Dante moved through the large corridors of the star base with almost complete anonymity. Being in civilian clothes, the crew of the station couldn’t tell that he was a Captain, and he might well have just been a passing trader as a Starship Captain, and that suited him just fine over the last few days. While the Saracen underwent repairs, it let him catch up on a few things of a more admin nature around his senior staff and this one was overdue by all means. While his ship was in dock, his crew had all been assigned quarters on the station if they wished to make use of them while the work crews made noise and crowded the halls of the Pendragon Class vessel, and now Dante paused outside one particular door and pressed the chime. Placing his hands casually in the pockets of his dark chocolate brown jacket, he waited to see if Rah-Triton was going to answer.

Being sent to the station was tantamount to exile as far as the half Klingon was concerned. How could the Captain …
Sha sighed and moved about the nearly empty, though still opulent, quarters. As a senior officer, at least in position if not rank, Sha had warranted being given a private room. She had barely slept that first night. It was a strange place, strange sounds, and she would have rather slept sitting up on the bridge, or in her room overhearing the noise of the retrofit, than be here. But the Captain had ordered.
She had planned to head for the ship once or twice while they were there. She ‘was’ the head of security. It wouldn’t be completely unheard of, or out of sorts, to check up on the ship. But instead, she had shown up the second night, and decided to relieve the NE on duty and take the rotation herself. Now, two nights later, she was planning on doing the same thing. Depending who was on bridge duty, perhaps she would relieve them this time. Figuring it was another of the security officers checking in either coming off duty or checking the roster rotation, she didn’t think twice when someone was at her door.
Opening the door, a very surprised Klingon featured face looked at the Captain. “Captain!? I … forgive me, is everything all right?” The surprise in her voice was as plain as the look on her face. “I… ummm… come in…” she finally gathered herself enough to step aside to let the Captain enter if he wanted.

CoS“Thank you Sha” he said with a grin, and stepped inside her quarters and looked around. “Not bad, they seem to be treating you well” he observed and then moved further in and turned around to face her. “Everything is fine” he said to his CoS, “I trust that you haven’t been planning any more excursions to the Saracen while you are on leave? Even though you ARE in uniform?” He leaned on the edge of the dining table and folded his arms while he grinned at her. “You know I want everyone to get the ship out of their minds as much as they can, the last mission was tough. I want everyone to remember and experience why we need to fight so hard to keep the Federation in existence as we know it, and that means you too.”

Sha respected her Captain above anyone else currently in her life. She knew she couldn’t lie, despite the desire to. “The accommodations are fine, Sir. Thank you.” And as the question of her ‘antics’ came up, she sighed and leaned against the wall by the door. “Sir, with all due respect. Yes, the last mission brought us all to the brink of extinction. But while many will find the group dynamic, and the holo suites and freedom a reminder of life, I prefer the ship atmosphere.”
“Most of us do after a time” he replied easily, “That’s why we are out there in the first place Ensign.”
Realizing the Captain may not understand, Sha shook her head. “Captain, we are in Star Fleet to protect life, our own and others. That ship ‘is’ a reminder to me of what we are living for. I stand watch not to hide from what occurred, but to be reminded of it.” She used her torso to push away from the wall and walked over to stand closer, this time setting her bottom on the back of the couch a few feet from where the CO leaned on the table. “When a child survives being sick, the mother sends them out to play with friends, to remember what fresh air smells like. That ship is as much a child as any crew you have. She went thru just as much as we did, as is evident by the work being done to her as we speak.” Her hand waved in the general direction of the refit harness the ship was currently suspended in. “While it’s your job to see to the health and safety of the crew, as your Chief of Security, it’s ‘my’ job to see to your health and safety. Seeing to the refit and the upgrades and the intergrity of the ship is my way of doing that. I need to know, at my core,” she clenched one fist to her stomach, “that this ship is in the best shape it can be in before I allow you to fly it back into darkness and lay your head down to sleep.”
She crossed her arms and a slight smile touched the edges of her face. A Klingon’s grin was anything but fuzzy, but with her softened half breed features, it wasn’t as menacing as most. “So… would you rather I nod and say ‘Yes Sir… I will stay away’ and do it behind your back? Or would you rather roll your eyes, shake your head and be satisfied with merely demanding I only do it every other night?” She stared at her superior officer and for a brief moment wished there was something more between them that what was there. She was often drawn to him but since he had never shown even the slightest hint of interest, she had settled within herself that protecting him would have to suffice.

“That’s all well and good” he told her, but he was smiling and not appearing at all put out by her commitment to the ship, “But you aren’t a one woman Security force, you can’t do it alone and no matter how much you desire to be on the ship at your post, you need a break. Whether you want it or not.”
His smile turned into a grin and he folded his own arms, mimicking her pose. “Your role is to lead” he told her, “and while dedication is a big part of leading by example, so is ensuring you Can lead by example and don’t lose sight of the details. If you over work, your going to get blind to those small details. Like it or not, Ensign” he said, his grin now being matched by a dangerous humor in his eyes, “my role is to ensure I have the right people capable of doing their jobs in the right places. So, I suggest perhaps scheduling crew rotation check-ins, evaluations and phaser assessment training every three days. The new crew can carry out the Duty Roster duties and get acquainted with the ship while you” he said, still with his arms crossed, “enjoy your break, otherwise there might be a computer glitch with your access codes for a few days. I’m sure I could get Starbase Engineering to work on it after their repairs, say maybe scheduled for next week or so?”
