“Drop out of Warp” Dante said, sitting back in his chair with his fingers steeped in a pyramid and his ankle resting on his opposite knee. “Bring us to Quarter Impulse and request docking clearance with the Starbase, it’s time for some downtime” he smiled, looking at his acting XO, Commander Aullar in the chair next to him. “I bet your glad to see that?” he asked her. Aullar had been trapped in 2025, previously having been a dedicated, if fiery, Executive Officer and Lt Governer on OEDV with a promising career ahead of her. She still did of course, if she chose to keep the shirt.

Vi had endured more than enough downtime for her liking already. The Starbase itself, however, was quite the sight. “Movies never did them justice,” she said, not bothering to unglue her eyes from the screen. Her pulse thrummed to be amongst its floors. It had been longer than her years stranded. OED V hadn’t been a ship.

It seemed likely that Starfleet would recall her, assignment pending extensive psychiatric evaluation. Vi ran her tongue over her teeth. She had no intention of being grounded long. Before the paperwork had a chance to begin, she’d need to speak to her sister.

Now that their mission was over and the Saracen had been ‘retrieved’ it was time to dock, replace the engines which had run non-stop for far too much time, repair the hole in the ship properly and have the Star Bases personnel do what they did best and put the Saracen back together and send her out for more. In the mean time, he had crew evaluations to complete, crew rotation to authorize, repairs to haggle about for priority, and a new XO to formally assign to the ship. While he intended on his crew taking some much needed rest, he doubted he would have much himself for the weeks it took to replace most of the engine components. They were, however, close enough to several holiday options for him and Natasha to take some much needed vacation together, however short, after the shock of learning of her miscarriage and the joy of their re-engagement.

“Starbase 257 confirms docking clearance Captain” their Helm officer stated and Dante simply nodded at the man to proceed. “Shore Leave is granted to all crew” he said to those on the Bridge, “Aside from skeleton crew assigned to essential duties until the Starbase can assign cover. Enjoy your down time people.”

Sha was sitting at the security station as the Captain announced shore leave. With no one to see on the planet, and no person she was involved with that she’d leave the ship with, Sha had adjusted the schedule to allow the other security personnel to have as much leave as possible. She would remain on board and take her turn at both security and bridge duty.

Between time travel, twice having reconstructive surgery on her head, and the other unexpected things that happened this tour, she was just as happy to remain behind and relax that way. “I hope you will take some of that advice, Captain,” she smiled as the CO gave the order.

“I intend to make full use of all the available down time” he smiled, “Getting off the ship and taking in something different is going to be good to recharge the batteries, and I expect everyone to do the same” he smirked, looking at her for a moment longer than necessary and then around the rest of the crew on the Bridge. “I’m not going to force anyone to take a break” he said casually, and then much quieter but still loud enough to be heard as he returned to his seat, “unless I have to.”
