OOC: Apologies fixed the issue where my tag attached itself to yours.
‘Urgh small talk’ Ella thought groaning inwardly, this wasn’t going to be the quick ‘in and out’ she hoped it was going to be. “I recall a Hornsby sir but he wasn’t my tutor, I was assigned a female tutor. ” She explained truly. Ella had assumed it was to do with the fact she was Elasian and wouldn’t be able to accidentally contaminate her tutor, not that she’d ever do so intentionally and so far she had zero accidents.“I didn’t believe my assignment to the Saracen was anything to do with my abilities or overall performance, I just did what I was told to do. I was lucky to have been good at what I was doing and if I wasn’t I endeavored to be better than everyone else, its how I had to grow up. ‘Be the best or be nothing’.” She explained rather ruthlessly her Elasian lack of social skills surfacing however the comment true. As an Elasian female, she had to prove herself and as the chieftain’s daughter, she had to be the best at doing it.
~ Ens. Ella LokaaRaising an eyebrow slightly, it was impossible to tell what Dante thought of her comments but he made his way to his own seat and sat down, placing her file to the side. The PaDD clearly held her Personnel file picture, revealing that he had been reading her file.
Ella’s eyes flicked momentarily to her PaDD a younger version of her face stared back at her and she knew for certain the Captain had been reading her file, she was thrown into a deep curiosity as to what people had said about her. She was thrown back into the room bu the Captain speaking again.
“It’s something you have to do where you come from,” Dante agreed, then looked at her and smiled slightly. “But it means nothing here, there is no competition with anyone else in the crew to prove yourself. You’ve already done that. What we want to see now is you being the best at what you do. The Challenge you have now, is to be part of the Saracen’s crew. A valuable part, someone others can trust and reply on. Do you think you can handle that challenge?”
Captain Knight, CO
“Yes sir.” Was the simple response she gave him There really wasn’t any need to further go into the topic. Ella was prepared to do anything for this crew and her Captain. Though she had to admit she didn’t quite believe in what he had to say about competition, everyone and everything was a competition in some shape or form, it was in her blood.
~Ens. Ella Lokaa“Good, well in that case, welcome to the Saracen, Ensign Lokaa. I do believe you will do well here. Before we finish, is there anything you wish to ask or discuss?” Sitting back in his seat, Dante eyed her and waited for her answer, and took another long sip of his coffee, of course.
Captain Knight, CO
Feeling the anxiety fill her stomach she tried to sit taller and prouder before saying “If I may sir, I know I have just arrived however I have aspiration on becoming a Tactical Officer. From the Academy, it’s required to pick Security before going into that field and I am hoping onboard the Saracen I would be able to achieve that ambition. I’m willing to prove myself in any way sir.” There she said it, to the Captain none the less. She watched Captain Knight carefully waiting to see how he reacted to this young new Ensign ask for a position that would already require her to serve on the bridge in her first year.
~Ens. Ella Lokaa“Hmm,” Dante replied, and then watched her in silence for a moment as his fingers lightly tapped on the coffee cup in thought. “You may then have come to the right place if Tactical is the direction you want to explore. For a number of reasons but I have someone in mind that may have time to take you through a few training scenario’s with an eye to filling that position.”
He rubbed his jawline for a moment and looked at the desk in thought. Since being brought on board the ship the heavily muscled former Chief of Security of the Ogawa, who just happened to also be a former Chief Tactical Officer on the Saracen in an earlier time and a different Captain, had had very little to do aside from polish his torpedo’s and watch time go by. Now, he might have a job for a time.
“Lieutenant Vanhall has experience that will be useful to you, I’m going to assign him to you in a training capacity, outside of your duties in Security that is. Learn from him, but don’t be shy to give him your thoughts. Vanhall is an old school, up front Officer and the more you put in, the more you get out. I’ll let him evaluate you for a while, and we can see what happens from there, Ensign.”
Captain Knight, CO
With her risk paying off River couldn’t suppress her grin, “Th…Thankyous sir! I promise I won’t let you down!” Ella couldn’t believe her luck, so far the Saracen was proving to be the best thing to have happened to her to date and it only seemed to get better and better. If she closed her eyes she could imagine sitting at the ship’s tactical station overseeing a whole fleet, its formation, weapons… “Sorry sir,” She said apologizing “I just didn’t, couldn’t dream of this happening so soon.”
~Ens. Ella Lokaa
“Don’t apologize, a Tactical Officer knows what they want and makes it happen.” Dante grinned and then pushed himself to his feet. “Dismissed, Ensign, before I agree to another early request. Go and get some rest, you are going to need it.”
Captain Knight, CO
Standing with the Captain her smiled beaming she nodded “Yes sir, thank you for giving me the opportunity!” She reached out a hand she had learned it was both a greeting, a thank you and a goodbye and thought this was as good a time as any to do so.
“Bye sir, have a good day!” She said before turning after being dismissed and leaving behind her the Captain standing and in front of her a whole new world of possibilities.
