do with you? If I didn’t know in my heart that you were going to make a great asset to the Saracen, I would probably have brought you onto my staff.” When she said that, Royal shook his head. “No thank you, Admiral. You and I both know that me behind a desk that isn’t on a ship would be a recipe for disaster.” and he chuckled. The Admiral looked at him and said softly. “You are probably right.” and then she straightened up in her chair and said “I want all personnel evaluated and fitness reports on my desk 48 hours prior to Saracen’s departure, Commander. If anyone is deemed unsuitable for duty, they will be transferred off at the station and reassigned as necessary. Get to work.” and the comms cut out immediately.
Sinclair leaned back and looked around the office. It was inviting, subtly relaxing, and not quite as brightly lit as the rest of the ship. There was his desk in one corner, a couch and chair on one wall; a chair in front of the desk but facing the couch and chair across a small table. The place had a warm feel to it, and Sinclair made sure that the room was secure from eavesdropping daily.
“Ok.” he said to himself. “Let’s get to work.”

OOC: Loved your post, Hail Kvaar’ton!

The rounds Kalika made were not just superficial. She took her job very seriously. Places that were high security and sealed were her responsibility to check. So it wasn’t unusual to see her wandering down the corridor towards the Councilor’s office. She had decided to check the office before heading to her own office for the morning. So it also wasn’t a surprise that she wasn’t aware of the new Counselor that had boarded.
As she tapped in her code to open the door, she stepped in and stopped with a gasp, hand on her phaser as she saw the man in the room. “I… forgive me. Who are you?” The half breed was more Klingon looking than human. But to anyone proficient in the telling, they would notice a softness to her that the angular Klingon features lacked. And if Kane was familiar with the supervisory staff, it wouldn’t be hard to put her name to her face. Sha Triton was standing there, staring at him with one hand still on the sensor that would keep the door open beside her. “I am assuming you are ‘supposed’ to be here?” She had dark hair, long and plaited down her back, as well as eyes that shone. While there was a curious warning to her voice, there was no maliciousness in her face. So far, anyway, she wasn’t seeing him as a threat… merely a curiosity.

CoSThe man seated behind the desk looked up immediately as the doors slid open unexpectedly, and he was on his feet much more quickly than most would think a man of his size could move. Once he was on his feet, the figure was almost seven feet in height, broad shouldered, with blonde hair cut in a military high and tight style. He was dressed in the blue uniform of the Medical Section, and Lieutenant Commander pips shined bright on his collar. Bright blue eyes looked at the new arrival and in a voice that seemed used to being heeded, he said “I am, Ensign. But you are not. At least, not without an appointment. Now take your hand off that sidearm, come inside, close the door, and let’s try this first impression again, shall we?”

Had she been mere human, raised on Earth and not subjected to the Klingon home world as a child, the man before her would have frightened her witless. As it was, he merely startled her. His height certainly caught her interest, or at the very least, her attention. At his mention of her side arm, she at least had the presence of mind to actually bite her lip a moment and murmur. “Sorry…” She stepped inside just enough to let the door slide with a whispered ‘hiss’ behind her. “I’m Ensign Triton, the ships Chief of Security. Last I heard, this was an empty compartment. Though I will admit, I have not seen this morning’s assignments. So if you are the new Counselor, then I will extend my apology.”
Of all the folks on this ship, this one caught her interest. Her mind sized him up like a Klingon, a warrior… and to a lesser degree, as a woman. At first glance he didn’t seem threatening, but on closer look, there were muscles under his tunic that said he was either naturally built, or someone who was in the gym regular enough to maintain. He had only stood up, but his reflexes let her know he wouldn’t easily be caught off guard, and could probably handle himself if push came to shove. That was always good to know. If you knew who could take care of themselves, you knew who you could let some of your attention off of in a crisis.
The sizing up took less than a heartbeat. You could either do it or not, it wasn’t something that was easily explained or taught. She took another step towards his desk, her face settling into an approximation of a smile. “I am Ensign Triton, Security Chief… welcome to the Saracen, Sir.” She was still on guard, but at least she wasn’t in a threatening posture anymore.

CoSThe man behind the desk smiled, and it was a stark contrast to his earlier demeanor. The smiled exuded a genuine warmth and openness he hadn’t shown before. He extended his hand towards her and said “A pleasure, Chief. Thank you. I am Lieutenant Commander Royal Sinclair, ship’s Counselor.” His voice was deep but not rumbling, and it carried a very pronounced Scottish brogue. But even with that, he was easy to understand.
“Do you always make a point of greeting new staff with your hand on your phaser, or am I just that special?” he added with a wink and a slight chuckle and gestured to a chair for her to be seated.

Sha smiled and nodded in respect. “A pleasure, Sir.” She said as her hand extended to shake his. It was one of the few human nuances she had never truly mastered. Her grip was incredibly strong, for a woman. The initial squeeze was stiff, but then immediately became a weak grip before she broke the clasp a little too swiftly. “And no, Sir. It’s not common. But this space is a secured space. And as of last night, it was still on the list of spaces that was to remain secure.” She took a step back to give him space and nodded once more. “Obviously awaiting your arrival.”
A thought came to her mind and she smiled. “I suppose it’s too late to claim it was a military welcome?” The small joke made her lips curl up slightly. With the Klingon features it was hard to discern, without the context, if the look was meant to be playful or menacing. “I will remember to check my rosters ‘before’ making rounds next time, Sir.”
As the security officer smiled, a thought occurred to her. This was the new counsellor. A shudder went thru her and she took a step back. “Well, Sir. Once more, I wish you well. I shall leave you to get settled in. I apologize for the barge in.” She took another step towards the door. This was the person who delved into your mind.. your secrets… your habits. She wasn’t sure she was ready for that, yet.
