USS Saracen

StarBase 257: Knight and Boja

Posted by Captain Dante Knight (Commanding Officer) in StarBase 257: Knight and Boja
The small cafe/coffee shop on the star base was normally busy, but with the Saracen in dock for many repairs and crew rotation happening the small shop was strangely quiet at this time of day. That suited Dante just fine after how hectic their last mission was, and he intended on sitting down with his DH’s now that they had a moment free of the worry of being erased from time itself.

To that end he had sent Lieutenant Boja a brief and simple message. If she was free, would she mind meeting him for a coffee and light meal to go over the recent mission and upcoming crew rotation for her department?

Dressed in casual attire and without a hint of uniform to be seen, he adjusted his high collared dark chocolate brown jacket and tucked the light scarf out of the way, while he enjoyed his first cup of coffee in a few hours. Dante had chosen a small two seat table tucked out of the way of the main group of patrons, and with a view out of the nearby windows that showed the Saracen in dock if they took the time to look a little further around the side of the station from where they sat.

Relaxing in his seat, he alternated between his coffee, the window and quietly people watching the other tables, his thoughts calm, but in the back of his mind the knowledge that had his crew not succeeded in their recent mission, nothing would exist here the way it was supposed to be.

Captain Knight, CO

While much of the ship enjoyed downtime when at base it was always busier for the med team. There were shipments to deal with and crew transfers- not that that was different from other departments, but it did seem that when she added drills and further training, it got a bit nuts. There were only so many things they could do while on assignment, so doing so at base made the most sense. But it did mean trying to juggle appropriate downtime for everyone too.

Strangely enough, Knight’s suggestion was appealing and she had sent a reply agreeing. It was necessary and also relaxing, hopefully. He knew enough about her now that she didn’t need to go into the standard backstory conversation, but that didn’t mean he actually knew her. He had proven reasonable so far, and she appreciated that, so she had high hopes for this meeting. There was also the awkwardness of Doctor Daye’s physical he had interrupted and while she understood his reaction, she maintained her professional standard regardless if it was convenient for her commanding officer or not.

Stepping onto the busy base, she had a brief uneasy moment and pushed it past. It had been years since the attack on the outpost, but she had found herself still slightly uneasy on bases of any kind. It wasn’t rational and she could admit that, but she couldn’t help the feeling. To this day she had no memory of the details of what happened and he had never been found, so a tiny part of her was always on the lookout. Teller would tell her she was being unnecessarily paranoid, but some things you couldn’t just rationalize away.

Brushing a piece of lint off her black trousers, and smoothing her purple floral tunic and eyed herself in a shop window and decided she looked presentable and hopefully not too tired. She was pretty sure she had managed five hours last night so while it wasn’t great, it also wasn’t terrible.

A couple minutes later, she found the place he had suggested and saw him waiting there. “Captain,” she greeted. “I hope I’m not too late and you weren’t waiting very long. I swear every time we come into base it’s like Sickbay suddenly implodes and forgets how to function.”
